Time between?

My gym is crowded and had have seen people do two sets of reps on machines so they don't have to worry about getting back on it later. I tried it today and was not totally thrilled with it but wanted to ask how long should I sit between reps.

For example I was on the Leg Curl machine and did 12 reps of 50 waited for a couple of minutes and did another 12 at the same weight. Am I doing this correctly? What is the amount of time I should wait between reps?:?:

Hi Darlene - I think you're talking about time between sets, right? A set is one group of reps - so when you did 12 reps @ 50# on the leg curl machine, that was one set. Then you rested and did a second set.

For most people, resting for 30 and 60 seconds between sets is sufficient. If you're going really heavy on the weight, you might need a longer rest. :)

Wait a sec ... I must be confused. Sorry! if you mean time between reps rather than sets, then my answer is different. A good scheme for a rep would be two seconds up - one second pause - and two seconds down. Don't pause between reps - go right into the next one.

Sorry for the misunderstanding! :o
