There's one in our gym.... :chin: I saw one person on it ONCE. It costs £5 for 20 minutes... Personally I think it's all a load of hokum, but I'm intrigued, just not intrigued enough to spend a fiver stretching on it for 20 minutes and looking like a pratt!
I think kylie started a thread about it in the exercise forum and asked if there were any studies that weren't done by the manufacturers... I think one replied, but they sounded more like they were marketing the thing than your average gym-goer. http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=76282 |
Thanks, 2F. I see I contributed to that thread! I see what you mean about the research background. There are two at my gymn and they're free. I'm not really attracted at all! I think I would end up feeling like this :dizzy: and that's not the plan!
BTW, where is Kylie? I miss her. |
Kylie has moved out of her place and is staying with a friend and doesn't have internet access at home, and has a different job so she can't really post at work too much - but she does lurk!
If your vibroplates are free you must try them  For the good of the group!!! I have been to gym and done plyometrics today WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE JUMPING!!!!! And I did some hamstring curls and 10 minutes on the recumbant bike which nearly killed me - I worked up a slight glow but the breathing wasn't great! |
MEL - I may have to search out the kettlebells, the whole Turkish Get Ups sounds like a blast.
SUSAN B - Here's to where you sit, if you can. RABBIT - Sending some strength to get through all that is being thrown at you. Keep strong. I was at work last night until midnight, on my feet for 3 hours of it, so today, my knees and lower back are sore, popped on Tylenol for relief, I take so few I think they are expired but doing the trip. also pumping the water. and since I got to bed at 1 am and DH's alarm never went off, and I promised to make pasta sauce for DD's school, I am doing amazingly well today. More or less functioning and getting ready for a series of meetings this afternoon, hope I stay awake. SILVER - Lower Limb, sounds like something for the arborists. have fun. 2FRU - worried about the not great breathing, take a deep breath please. Off to grab some lunch, feeling like some tuna, which I can get at the local whole foods, or else something sensible. I have to counteract the four cookies left over from last night that I ate this morning, now what was the point of that??????????? |
Hellooooooo???? Anyone home todaaaaay????
Our brides must be immersed in name changes, everyone else hard at work at the gym maybe????? Come out come out whereEVER you are!! |
Hi Fran ... I'm here ... over here, in the corner  Glad you're here, too!
Although I haven't been posting, I've been lifting and in the last several weeks, I've had more than my fair share of, ahem, interesting hotel fitness facilities. Who designs these things? At one, I found two perfectly lovely treadmills but, in the corner, four -- count 'em, four -- 20-pound dumbbells. No fivers. No eights. No tens. But four 20s. Now, why would they do that? At another one, I found two universal-type machines that so badly needed a basic lube job they were almost unusable. And even if they pulleys had been pullable, there was really no place to stand, and the seats didn't adjust properly. I suppose I should be grateful to find anything, but I'm not. :tantrum: And given the traffic through these spaces, I doubt I'm the only one. I'd guess that all of them could be tripled in size, to good effect. However, to every cloud there is that proverbial silver lining. Since I couldn't find any weights, I was left to my devices, which included my resistance bands and my own body weight. Fortunately, a couple of weeks ago, Meg had mentioned a new issue of Muscle and Fitness for Her and I found it before I started my various road trips. There were some nifty total-body workouts therein, and some great exercises just using one's own body weight. Very good for hotel rooms. I now have at least two new goals. The first is to be able to do more than five () pushups. Criminey ... I have absolutely no upper body strength. The second is to increase my core strength. The Muscle and Fitness mag had an exercise that I see all the time but don't know if it has a name: laying on your back, you bicycle with your legs and as you bring each knee up, you reach across and tap it with the opposite elbow. Whatever that's called ... it's really hard for me to do. So, my first goal is 20. Belated congratulations to both the new Mrs.'s. May your lives be filled with happiness. Susan, have you heard any news after your interview? I'm sorry if I missed an earlier post, but inquiring minds want to know :chin: Silver, Mel and Susan B, how nice to see you again. And Rabbit, sweetie, fie on the full catastrophe! You've been through worse and triumphed, and you will do so again! To everyone else, greetings. Be careful out there; the holiday madness seems to be in full swing already. And now the weatherman is predicting the first major storm of the season. St. Louis is under seige even as I type and in my neck of the woods, it's supposed to hit just when I'd planned to go to the gym in the morning. It may be time to haul out a video. |
I was at work today and I was being a real nurse so I didn't get to keep a 3fc screen up all day as I do when I desk clerk.
I'm probably going to be driving to work in slop in the morning. It's sopping wet here and the temperature is dropping madly! |
I'm home, I'm mired in budget discussions for work, Christmas prep at home and general demobbing from vacation! Eek! In fact I'm overdue to leave work now, run home eat, change, and be back for a meeting in 90 minutes. again. Thankfully dinner is stuffed peppers: orange ones, stuffed with brown rice/soy crumbles/onions, topped with low cal bottled sauce. All made, just need baking. Yum!! Catch you more later....

Hi LWL,
Thanks for all the good vibes coming my way, I feel it is working! I am very excited this morning, because I find myself in the middle of arranging the financials to BUY MY HOUSE!!! It has been so far away I can harly imagine THIS will be MINE!!! Of course the kids find this the most normal thing in the world, and my sisters are absolutely confident that I will pull this off, but as the so-called heroine of this story, I am still in shock at the thought. Luckily it is only a matter of financial optimization. XH was the main blocking point, and I have sent of a signed divorce settlement, in quadruplicate, so I guess he cannot back out of it anymore. The house should be mine at or before january 1, 2007. I am so excited I almost burst. Robin, I love your motto about the Buddha...very, very true. Pat, SusanB, fran, silver, mel & Frus... Good to see you all around. have a great day all, rabbit |
:hyper: :dancer: HOORAY!!!!!! Rabbit that IS exciting! :hyper: WOOOOOOOOOOOO! :woo: I'm so happy for you!
I'm ok, got beat up AGAIN last night  But I love it! My ribs are getting better after a small setback yesterday of being PULLED!!!! I'm sure Lee just tried to stretch me rather than hit me! I'm getting good at brown belt stuff! WOOOO! :hyper: I want to do it before Christmas... :chin: We'll see! |
Congratulations, Rabbit- there is light at the end of the tunnel! I have no doubt either that you'll pull this off
Pat-Welcome back! Buried in snow yet? I need to bump up the minicam thread. Hi Robin- Pushups are a great goal and measure of total strength. I actually love to do them...because I can! :D I have a 63 yr old female client who came to me terribly deconditioned 2 years ago and now she can do 15 full pushups and 3 pullups. You should see the huge smile on her face when she does them. But...she wan't always smiling through the process :p Fran- Sounds like your BFL challenge is going great! I read your mirror moment. Beware of complacency! :bravo: Back and cardio for me today. Mel |
Hi all :)
I tried to wake up early this morning to exercise but it didn't work. I plan to make some time after work. I've been feeling fat lately and TOM is coming so I am up a few pounds. After the honeymoon, I was scared to try on my size 20 pants. So this morning, I had no choice and they fit fine. I'm not sure what I was concerned about. This weekend, we are going kitty hunting. I called our local Petsmart and they are having an adoption event with cats tomorrow. So we plan to swing by there and then if there isn't a cat that is calling our name, then we plan to go to the humane society. There are already a few cats there that I think I may like. If that doesn't work, then the humane society has cats in foster care that we are thinking about. I asked DH last night if he was sure and he said that "there is a cat out there that needs us and I think we need them too". I am so excited. I've really missed having a pet. Anyway, I hope everyone has a nice weekend. I'll report in on the kitty status. |
I hope you find a pretty kitty - WE WANT PICS :D :hyper: I'm so excited for you!

Hi guys - doing a drive by post between calls at work. Seems I've lost a whole month without even realizing it....
So, it seems like I'd better rein it all in now for fear of things getting out of hand orver the holidays (as they sort of did over T-Day!). Work is not any better, but at least I'm down to 9 hours a day, but they are exhausting ones and leave me with little energy... I'm going to get back into my cardio this weekend and hit it hard next week - every morning! I need to get back into my routine! I'll do some catch-up reading and post more when I get a chance. I see there is a new BFL thread - my favorite subject! Cindy |
Here's a late CONGRATULATIONS to you Mrs. Nelie! :) Hope you're finding married life to your liking. And yay on getting a kitty! We have two siamese looking (and acting!) that we adopted from the local animal shelter. They are so much fun. I was staying with a niece on our trip and she and her DH have a 4 month old kitten. He's better entertainment than TV.
Mel - 6-8" snow overnight in fact! The plower made one sweep up the sidewalk into the library, and plowed 1/3 of the parking lot. I know he'll be back to do the rest, just too much to clean up around the city. We are expecting less than usual number of patrons today, though schools are open so we'll have our regular middle-school kids this afternoon. My stressful week is at an end. YAY! I have the church bazaar tomorrow, but I have all my stuff done and priced. Just need to deliver it. And we have about 1/2 of our shopping done. It needs to be mailed to the east coast and I'd rather not pay Express Mail rates! Now if I just knew what to get DH.... |
