Rant about power cleans and deadlifts
My two favourite exercises are now officially off the list.
I tried to power clean yesterday and nearly whacked my belly. I can't do it with proper form anymore. Deadlifts don't feel good anymore. Now, I have to go 4-6 months without a single deadlift or power clean. My Olympic weightlifting ladies, how do I survive :?: :dizzy: :?: :dizzy: :?: Whatever happened to the pudgy girl who used to lie to her high school PE teacher about how many laps she really ran? I think she died a long time ago... |
Ah, yes. Lifting while pregnant.
I kept doing it as long as I could, despite the stares from the other gym-goers. (Students, mostly, and completely flabbergasted by the thought that a pregnant woman might still be able to lift.) I think I stopped shortly after a workout during which I rolled off the T-bar row machine. I guess I'd avoid the technique-heavy Oly lifts. Quite aside from the possibility of whacking your belly, late-stage pregnancy will throw off your balance and your pelvis structure. Not worth it, IMHO. But, you could presumably still squat (maybe lighter), do pullups/assisted pullups, and do pushups, with your hands elevated to give your belly clearance. Planks for core work. OH press/push press. Experiment! I wouldn't recommend the T-bar row. :) The pudgy girl became strong! K |
Aw, the memories of training while pregnant, my youngest is now 22 years old..For DS I trained two weeks before delivery, for DD 6 weeks just because I was soooo huge I would sweat like crazy, it was a summer pregnancy...
It's tough I had to modify a LOT... The stares were hillarious. The men who knew me would take my weights on and off the machines, chivalry was not deat back then :lol: ... I was back in the gym for both pregnancies in about 2 weeks as soon as I had some sort of semblance of a routine at home. I'd work around everyone schedule, I was a stay at home mom though... I'd get to the gym either very early, 5am or very late 9pm.... but it worked for me although it was a challenge ... Good luck to you :preg: |

kaw~ I agree, I'm just going to stick with the basics. For now, it's a great time practice snatches! Ilene~ wow, 2 weeks after :) Very impressive. I don't think the men do that anymore. I worked out at work the other day (I work in a police department so it's 99% men in the gym at all times), and they just stared with their jaws open while I did an incline bench, squats, and row with the Oly bar. On a side note, I found out today we are having a BOY! Yay :) |

How about front squats from a rack (stay on your heels!), KB snatches, incline or decline push ups, pull ups, wall balls, medicine ball cleans, squat thrusts (take a look at crossfit Fran). Be careful :hug: Mel |
Sacha, sorry to hear about the cleans and deadlifts. I'm only on restrictions from overhead stuff for the shoulder, but it's driving me bonkers, so I can relate, somewhat! Maybe you can still do some technique work with a pvc or broomstick, just to keep the movements in your warm-up routine a couple days a week?
