Either way, tomatoes are a green food, so eat away!

I've been eating a lot of broccoli and raw spinach lately--a good thing! I used to be veggie phobic, but with the weather warming up, it's nice to eat huge salads.

Help

I still haven't gotten the BodyRX from the library so I cancelled my order.

I was going to order it off of Ebay but, as I wrote previously, hate to waste my money on something I won't do.

First of all I love cottage cheese (I think someone mentioned earlier in this thread about getting to eat that) and I love tomato's. I could eat both every day.

My question is on the weight lifting. Before I order this book could you give me some insight into what this diet requires? I don't want you to "give away" anything but just wondered:

1. Time per day required
2. Is it easy to learn
Just some basic advice so I can decide ....

Is the concept to eat more foods of one kind and less of others combined with weight lifting? Does it require joining a gym? Can I do it at home?

Okay, rambling now. :sorry:

YIPPEE

I finally got the book but by the looks of it, it will take 6 weeks of studying before I can start!!

Tracycatwoman 05-13-2003 08:03 PM

Actually, the book is a very quick read! You should have it finished in no time at all. The basics for cycle 1:

You have 6 meals.
1 g of protein per pound of body weight
30 g of fiber per day
UP TO 240 g of yellow carbs per day
Many, many fruits and vegetables are "green," meaning, you can eat as many as you want. Check out the list of yellow carbs, though.

You do not need to join a gym.

On the workouts, you need to lift heavy, but now that you have the book, it's better explained in there.

Good luck and have fun!

I did see skimming through that he says you can't get a good workout if you don't go to a gym and use the machines??????

I'm SO Excited!!

I'm still reading the book, but I can already tell that it has grabbed me more than BFL, at least for now :-) I have certainly been a reading fool this week! I just had to hop on and thank Robin for suggesting it to me. I can't wait to start!! It looks like there are a few of you that have started recently here, so hopefully I'll be able to trail along behind you guys gleaning your wisdom. Thanks again!

Luckyladybug, I did my BRX workouts at home, I had great success and adapted many of the exercises to fit what I wanted to do.

I personally think that Dr. C askes that people work out at a gym because many of the Brxers who begin this are novice exercisers and machines are safer than dumbells. Since I was not a novice, I had no problem working out at home.

Katy

I am glad you liked the book!! It is quite easy to follow and I am enjoying the program thus far. I am in C1W4 right now.

BTW, are you the same Katy that posted the question about weight gain over on L & S?

That's me :-) I finished the book last night and then started freaking out wondering how I'm going to eat all of these yellow carbs and how much weight it will make me gain, LOL. I am very, very excited though and I am starting today. I'm having my first meal of the day (a shake) right now :-)

Take care,
Katy D.

Katy

Just FYI...the carbs are not a goal, but a limit. You are supposed to eat up to x carbs a day. I can eat up to 400 yellow carbs........I hit usually between 125-160 a day. I will drop that a bit next cycle.....by C3 I will be down to about 100 or so I think. Plus I have not gained in this cycle. Just follow the plan and you will do fine :)

Hey Robin,

You and I started BRx at the same time. What do you think of it so far? I am liking the added strength but do NOT like the 4 days of weight training. Before I started BRx, I would do weight training twice weekly, upper body on wednesdays and lower body and abs on saturday. that gave me more time to get my cardio in.

I think I am going to go back to that. Starting next week, I am combining legs, shoulders and abs on one day, and hitting chest, back, biceps and triceps on another. I miss my cardio and I find it harder to stick to my eating plans when i am not doing cardio. I know its mental, but after five weeks of doing only weight training with smaller amounts of cardio, I don't feel like i am really trying to get fit and I can't visualize changing my body. It sounds crazy I know, because with the weight training, I can see the muscles coming up in my legs and arms, but I still feel like I am missing something because I am not doing cardio.

On the good side of BRx, i have almost doubled some of my lifting areas. It is a combination of increased strength and increased confidence. At the gym last night, i did skull crushers again and felt so COOL. I saw a guy doing them with a bar and I will try that this weekend because I will have a friend at the gym to spot me.

Tik

I like the training splits myself. I have never been a big cardio person, plus with my achilles tendonitis I can't do much cardio anyways. I also like that I am getting stronger, and I enjoy going to the gym more.

As for the food, I still struggle to get my protein in, and I do worry about how I am going to do it in C2.

I don't know how tweaking the exercises will work. I know if you ask any of the experts they will tell you to go through the program one time by the book, and go from there. But I understand why you want to do what you are doing - sounds almost like the BFL splits. I do like aspects of both programs - too bad we cant combine them for a custom program heeh

Keep me posted on how you are doing!!

LOL!

It's funny that you said that, Robin because that seems to be pretty much what I'm doing. I don't know how it will work, but I guess I'll see. I have been through the hideous dieting cycle WAY too many times and I just refuse to go there again. For me, that means that I will not write down everything I eat, weigh and measure everything that I put in my mouth or white-knuckle to not eat certain foods ever again. I will never again be in the position where I have "one last night of eating before the big diet". For me, this translates to very BFL-like eating with the weight training program BodyRx since the heavy weights and no strenuous cardio really appealed to me. Like I said, we'll see where it goes since I'm my own little guinea pig :-) I may have to change things up later, but for now I'm really enjoying myself. Just thought I'd throw this in as food for thought. I'm really glad you're doing so well with program, great work!

Take Care,
Katy D.

Katy

If I may ask, what was your starting weight on this? Mine was 265 (You can PM this to me if you like). I am trying to see how many people are on this that have a lot of weight to lose like me. I have already lost 5.5 lbs, which surprised me, but I was happy about it :)

I pretty much stick to the book on this program, with very minor tweaks......I don't stress over the protein not being my body weight in grams, and I still have some sugar - not much, and not HFCS.

I also have been on the diet bandwagon way too many times. I was journaling daily on Fitday, but I now only do it a few times a week. I will probably start again in C2, since my carbs will drop a bit I want to make sure that I don't go over. Right now that is not an issue.

Keep up the good work! :strong:

Hi Robin,

WTG on the loss! I am 5'4, very top-heavy/apple shaped and weighed 170 (my all time high including pregnancy) last time I went to the Dr.'s office. I don't weigh at home as I easily become ruled by the scale. My size 14 jeans are tight some days. I have a whole size 10 wardrobe that I would like to wear again, but I won't cry if they get too loose, LOL. Thanks for sharing your progress. I really enjoy keeping tabs on you.

Take Care,
Katy D.
