Peachie, I say we give them the "friends and family" test first! IQ, loyalty, conversational skills, IQ, romance, IQ, flexibility, did I say IQ?

Chickadee 01-22-2004 05:51 PM

Fine, try and get me in trouble! Hmmph.

Chickadee

p.s. Peach, the moderator likes me better than you! She told me so.

jiffypop 01-22-2004 06:38 PM

tee hee... ST.. you forgot one VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION:

solvency!!!!!!!!

and let's not forget that he has to not only TOLERATE but ENJOY my family and friends. a tall order for anyone. and he doen'st have to like ALL of them, but he has to be polite at all times.

and the moderator says that she's not choosing sides. she needs SOMEWHERE to run to!!!!

stilltrying 01-22-2004 07:57 PM

But Jiffy, he does not GET to take the test unless he meets all the criteria you listed! I have to tell you though, I'm a real behaviorist and I say, regardless of how he feels about your family and friends, he better act "as if"!

As for taking sides, just think what you could accomplish if you would let each of the chicklettes (you like my French spelling?)THINK that they could be your favorite if only she would.....you fill in the blank

I have actually been thinking about this lately...

...and have been meaning to make a list for myself. Here are some things that make me happy:

~ My 3 sons and my wonderful dh

~ My bowl of Total Raisin Bran and Kashi cereal in the morning

~ Coffee

~ A hot shower on a cold, winter day after a great workout

~ Getting dressed (from my new, smaller wardrobe)

~ Putting comfy sneakers on and feeling "ready for the day"

~ Counting my water ounces

~ Getting in my comfy bed that has been warmed by my electric blanket

~ Shopping for new clothes

~ Have a good t.v. show to look forward to

~ Football games

~ Candles in the window

~ Taking photos

~ Message boards like these where I can get wonderful support and advice

~ Empty laundry bins

~ Hearing my boys' laughter...especially my middle one...he's got the best "chuckle"!

~ Feeling and seeing my muscles more defined

~ Organized spaces

~ Jeans

I have noticed lately that I look forward to more of the little things that make me happy throughout the day...and they REALLY help! The coffee, the hot shower, the sneakers getting me ready for the day. Of the MANY things that I have learned through this weight loss journey, I think I am the most surprised at how much I have learned about how important a routine is and how important it is to have your "bag of tricks" set up to fall back on no matter what your schedule is like.

I know I just kind of dropped in here. Hope you don't mind! This has been a great topic and very helpful to me.

Thank you!

Mary Beth, so glad you did stop by, because you brought up a very good point. If my morning routine is disturbed in any way, basically meaning that I am not out for my walk before I do anything else, my entire day is ruined. I cannot find my equilibrium and more often than not, I don't folllow my eating program either. It almost feels like I am inhabiting somebody else's body. My mood is different, my pace is irregular, there is no flow to my day and let's just say I'm not the best company. You are so right, we need to be prepared with a back-up plan and I rarely am.

What makes me happy?
  • snuggling under the covers with both my cats on me
  • spending the night with my laptop in my lap reading posts
  • caller ID (so I don't have to answer all those bothering calls)
  • winning a fight with ole Alvin

Peachie, OMG, I was so charmed and overwhelmed by your post yesterday, that I forgot my manners completely. Thank you so much for saying such lovely things and for the memorable introductions!

Your recollection of the details of our e-mail exchanges is so impressive! I am touched and delighted that you were able to find some comfort in the bit of feedback you received at that time.

The only thing I remember thinking was "how I wish I could clone this mommy and distribute her like a gift to all those kids out there who need someone JUST like her!" You are a rare specimen my young friend and I am so glad to know you!

Ms Spotdog 01-22-2004 11:51 PM

Ok - I am going to do this. This is just off the top of my head, in quick sucession (sp? too tired for correct spelling)

What makes me happy:

- The three wonderful, unique, completely individual young adults whose souls chose ME as their mother *big sigh*

- My silly, spotted, trust-me-with-his-life, big dogger Scooter.

- Long, HOT showers to clear my mind.

- Driving up to MY house, which contains MY things, in MY car, going inside and locking MY door and knowing that my kids and I are safe phyically & emotionally - that we are completely free to say, do and think WHATEVER we want to without disapproval or criticism

- My mom who has loved me unconditionally for 44 years

- Living in America

- GREAT conversation with smart, caring women

- Viggo Mortenson in the Lord of the Rings

It makes me happy when I am having a particularly bad day and I am tired and forgot to put on lipstick or have a bad cold and dragging my feet :faint:

Then suddenly someone comes up and says something very nice or encouraging to me or does me a big favor. It always takes me by surprise and is enough to change a bad day into a good day.

It really gets your attention when it comes from somebody you were not expecting it from!

Sooner or Later 01-23-2004 01:21 AM

Yawn!!

I'm up way past my bedtime...you guys are keeping me up!

Here's what makes me happy:

The first day of winter, because the days are getting LONGER.

The first day of summer, because they're getting EVEN LONGER!

Orlando Bloom in Lord of the Rings. I like the strong, silent type.

Any science fiction movie with at least 2 sequels.

Any Jack Nicholson movie (especially his last few).

Kathy Bates.

And what's her name, my new favorite actress.

Pictures of my family laughing.

All my favorite chickerinos on the WLS and Low Carb boards (and now LWL and Maintainers where I lurk).

Javy (He loves me. I'm not kidding.)

Low cholesterol.

Lonesome Dove.

Working harder on the tready than I thought I could when I climbed on.

Stinking up the house with lots of candles.

Reading what I want (instead of what I should).

Sleep...which I'm missing out on!

Nice to meet you, stilltrying!

Later gator,
Sooner

SOONER

I absolutely LOVE....LONESOME DOVE...I watch it every time it's on....

Thank you, meeting you is also very nice. Wish it had been sooner rather than later, but better than never. I also like reading what I want and not what I should.

Chickadee 01-23-2004 02:08 PM

Sooner, my own little doppelganger,
Lonesome Dove? I have told you that's my favorite book of all time, right? I reread it once a year, just because it's so freakin' good.

If you haven't, you've gotta read The Da Vinci Code. I'm rereading it right now, just in case I missed something. Good stuff!

By the way Sooner, Javy and I have been an item for the past six months. Poor guy was in a state of flux (not in the state of Georgia!) but recently I told him that Deb needs him more than I do. How gallant can a girl be?

What made me happy today was discovering that I can finally button my husband's jacket over my hips! Now if only I could get into his jeans... :faint: Maybe in another 6 months or so?
