hmmmm. tell us more!!!

there are LOTS of possibilities, including the idea that your body is taking a break from losing.

or, maybe it's time to shake up your eating habits and maybe even your exercise. unfortunately, our bodies become complacent when we eat and do the same things - a certain amount of variety keeps it guessing, metabolically, that is.

soooo, let's track your food for a little while, and let's talk about what your exercise is like. and let's not forget the importance of water!!!!

chin up, darlin. it'll be fine.

I have not had WLS but log on regularly to the blog of someone who had it about a month ago. She said that another person she knows who had the surgery quite awhile ago said that the WLS itself was actually a minor part of losing weight and that it still had to revolve around exercising and changing your eating habits. Also I've heard that it is very common to plateau with weight loss even with WLS. Not knowing what you are eating or how you are exercising I can't say what you should do or not do but usually increasing or changing your exercise helps ie adding strength training.

Okay, I am back, been pretty busy and am catching up with things. It just seems like I am a very slow loser? I am working out at the gym, training with hubby 2-3 times per week. We do 30 mins cardio then weight training, alternating body areas. I am sticking to my 5 ounces per meal as dietician said. I am trying upping my protien this week to see if that makes any difference? Water I need to work on...I am not so good there. I have alot of decaf tea and coffee, but just plain water, not so much.

How are you sleeping? This can be a huge factor.

Ahhh, sleep? Well, I am in the middle of my first semester of nursing clinicals, so I am under pressure for a lot of things. DH works 2nd shift, so I stay up (who am I kidding? I am up studying anyway) and chat with him a bit, I usually crash about 1-130AM and am up at 545 every morning. I do get to sleep in somewhat on the weekends, usually up at 8, 830 at the latest.

I hate to say this Lori, and I don't know if it's possible for you because of your schedule, but I think you need to add a couple of workouts a week. Adding some more cardio to the mix (and maybe some more weight training too) might help you rev up your metabolism more. I have found that I need to workout at least five days a week, and usually I do six. I try to do at least 45 minutes of cardio per session, because I've found that's what works best for me, in addition to lifting at least three days a week. I'm a slow loser too, and that's what's helped me.

Just my thoughts,
Chickadee

Stalls are horrible..but they do happen.

A true plateau is 4 weeks of no losing..and thats pounds or inches.

I must ask..do you measure yourself? Even when we aren't losing pounds..we are losing inches. By faithfully measuring every part of your body that is measureable..you WILL see a loss even when that scale won't budge.

Most people who have surgery now..dont think of measuring..only weighing..and as an oldie..we were encouraged to measure..lord know it has kept me sane more than once

So rest assured..even though that scale isnt moving..you ARE losing..just measure once a week..you'll SEE it for yourself..and it will help to get through these tough times of no shown loss.

Hope this helps

Hmmm, yes my schedule is pretty jammed right now, I know there are some nurses on here who can relate to the "gotta study all the time" mode. (My poor house! Thank goodness spring break is coming soon. I am afraid the dust bunnies are going to stage a revolution and take over if I don't so something soon! )

Anyway, I was thinking today (scary, huh?) I could definitley up my cardio when I am at the gym, and I think I could squeeze in a couple more workouts? I have been looking forward to the nicer weather so I can get outside more, that may be a way to get some more exercise in too.

I am really feeling the extra protien this week, I have started mixing an unflavored whey powder in my morning yogurt or oatmeal. My breakfast stays with me longer and my energy seems to be up. I got a smoothie maker for Christmas, I may need to break it out of the box soon )

Thanks for the ideas and thoughts everyone!!!

Hugs!

I will have to try that too! The day before my surg I had to check in with the dieticians office to be weighed and measured. I go to seem them again next week and I know they will weigh and measure me again, so it should be interesting to see the diffs. And I can start keeping track of my measurements too.

Thanks!
