Happy Tuesday gals!

Boy, am I feeling the attempted 50 pushups I did yesterday. I say attempted, because each time I tried to do 25, I didn't quite make it. And, inner thighs are screaming from the jumping squats. Good stuff!

Pat - my first thought is that you need a new kitten! Then your lonely one will have a new friend.

Lydia - I know what you mean about those female cats and men. I rescued a stray, wild kitten 2 summers ago, and she wants nothing to do with me. But, she LOVES DF - sleeps with him every night, on his lap every evening. She only has use for me when I'm feeding her! Luckily I found myself a baby boy last summer, and he LOVES his mamma!

I can't look at the videos here at work - I'll have to check them out later.

Hiker - a mountain lion? Wow! I'm with Mel - I stick to dumbells - I have form problems with most exercises when I try to use a bar.

Hello to everyone else - have a great day!
Cindy

DH just scoped out the area and found a deer's head.

Well at least I know my pet lion is well fed. Still I am going to run later in the day...they like to hunt in the morning. Eek!

Looked up the dumbell snatch. I really like those explosive type exercises. I have no great attatchment to doing exercises with a bar particularly. Anyone have any suggestions of any of those cool full body type exercises that you can do with a dumbell.

Hi LWL,

I've been good this week so far...1 hour power class yesterday. I could barely walk out of there. And biked to work & back today. i could not make it all the way, when almost in the village i had to drop back to 3rd and then even to 2nd gear. very weird, like there was no power in the legs at all any more.

Maybe the 3 hrs yardwork of the weekend did me in ?

Anyway, 1 hour popower class is sceduled for tomorrow, and then only 1 hour more to hit my goal of the week of 4.5 hours.

Lydia - about the barbell, there actually are different ones, both in lenght and in shape. You have then straight and shaped with bends, which appear to be easier for some stuff. I bought mine as a BD present for myself over the internet. The mailman did not know what was inside the package, but it commented on the weight. Mine is about 1m60 (same as my height) and weighs about 22 pounds (10 kgs). I like to do the exercises for the big muscle groups with the barbell on my neck because I do not have sufficient strenght in my hands to hold the weights. Not that I use that much weight, but i have a bit of arthritis, and I cannot hold on to heavvy weights long enough.

Pat - enjoy your "girls nightout" episode with DH gone for a visit!

Hi to all the other LWL,

have a great day,
rabbit

Lydia - cat? mind? I love my girl, but she's not the brightest star in the sky.

Cindy - We will eventually get another cat, but DH is not ready yet. He was very attached to the ill one. Meanwhile, I need to find some siamese fur colored clothing. :)

So the good news on my knees is that with the taping I have no pain going upstairs! Yay!! Still some going down, but dimished. I have hope that there may be painless stairs in my future.

Rabbit - good going on the exercise. :)

Hiker - okay you got me beat! A mountain lion! My DH saw a lynx earlier this spring, but he was about 12-15 miles from town in a state park.

 Have a great Tuesday!

OOps...Sorry Lydia and hikerchick... I got you mixed up on the barbell question!

Lydia227 05-15-2007 05:46 PM

Hi Rabbit:wave:

Not a problem at all. Your post made me curious and I started "shopping" online just to see what is out there. Hope the week is going well for you and you are able to enjoy your pool. It certainly feels like pool weather here too but the park pool will not open until the end of the month.

Pat: Sooo... is the Siamese colored coat for the benefit of your cat...:chin: or your DH? :lol3: Sorry couldn't resist.

Well crap. ;) Since I lost my favourite step class instructor, I've been struggling with my workout schedule. I'm still trying to settle in and I've been missing my once a week step class. I think I've stuck so well with regular exercise because I've mixed it up so much...one step class, one power class, one spinning class, one 5k run and one or two of my own strength training classes. So today, I tried a different instructor and I just hated it. :( She's very nice but a little too chipper for my taste. And way too bouncy. The speed of the music was turned up to a hyper speed. Whatever, I'll figure it out.

Thanks to Depalma and Lydia (I think) for the deadlift info. As I said, I do deadlifts in the power class but couldn't picture it with dumbells. When I saw the video I realized that it really is exactly the same move. I need to work more squats/lunges/deadlifts into my own strength training.

Pat - glad your knees seem to be doing a bit better.

rabbit - I love to hear from anyone who loves their power class as much as I do. I look so forward to it because it's such a great full body workout! I always struggle when they switch up the music/routines though. But I know it's important because it keeps me from getting too comfortable.

hikerchick - a mountain lion...holy crap! That's scary! I'm more likely to get hit by an 18-wheeler but I'm not sure which is better. Be careful out there!

Power tomorrow.....yay!!!:carrot:

:D

Mel 05-15-2007 08:23 PM

Lydia- I can do about 6 of those dips unweighted before I fall through the dip stand. Numbers 5 and 6 aren't pretty.

Hiker- Echoing Elissa's sentiments-- holy crap! A mountain lion (even well fed on venison) would definitely make me reconsider my outdoor exercise. My fastest mile in the last decade was 7 minutes and it was a near death experience. I'm sure the lion would get me within the first 20 yards!

I like to do clean and jerks with dumbbells- one arm at a time. Here's a good set of pics for how to do it with a bar (and you can see the potential for losing teeth!)

Shoulders and db clean and jerks for me tomorrow! Cardio...as always! No mountain lions in my family room :D

Delurking briefly to thank you, Lydia, for putting me onto this! I've always wanted to be able to whistle through my fingers so I've found the website and we've got it as a household project. That's F 51 and 3/4 (me), M 40 and M 7 on Saturday. What a laugh! Thanks again! I'll let you know if we progress at all.

Hikerchick - great news about the wildlife! Mountain lion = cougar? I'm feeling a bit like you at the moment: not much to say. Things are going OK but I just feel a bit quiet.

Hello to everyone!

Lydia227 05-16-2007 08:20 AM

Silverbirch: Glad I could help.:s::lol3:

Maybe I should practice this too. It would really "make his day" if I could do this and he couldn't. Of course, I would save this little newly acquired skill for just the right moment.

Happy Friday all! Geez, we are getting a bit quiet - guess everyone has much going on with the nicer weather = yard work and more activities outdoors.

I'm plugging along still - guess I've not got a lot to say that's new either, right now. Mom and sister arrive this weekend and stay for a week - should be interesting!

Have a great weekend everyone!
Cindy

Uhm Cindy, we're over here. :sssh: :lol3: The Chat-Check in Thread: May 16-31. Girl, you have been busy cleaning haven't you! :p
