No, I don't think so. It's at the Blists Hill museum site which is a 'working' Victorian site: foundry, pub, candlemaker, printer, pork pie shop :o , fairground, sweetie shop :o , etc, etc. Very, very worth a visit. Do go. The foundry is good - all that molten metal. It makes it so obvious that people's calorie output used to be very, very much higher than people's today. Such a sobering thought.

Once I worked on the excavation of some of the early blast furnaces there - oh, that was many moons ago.

Just remembered that I saw a working replica of Stevenson's Rocket in Manchester once (early 80s perhaps) so that must be around somewhere. Chuff, chuff!

Very much off topic...

I think Rocket is in the National Railway Museum at York now, along with Mallard (love those A4s!!!) and some other stuff! I think Locomotion is at Darlington (the original methinks... ) :chin:

That sounds like a great place to visit - must google we are over that way West for new year, we could break our journey if they're open :chin: I've just checked and methinks it's a bit far north, but it's on the To Do list now :D Thanks :D

More off-topic iron

Mallard is terrific. Do you know where Hope is? The Boy mentioned it this morning.

Thanks for your patience, all you other LWL! :D

There's a Steam Threshers Reunion about 15 miles from here every summer. It's a big event. People love that antique farming stuff too.

Jenfrus? Tell me what all you did for pec's yesterday.

6 sets of 5 30 degree incline bench presses. 12.5kg dumbbells.

Hope hope hope... :chin: Place called Hope in the Peak District...?

sportmom 12-05-2006 09:03 AM

Oh no, I need my metric converter!! Is that about, say 8 pounds? And 30 degree means you were lying flat and instead of lifting overhead you put them out at a 30 degree angle toward the wall in front of you? Or was your whole body at a 30 deg incline? Sorry!

2frustrated 12-05-2006 09:17 AM

about 25lbs - 2.2lbs to a kilo

I was lying on a bench with my body raised up at about 30degrees (the bench does this... not like holding half a sit-up ;) ), still lifting dumbbells straight up to the ceiling.

The exact weight won't apply to everyone, but the program I'm following suggests heavy weights that you can just about perform 5 reps with. If you can do 6 sets of that weight, then next time increase the weight.

FYI - here's the article http://www.johnberardi.com/articles/women/lean_2.htm

I do this at lunch with about 10 mins HIIT and 10/15 mins hardcore stretching. Then martial arts as usual, it seems to be fitting in quite well and I'm not too tired for other activities!

srmb60 12-05-2006 09:22 AM

Ouch! That's darned heavy! let me see .... 27.5 lbs. Yee ouch!

I think I'll add a bench to my Christmas list.

2frustrated 12-05-2006 09:25 AM

Yes it's Frus's super-fast-but-darned-heavy program! It's great since I do 2 exercises a day which takes about 10-15 mins, it seems to be working my muscles well, but I shall give it this week and next to see a proper verdict! I seem to be increasing the weight well though, this lunchtime I added an extra 5lbs to my squats. And the lovely instructor helped me out and told me I had "a good weight there" and he said that I have GOOD FORM :D :D :D :D I like weightlifting compliments :D Some days I feel like a fraud since I've never had a PT session or been shown properly how to squat - I just read Krista. :D

Oh, I can see we need to come back to the UK for steam related stuff. I see a much better chance of getting to Quebec!

Did some cardio at the gym last night, but felt out-of-sorts and didn't do any weights. Today we're off to Anchorage and gym time depends on when we get back.

SB - we have a little outside mouse who has moved into the furnace room here at the library. He (she?) has been seen in our workroom and the janitor has located the gap where he can go back and forth (at least one of them!) There is nothing to eat in the furnace room, though it's nice and warm. There are crumbs of food in the work room/kitchen area, and actually some food gets left on desks/table. We are now running a "trap line" to catch the little devil(s).

Looked over my notebook and found that in December 2004, I weighed 180 pounds, less than today, so I need to kick this up a notch.

I am doing much better with the carbs, just have to hang in for a couple of days and notice an improvement. I did have some very nice homemake forcaccia on Sunday but way less than before and I concentrated on the seafood.

Needing to get the LBWO done, though may have to add it onto to tomorrow, and yoga.

Shopping online is going well, getting my hiding places cleared out at home Told DH I was buying his mother a new coat, HATE the black thing she drags around in, it weighs about 25 pounds and she looks like she is in from a freighter, no offense to those who work on boats, but this woman needs to pull herself together and end the pity party. anyway, hoping it arrives in time for me to get some wool to knit a scarf to compliment it. Bought lightweight down with some fit to it.

NELIE - WOW - Just saw your picture, I love it, you look so great and happy of course.

Catching up later on.

Ouch. It smarts to walk a bit! But I love it! Wouldn't change it for the world :D Yesterday did super heavy squats and calf raises and then kickboxing too. :faint: Today I did pull-ups and dips and bumped into the nice instructor man and he asked if I was doing ok... I told him my legs were burning nicely from the inside and he asked why... Well duh, didn't you see me squat all that heavy weight yesterday???  I think I accidentally did an extra set too  But it's all good. Plus, heaviest I've squatted yet, so a PB in the gym yesterday. Also a PB in the gym today - assisted pull-ups and dips with lightest ever assistance. :D

Tomorrow I've got a 3 hour training session. 1 hour private lesson, 1 hour advanced and 1 hour ladies class... I like the fact that the training kinda tapers off. It's like a gradual cool down. Yes the ladies class is the easiest  But it's because the ladies don't try hard enough.

srmb60 12-06-2006 09:11 AM

I got my lesson about last Christmas when I went to get dressed for a dinner last evening. No black velvet top for me! I could have worn it if I'd planned on standing up straight all night!

It's legs day ... it's legs day ... hmmmmm ... Everybody sing! I love legs day!

2frustrated 12-06-2006 10:12 AM

"I love legs day! I really DO!" :dancer:

sportmom 12-06-2006 01:57 PM

It's everything day here today - and I better get to it. "Time's a wastin'..." for you Cash fans out there. My shoulders are begging me to get busy, you know on the outside of your upper arm right where that muscle tapers to a "V". That's the spot. The shot spot, SusanB, you know what I'm talking about! Lots of good dvd's from the library were picked up last nite so I'm loaded for hours of cardio & working out!

And yoohoo, Nelie, what's up? Married life is keeping you away from us too much!!
