Nelie  calm down...maybe you need to recheck with your doc about the new bc pills. This line made me laugh:

I used to love The Firm workouts when I was young

I don't really think of you as aged and infirm at this point! Ahem...you are one of the young'uns here!

Fru- Have a grand time in Amsterdamdamdam!

Hi SB- Nice to see you back again :)

Sarynit- I like the variation in that workout scheme. I'm printing a copy for my files. Thanks!

Hi Cindy!

Did a back workout and 50 minutes of ADD cardio: 11 minutes in a stationery bike, then the rest jogging on a treadmill. I thought I was running, but one of the other trainers was razzing me about needing a calendar rather than a watch at my pace :dizzy: Phooey on him!

What is ADD cardio?

4rabbit 10-12-2006 02:04 PM

hi LWL,

Not much of a workout today. I managed to do half a "yoga for dummies" DVD, then I had to drive DD to gymnastics. I sat too long at the computer yesterday & today so my back is aching. The yoga did help though.
Tomorrow I'm going to see my financial advisor on fiancing options for the house. I still can hardly take in that I am actually going to buy it! I am still on cloud nine (and enjoying it!) about that.

I met a mutual friend of XH and myself in the canteen at work todday. He was acting a bit coolly and when i asked if he had seen XH since monday he said yes, and made a remark to indicate that XH told him that I ripped him off with the settlement. So much for that friend. I'm glad in a way, because that indicates to me that I did not settle too cheaply!

I think I'll spend part of the settlement money on the backlog of work in the garden. it seems heavenly to think that big strong men will be doing a lot of very heavy work there, and not myself (I'm 1.57 m, which is about 5 foot 3 inches I believe.

fru, kylie - have a great time in amsterdam! The weatherforecast is good for next sunday !

Pat - unseasonably warm ? It was 20 C here today!!

nelei - I hope you are feeling better. Maybe treat yourself to an afternoon of non-wedding related thoughts & relaxation?

SusanB, Silverbirch - i'm glad you are back!

have a great day all,
rabbit

WaterRat 10-12-2006 02:34 PM

Goodness, Rabbit! That's a good summer temperature for us! It's about 9 C here right now, and raining - blech! At least it's not snow, which we often have in October. It's only been below freezing a handful of times yet this year. All this is fine with me, as I don't like cold weather or winter snow! I know, I know, I live in the absolute wrong place! We are going to Costa Rica in mid-January, and I will be sooo ready for warmer weather - and daylight - by then.

ADD Cardio = Attendtion Deficit Disorder Cardio  or the inability to stick with one thing for more than 30 minutes or so without becoming bored to death!

Music helps, but sometimes I just give up and switch from elliptical to treadmill to bike to running and back again.

OK, I'm officially a knucklehead... I actually Googled ADD cardio thinking if was some new way of doing cardio like HIIT. All I found was about ADDing cardio to your workout.

Sarynit 10-12-2006 05:40 PM

Hi all! Just got back from the gym and taking it easy for a few before showering and heading out. A friend and I are going out to dinner and to see 12th Night, my favorite Shakespeare play. I've already pulled the menu from the restaurant, picked out my meal and plugged it into Fitday. Hopefully I can stick to it. My workout went pretty good - at least the weight training part. I just couldn't get going w/ my cardio. I did about 10 pathetic minutes and called it done. I'll try again tomorrow when hopefully I'll have a bit more energy.

Rockergirl/Mel - you cracked me up w/ the ADD cardio. Maybe I should have tried that today to jazz me up.

WaterRat - Alaska, eh? I long to explore Alaska - in the summer, that is. I'm so thin-blooded these days that anything below 75 is freezing!

4rabbit - I'm glad to hear you're feeling strong about things. I have a friend going through a similar situation but she too stood her ground. Now, if you could just send those strong guys down to do some of my yardwork....

nelie - what part of MD are you in? I grew up in Bowie and went to UMBC. An Inner Harbor honeymoon sounds nice. I hope you're feeling better. Good job w/ the Firm - I've heard good things about those videos.

cindy - good luck w/ your kitten. They seem to be masters of figuring out the worst place they can be at any time. I'm in Phoenix. Our honeymoon was 2 weeks in Hawaii. The first week we spend on Maui and the 2nd week we picked up a cruise that spent 2 days on each island. It was a great way to see each of the major islands without have to deal with airplanes and hotels and such. It was unbelievable. Even my husband loved it and he's not a beach guy at all.

Fru - You're right. Its amazing how big a difference what we eat has on how we feel. Have a great time!

silverbirch - hope your knee is feeling better

SusanB - I remember the first time I used the bands. I thought I was such a tough chick. I figured, with all my weight lifting, these woosy little bands won't do nothing for me.....boy, was I wrong! :stars:

Well. Time to get cleaned up. Everyone have a great evening!

srmb60 10-12-2006 07:48 PM

Thanks Sarynit ... I thought I'd wasted away in the five weeks since we've moved :) My butt is really quite tender tonight.

WaterRat 10-12-2006 09:06 PM

Sarynit - I feel the same about the desert - way too hot, except in the winter. We were in Utah/N Ariz last April and it was bordering on too hot for me! As for 12th Night, we saw it at the Shakespeare theatre in Stratford-on-Avon in May 2005. We were there and decided on the moment to try to get tickets, and lucked into excellent seats. Enjoyed it immensely.

Poor Susan, with a tender butt! You'll be firm again very soon!

We are honeymooning in Scotland in a cottage that looks like a signal box! It's got a Sauna and stuff! :D I think we will do some hiking/hill walking while we're there, oh and we're visiting Glasgow for a day on the Thursday I think. :)

I'm waiting for the shops to open :tantrum: I need to buy some plasters and a HUGE bottle of water and some new running tights for the weekend. :tantrum: Why can't they open at 6am??? My flight isn't till 3pm anyway, but I am awake and bored now! I'm all packed, so shopping is the only thing that will distract me!

susanje 10-13-2006 07:54 AM

Hi Everyone!

It's been TWO WEEKS since I've checked in and I am sorry to be so absent! I have been busy busy...but I'm back.

I slipped on my workouts last week because of being busy but am now back in the groove. I started Pilates yesterday on the equipment and am going to take a class once or twice a week that uses a rebounder to keep my joints from being pounded.

Doing Pilates on the equipment was A KILLER WORKOUT. I've been working out with weights again for a few months and still I ached all day yesterday.

I'm still trying to figure out how to balance weights/cardio/Pilates. I definitely need to become independently wealthy so my job can stop interfering with my exercise!

Glad to be back!
Susan

Mel - Time is relative! Last time I used "The Firm" religiously, I was 16 so I think I can say when I was young. Although yes I do realize I'm not really old, even if I feel like it some days.

Frus - Have fun! or as much fun as you can have running a half marathon. Scotland sounds lovely. I'm trying to figure a way to get DF over to the UK (and well myself) but there are so many other places to visit first. He says once he runs out of his Harrod's tea, we'll have to make a visit there. Oh and something funny that is wedding related and UK related. I rented this movie, I don't think it is a British film but it is based in England somewhere. It is about a woman who gets married but falls in love with her wedding florist. We watched it the other night, it was really funny. The name is "Imagine me and you". I think it is a good film to watch right before your wedding. I also am renting an american "real life" show which is called "Bridezillas". I think it is something fun to watch to see how crazy brides can get before their wedding.

Sarynit - I'm in Gaithersburg. I moved here last year from Colorado which is where I had been living for 3 years after my exodus from California.

Today, I feel as if I can get back on track. Yesterday, I felt horrid but I feel a lot better today.

sportmom 10-13-2006 02:14 PM

YIKES - it is CCCCOLD here today my friends!!!! Wowzers!

Delighting in the fact that after my ubwo this morning, my shoulders and tri's were literally radiating heat thru my shirt as I drove around in the car at lunch. That's good, right?! :dizzy: I've just never taken note of my body "putting out" heat! lol Lovin' it. I kept putting my hands on the fronts of my shoulders and arms to warm them up. I guess it could be that shoulders also control the steering wheel so they were warm from that. But great working out weather, so I'll take it!

sportmom 10-13-2006 02:17 PM

Oh hey, Nelie, did you know that Dr. Peeke (BFL-W) teaches at U of Md and has a private practice in Bethesda? Maybe for my goal I'll schedule a consult with her. I'm sure it ain't cheap and that she doesn't accept any insurance plans! Her website talks about a retreat you can go on with her each year for a few days of intense training and healthy eating. Sounds interesting.

4rabbit 10-14-2006 05:28 AM

Hi LWL,

4th day of a backache here. I am moving cautiously, because the big muscles in the lower back are sore,. I know ...I put in too much hours behind the screen wednesday, and now I am making up for it. Yesterday I did the yoga for dummies DVD, and this morning 10 mins treadmill and the excercise ball for Dummies DVDs. I actually kind of like these DVDs. The pace is quite slow, but he excercises are pictured clearly so I can see clearly what to do. I also tried a tai chi dvd yesterday, from a different brand, but the camerawork was lousy. They kept zooming in on one of the instructors, and switching between the instructor shown on the back and the instructor seen from the front. I am orientation challenged, so that immediately makes it impossible for me to figure out what I am supposed to do. Why not just keep the instructor in total view all the time, with the same camera standpoint, and an insert for the detail they want to show???

Anyway, the ball DVD was OK for my back. Now just to keep moving today. I feel like an 80 year old.

Susanje - Yeah, I also feel it's time to become independantly wealthy so I can fit in my workouts with my work. If you reached that, fill us in on the details, i think more of us would go fot that idea.

Have a great day all,
Rabbit

Happy Saturday everyone! It's a beautiful sunny day here in upstate NY, but it's about 40F out, so looks are deceiving! Thank goodness we didn't get any of that snow Buffalo got - those poor people. For those of you who aren't snow savvy, the main problem is that leaves are still on the trees - they are used to that much snow normally, but the weight of the snow that accumulated on the leaves, made for lots of downed trees, pulling down power lines and making a big mess!

I'm feeling chipper this morning after I talked myself into not skipping this am's cardio. I plan to do photos and bf% this coming week, for the first time in ages. It's a bit scary, but it's got to be done so I can measure my progress.

Looking for some new recipes to try this weekend - anyone got any suggestions?
Cindy

Hi all!

Well, I'm pretty new to lifting and don't completely know what I'm doing ....

right now my routine is

2x/week
15 min elliptical machine

followed by a 30-min full-body routine on the machines:

chest flies (she has me do 9 reps full, pulse for 10/x 3)
leg extensions
incline row
shoulder press
leg curls
cable stations for triceps & biceps
9 - 12 reps depending on the machine/exercise - I need to copy the reps & weights off her log next time
ab work - urgggggg
medicine ball toss

1x per week I do a 30 minute session on the eliptical machine & then work more with free weights, doing deadlifts, squats, curls, bent rows,
On the nutrition side, I am having a tough time getting it in line with where I feel it should be. I want my protein to be at about 180g and right now it's averaging 97g a day. Still, it's a huge improvement! Fat is higher than it should be at 32% of my daily intake, but again, better than it was starting in on this new plan. I've gone from having maybe 1 veggie serving a day to 3 - 5. I'm trying to eat mainly "clean" foods, but I'm not there yet.

My lower abs & overall upper body strength need lots of work ....

4rabbit 10-15-2006 03:40 AM

hi LWL,

happy sunday all, and wellcome to bunnybod!

autumnholiday has started here, so i'm at the beginning of a week filled with kids stuff. My back is still acting up, but improving. Today I did the fitnessball DVD again, 1 hour work out, not too intense, but worked wonders for the back. I am beginning to feel old. I get out of bed and since the weather is cooling down I am terribly stiff and really need to limber up myself in the ornings.

On the plus side, I bought a bag of oranges and find myself eating one every day. I had forgotten oranges actually are good to eat.

Have a great day all,
rabbit
