Morning every one! After I do a kitchen assessment, I'm going to buy food. I've always thought I ate sorta BFL style but I'm beginning to see that ... hmmm ... I'm probably more off the beaten track than I think.
I'm glad this thread is here. It's got me refocusing.

Su-Bee? You're still using fitday? I was wondering if I could skip it for a few days and see how I did. Another hard habit to break.

What do you all think about starting a BFL thread for December?

I'll check with Mel ... I'm not sure if 3FC would want it here or in the general diets thread er whaaat ...

Mel 11-26-2006 01:36 PM

Start it here Susan....This forum started out as a BFL forum in the first place!

Oh thank you so much I was just thinking of pm'ing you. Thanks Mel!

OK everyone ... get thinking about what BFL means to you.

Yes, I'm still using FitDay. The calorie counts terrify me, as well as the fewer calories burned now that I am spending more of my workout time on weights & less on cardio. But I am TRYING to switch to the mindset of just using it to weight-track and to be sure I meet my protein goals each day.

sigh. i feel fat.

I'm chiming in a little late here, but I like to do HIIT on the elliptical (given the state of my knees :) ). What I've found useful lately is podcasts done for the Couch to 5K running program. These were done by an individual doing the program (and who obviously had a lot of time on his hands! :) ) and he tells you when to speed up, slow down, etc. They are set to music, and are all around 30 minutes long. I posted a link awhile back, and don't have it with me now, but you might be able to google it. They certainly make cardio more enjoyable - and challenging - for me.

Today will be my 4th HIIT session. I've done them all so far on the treadmill b/c I find the control better - with elliptical and such I find that if I turn up the level, I slow down the RPMs to compensate even if I don't realize I'm doing so. With treadmill, I CAN'T do that - it's either do what the machine is set to, or fly off the end!

So far I've experimented - I did one session race-walking varying both speed and incline, one race-walk varying incline only & maintaining 4.5 mph, and one running on 0 incline but varying speed from 6.0 to 7.2. I was thinking today maybe I would try a run but varying both speed and incline.

They are hard workouts, but I am still having a very hard time psychologically with doing cardio for only 20 minutes. It comes from years doing endurance running, where the goal was to go farther / longer, even if I had to slow down to get it done. But. . .I am sticking with it. :)

Hmmm, I get what you mean about the elliptical. I just increase the RPMs at the same level, rather than play with the level. If that gets too easy, I'll go up another level or two. But I make myself keep the RPMs numbers in a small range. The treadmill does "make" you go the speed, but it hurts my knees too much to do it all the time. And to me the best part of HIIT is getting cardio over with sooner.

Increasing intensity was about the only direction I had to go. I was up to walking an hour a day (more if it was pleasant out or I had time) I could hardly keep walking more and more and more.
Soon I would have had to take a taxi home for my feedings :joker: Jogging for a few stints is certainly more practical. I'm hoping it's more alluring to new folks as well.
