At the risk of this getting lost as we transition in the March thread, maybe someone can repost it there?

Lydia  that was my thought! When I was training at the private studio, we had a few people and trainers who could do that. We also had a guy end up with a very bloody leg once.
When I incorporated jumping into clients' routines, I was AMAZED that some people just couldn't jump. Fear...but also in some cases they just could figure out which muscles to activate. Generally, jumping is not something that adults do unless it is a reaction and almost autonomic. For those people, I would start with a step with no risers at all, or even just jumps on the floor with the "target" marked. Usually within ten minutes most people could graduate to a low plyo box by increasing the height every two or three jumps. These were the same people who looked at that same box 10 minutes earlier and shook their head saying uh, NO! no way. I'm willing to bet that EVERYONE of them jumped like champs as kids. One adjustment that eliminates some of the fear factor is to place a nice thick towel on the top and over the edge of the box. People rarely miss and usually clear it by many inches, but knowing that you might hit terry cloth instead of metal is comforting. Just don't trip! Jumping sideways is even more entertaining. There are a lot of people who just can't figure that out at first :dizzy: I've done a lot of jumps onto the medium plyo box that hits me at high-mid thigh level, probably about 24 inches. I once tried the double and was scared to death. Did it, didn't get a t-shirt, not going to do it again! Mel |
Oh Fran! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. They look like they are having a way to much fun. Probably a love hate thing too. Better not to think about what you are going to put yourself through before hand and just jump in and do it.
