Now I understand one reason why my pants size was so large.

  • A long time ago I posted that I didn't understand why people that weighed the same as me and were about the same height had so much smaller pants sizes. Now after weight training I understand that muscle takes up less space then my fat body does. It took me 46 years to understand that. When I was a size 24, 22, 20, 18, 16, 14, 12 I didn't understand it. Now that I can actually fit into a 10(it is a tight squeeze), I understand even though my scale weight hasn't changed since I was in a 14-16 it is all about the weights that I lift and the cardio I do. I'm glad you guys are here.
  • Hey Sharon, it took me 46 years to figure that out too! Discovering weightlifting was the key to my weight loss success -- in fact, I'm positive that I wouldn't have lost the weight and kept it off for all these years without it. Keep it up, chickie, and you're going to be in single digits before you know it!
  • Yeah, and not only does muscle take up less space than fat, it also consumes more calories. My basal metabolic rate is much higher now, so I can eat more. Hooray.
  • I love it. Bring that muscle on. One of my friends when she saw my biceps the other day said , "watch out you are going to make our husbands look bad." Well he better start joining me at the gym then.

That was eventually what got my bf to join the gym: my muscles were getting bigger than his. Whatever it takes.
  • I get yelled at (not really) by my husband for lifting too much weight He doesn't really subscribe to the lifting heavy idea.
  • Heck, yes. I was much happier than when my DH said my shoulders had defintion than when he said he liked my new haircut.

OK, that's the real reason, I'm lurking here and trying to get more of a routine going with weightlifting. The single digit clothing size is motivation, but not as much as this one right now.
  • I'm still about 20 lbs over my goal weight, but I'm happily wearing sizes 6-8. The last time I was at goal weight, I wore size 10's - I attribute the difference to the fact that I'm exercising and building muscle. Not only do I look better, but I feel really strong!
