BFL question
I usually combine by upper body and cardio on the same day. Is this okay? Also, I occasionally substitute a cardio interval training session for a step class. And I'll also sub a Body Pump class for a weight day sometimes. Do you think this really affects my progress? I appreciate your thoughts! :D

If you read the book, Bill Phillips says to split the workouts--cardio one day, lifting the next. This allows you plenty of rest/recovery time. It also gives you something to do tomorrow! His idea is that you want to keep your workout to less than 46 minutes max. Also, if you really push the 10s, you get more out of a split workout schedule.

Most women who have done full challenges end up feeling that it wasn't enough cardio. I'd go ahead and do more on Upper body days, but not HIIT.
I really don't think that a BodyPump class can substitute for an upper or lower body workout in BFL. BodyPump uses lower weights and higher reps and is a full body workout. Yes, you can get a good workout, but it's not the same as lifting to fatigue. I'd mix up your cardio and don't worry about doing extra, but if you are doing BFL, stay with the weight workouts. Otherwise it's not BFL ;) Mel |
