Bra: When working out?
This has probably already been questioned although I was unsuccessful in my search through past threads.
Any suggestions regarding the type of bra best for working out. Now that I'm actually breaking sweat for a good portion of my workout - LOL - I've been wondering about the chafing factor, etc. This sort of common sense eludes me:shrug: I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks! ps: not teeny, not huge :o |
I like the champion sports bras at Target. As far as I can tell, they are exactly the same as the champion bras sold at Sports Authority, Dick's, etc, but half the price. If you need larger sizes, try titleIXsport.com. I think there is a sticky on the "exercise forum" about bras.

I agree with Mel on going to Target or such. The important thing is to try them on and move in them. Jump up and down, wave your arms over your head, jog in place, do some walking lunges (if you have the room). don't just check for cup fit, but also ask yourself where the seams are hitting or if you can feel the clasp at your back. Trust me - if you can "feel" them in the dressing room they may chafe and become irritating during a workout or run. I agree with Mel on the Champion bras at Target. I also got a Hanes one for "high intesity" workouts at Target I like, too. For long runs I like Brooks (as I am large and saggy and this one keeps the girls" from aching). I'm going tosay the Champion and Hanes were in the 15-20 range and the Brooks in the 40. That is why I only have 1 of the Brooks, but it was well worth it at 16 and 18 miles ;)

I'm in the UK so brands and things are different. I have two. Both are Shock Absorber brand, one is a level 2 that I wear for weight training and light cardio (rower, bike, things where I'm not leaping about) the other is a level 4 that I use for running and other higher impact activites. I don't like to wear that all the time as my girls are kinda squished into it, it's a great fit it's just so strong that there is no movement at all.

Another thing to think about: I wear the "smash 'em uniboob" type sports bra with no seams. Depending on how big you are, you may prefer actual cups. Try a few different styles as Ellen suggested.

I am a Danskin girl :) I get them at Wal-Mart. The first one I had has a clasp at the back. It also has underwire and is good for higher impact activities, but the clasp does kind of bother me. The other two I have are the pull on kind. Kind of a pain to get on and off, but they seem to be really supportive, though they're supposed to be for lower impact activities. I do a lot of weight lifting and cardio such as elliptical, treadmill, but haven't worked up to running yet, so they work great for me. Also, the pull on kind is only about $9, I think. I'm a 34 D, and that is a hard size to find!

Thanks for the feeback everyone - much appreciated. I really didn't know what the correct avenue would be - for all I know, you may have responded with, "bra? no one wears a bra when lifting weights!" Such a beginner, on every level.
I'm going to check out the "smash 'em uniboob" - LOL! The no-seams element is important for my comfort. Jean |
Jean, I picked up mine at Target too, but its a big honkin, heavy duty, no movement type thing! Cotton, so it absorbs well, although it has seams and underwire. Ive had no chafing, and I like that Im not going to knock myself out when Im on the treadmill :D Its actually very comfortable.

I literally can't watch. I know you were just kidding, but I think you'll find that wearing a bra is MUCH more comfortable than the aforesaid technique!!! |
 that way she can keep her neck and lower face skin taught!! :lol3:

:lol3: OUCH!

I'm a fan of the Hanes from Target sportsbra. I currently have to wear two of them to get my wanted level of non-movement, but I'm a bouncer :o I've found that doubling up on bras that aren't quite perfect can help, but I do prefer the Hanes pullovers to anything else I've tried (for elliptical or otherwise)

OMG, OUCH! I could NEVER work out without a bra on. Yikes!

I'm in the strap em down uniboob crop top camp. Mine are fairly small, and with a bit of stiffness in the bra they can be squished to practically nothing, and then stay in place fairly well (other than the movement in the layer of fat they sit on :o )
I need a new sports bra though, as they've shrunk too much, and are not floating around a bit too freely inside a bra that used to hold them nicely. Not that there's much less to float, but I want to take care of what's left! |
