what meats are you able to eat?

  • I heard someone say that beef isn't handled well after surgery. That will severly SUCK, if that is true!!

I made a WONDERFUL beef stew tonight, I make it in it's own juices and added a can of beef broth, stewed tomatoes, lawry's seasoning salt, Emil's essence, pepper, and some texas pete (hot sauce), a bag of mixed veggies. I know quite a few people that use corn starch to thicken it but I can't, my son is allergic to corn syrup, yellow corn anything.
  • You got any leftovers?

    I don't eat much, honest!

As long as the meat is really tender and moist and I chew it slowly and eat slowly I usually don't usually have a problem with it, purpleroses. I am about 7 weeks out.

One thing I have found is that just because a food agrees with me today it doesn't necessarily mean it will agree with me tomorrow.

Sounds like a nice dish to make ahead for your family and then freeze a little bit for yourself in those tiny 4oz glad containers.

    whatcha cooking tomorrow?

    peach
ps...I have yet to have a problem with fish...unless it is tunafish that has been chopped rough ( like in a cuisinart, not flaked) with chopped celery (ouch)
  • actually I'm going to be a cooking fool this weekend making stuff to freeze so that way my mom doesn't have to cook as well as take care of my household!!!

I'm going to go buy the gladwear and have fun

I'll be making more beef stew, chicken noodle (minus the noodle), spaghetti sauce, chili.

  • peachie hit the nail on the head with that 'what works one day doesn't work the next' thing. it's so true... and what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for someone else.

the nurse at the obesity center where i go says that some people handle chicken but not beef, and others handle the beef and not chicken, but few people can eat both.

i do well with beef... small bites, moist, not dry. can't eat a chicken breast, unless it's in a sauce of some sort [gravy.. tomato sauce, something...]. thighs are better. turkey is ok if it's fresh and not dry. i could not eat a scrambled egg for more than a year [and i still have trouble with them sometimes!] but deviled eggs made with chili paste or tabasco.. NO PROBLEM!!!! [there's no logic!!]

i have more of a problem with leftovers. the first meal is fine, the second one is ok.. the third is kind of iffy...

we were told that thinly sliced deli turkey, chicken, roast beef were good choices to start adding solid food. andn anything that's thinly sliced or finely chopped. so that means that thinly pounded chicken or beef or pork or veal are good to try. and any stewed meat. when you're eating soup, though, you can't eat the broth AND the solids. the broth will wash the solids out of your tiny tummy and you won't get full and you'll eat too much.
  • Wow, reading all of the post and it helps hit home with some of the things that happened to me. some days food goes in and down really easy and I can eat more than I thought that I should and then other days look out. The naseau hits and nothing seems to want to go down. Water is no problem always. I have trouble with mayo it is too fatty and fish of any kind I have a problem. The other night I was able to tolerate some pork chop but only 2 bites with some applesauce. Eggs I have not had any problems with. I have found that the dryer the meat the harder it is to get down. It is all very experimental with each person. What we post you have to take as a guide and use or try them to see what works for you. grammy
  • I am 5 months out from my surgery and I still have a lot of trouble with beef. But, to repeat what everyone else has said, some meals I can eat with no problem, but the same meal another night will have me in the bathroom throwing up before I finish.
  • I also forgot to add, sugar is a no-no. I tried a chocolate bar two months out from my surgery and almost immediately it was coming out of both ends at the same time (sorry). If I accidently eat anything with the least amount of sugar, it makes me sicker than a dog.
