BODYPUMP classes - Anyone else doing this?
I just started doing bodypump classes a week and a half ago. I feel like a real body builder :strong: now. LOL I had already been doing weight lifting but really enjoy this class.
If you've been doing it what is your experience with it? |
body pump
i used to go to body pump regularly (at the ymca) and i liked it a lot. i found that, for me, the instructor made a big difference-- they're the ones calling out moves and really keeping you on time, etc. i also found it to be consistantly challenging-- you always increse the weight when it 'gets too easy'. i enjoyed it, but started coming less regularly when our instructor changed--

I go at the Y too.
I've had 3 different instructors so far. I know what ya mean about that. They're coming out with a new version in a week or so too. |
Hi tropical
I have NO idea about the Bodypump class, I'm a gym rat myself :D... I just wanted to welcome you to LWL because we just LUVS NEWBIES  !! Don't by shy to join us on the weekly thread !! |
We have body pump classes at my gym and I love them. Due to my schedule and their times I don't get to attend them as often as I would like to though.
It's an awesome way to get a full body weight training workout in. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone wanting to add bulk, but for strengthing and toning purposes it's awesome! |
I've done them a couple of times with different instructors, and disliked them all. Guess that's why paint is made in so many colors  I find the low weights-high reps routines terrible for my joints. I'm very prone to tendonitis and overuse injuries, which BodyPump aggravates.. For me, BodyPump is one big "over-use, under-utilized" session.
But those classes sure are popular and crowded, so obviously there are a lot of folks who love it! Mel |
Thanks Ilene.
I'd like to be able to attend 3 times a week but I'm down to 1 time a week now. I know what you mean about the overuse injury. I have tenosynvitis (sp?) and it aggravates it. I still work through it knowing I'm getting a good work out. |
If it aggravates your tendonitis, IMO you really shouldn't just try to "work through it." It's not that great a workout. It's really a compromise between lifting and cardio, giving you some of the benefits of each, but not the benefits of either a great cardio workout or a great strength training workout. It does have the advantage that if you love classes, exercising with a group and music, it will get you there! But the tendonitis issue is a big one because it can force you to stop for several weeks if it gets bad enough. If you change you workout to slower, heavier and less reps. you'll have less problems with tendonitis and over-use injuries. Unfortunately, if you really love the BodyPump format, other than getting and iPod and some great music, I'm not sure what else to suggest.

It's from using the computer too much. lol Thankfully I got a steroid injection today. I've been working with a personal trainer 2 times a week and the bodypump class is just for fun.
My thumb/wrist continue to hurt and I still can't give up my computer. |
Ah...jobs are a :censored: ! Gladto hear it's not from the exercise, tho :)
