Stretch marks associated with lifting

Ok, so this morning I was getting dressed and I've noticed something I've seen many times, dark red stretch marks on my shoulders. I have stretch marks all over because of my weight but I haven't had new stretch marks in years or at least until I started lifting heavy. So somedays after an arm/shoulder workout, I see dark red stretch marks on my shoulders. Is there anything I can do about them? I know there are fading creams and such, I wasn't sure if they really worked or if they were really safe?

Anyone else have this problem?

Coincidentally we had another thread started regarding stretch marks at Buyer Beware today...

Personally, I have so many stretch marks (under my arms, on my boobs, thighs) that I probably wouldn't even notice any on my arms and shoulders!!! Incidentally, what kind of exercises are you doing for arms and shoulders? I've often gotten red marks on my shoulders whenever I've used a machine that requires shoulder pads (hack squat, standing calf press) but they go away after a few days.

Nelie -- I thought the same thing as Karen. :) I used to get all sorts of red streaks all over my shoulders from hack squats and the standing calf raise machine. They'd last 3 - 4 days and then fade. I don't get them at all any more, though -- perhaps my shoulders have petrified and turned to rock or something?

If they are brand new stretch marks that are still red and they bother you, talk to a dermatologist. I was told by mine that this is the ONLY time that they can be treated -- while they're new and red. And the only effective thing is prescription only.

HA! You know that would totally explain it, I might've got it from using the machines, I didn't even think of that. I'll see what happens with them.

I've gotten those marks on my shoulders too! But I had lifted quite heavy with the machines with the pads and my shoulders where tender too...
