Upright Rows

I read in the sticky "The 10 Most Ineffective Excercies" that upright rows are included. I was wondering why?

I do upright rows once a week, I use them as one of my shoulder exercises. I use 15lb dumbbells with my arms a little less than shoulder width apart lift up until the weights are under shoulder level/armpit and hold for 5 secs. This targets my rear shoulder muscles/ upper back and my traps.

Thanks!

Upright rows are a very effective exercise, but are also notorious for injuring rotator cuffs. There are so may safer shoulder exercises that target the same muscles that unless you can't do overheads (herniated discs in neck vertebrae) I'd avoid them.

I can do overhead exercises. Currently for shoulders and back I do the following exercises"
Back - Lat pulldown, Reverse Lats, One Arm Rows
Shoulders - Uprights Row, Front Raise, Lateral Raise, Shoulder Press.

btw... I only have dumbbells to work with

any suggestions?

How do you do lat pull downs with dumbbells?

RockerGirl 10-09-2006 12:25 PM

Sorry! I have 6 machines at my gym. Lat pulldown, chest press, leg press, leg curl, leg exten, shoulder press.

I workout at a small gym at my job... It's free :)

:lol3: I thought you were being REALLY creative!

I'd add a lower back exercise like dumbbell deadlifts or good mornings for your back, and maybe a bent over rear delt raise for your rear delts to complete your shoulder workout.

I am creative, but not that creative. I have been known to wrap my exercise band tube around DB's to add more weight.

Other things I've created for my home gym
$3 toy basketball cut open add sand tape shut = medicine ball
PVC pipe with ends filled with sand and metal pieces = body bar

Please explain good mornings with DB's when you have a moment

Thanks

Here's a link to Good Mornings http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/displa...le.php?aid=118 and one for dumbbell (or barbell) deadlifts http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/...BDeadlift.html
