Question about threaded barbells/dumbbells

  • Hi! I have a set of threaded dumbbells and a threaded barbell. I also got a curl bar (not threaded) in a bench set I bought. Anyway, I have no idea how I can quickly change weight plates on these things. I do not have enough money to invest in 3-4 more barbells. So, my questions are:
    1) Does anyone have any tips on quick changing threaded bars? I tried using the spring clip that came with the non threaded bar but it doesn't work.
    2) Can I use the curl bar instead of a barbell in order to be able to change the plates quickly?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  • I have no idea what you are talking about. Can you post pictures or find a link to some on the net?

  • Here's a link to a photo of a dumbbell. The barbell is the same, only it's a barbell.

  • Ah. now I know what you mean. They are a pain in the tush. I don't think there is any quick way to change them, sorry. For most exercises, just use the curl bar.

How about one standard barbell and some good spring collars? I don't think that would set you back more than $20-30. Otherwise, do as Mel said and use the curl bar.

I actually like the security of the threaded collars on the dumbells, but they are not necessary on the barbells.
