Default coffee

I was wondering since I noticed that some wls patients drink coffee. Just how much do you drink? Is it always coffee with protein or is it just coffee without protein? Do you count that as your liquid?

I drink coffee. Find it keeps me warmer especially with it so cold outside right now. I could drink it all day but am afraid of drinking too much of it. I do drink coffee with splenda and also click or chike protein coffees. I don't count my coffee as my liquid count as I tend to drink well over 64 ounces of water too.

So how do you take your coffee if you drink it?

I've never been a big coffee drinker, but i know SEVERAL WLS folks who can't survive without it. Some might add protein powder to it in the morning, but most take it however they like it - if they're heavy duty coffee drinkers, most of them drink decaf for most of the day, with skim milk or black, with or without some non-sugar sweetener. If they just have one or two cups, they might go for it with some half and half and sugar.

for me, even my occasional cup is decaf [because i was forcibly decaffeinated] with something fattier than whole milk. Geezzzz. i drink one cup every two weeks or so. I can have some cream. dammit. and no sweetener.

I drink full caf black, sometimes with a little cream if the coffee is too strong.

I have heart problems, and personally I can't drink much coffee because I get heart palpitations, but I do like tea a lot. But even tea will give me palpitations if I have too much of it in a day.

I'm think I'm more sensitive to changes in my heart rhythm than other people are. Every year I get a pacemaker test done, where my heartbeat is altered in each chamber of my heart, and I can feel the differences strongly. But when I asked the tech if everyone feels that, he said some people can't even feel it at all, and some people (like me) can end up in a coughing fit because it feels like my heart is pressing on my throat or something.

So, I think either the caffeine or tannins or something else in coffee (and to a lesser extent, tea) can cause physiological changes which you might not even be aware of.

I still drink tea (just not 4 cups in a row), I avoid coffee for the most part because I don't like how it makes me feel, but I'll still have it from time to time (in small amounts) for flavouring.

I think like with everything else, moderation is the key word.

Edit: I realized after posting that I'm in the WLS section. I haven't had WLS, just to clarify. So I don't know how things are different for you guys.

I drink 1-2 cups of coffee per day sometimes with protein either with 1/2 and 1/2 or with almond milk. Randomly I started sipping on hot water (forgot a tea bag at work that day) and it's not bad and keeps me toasty I also will add Lemon to it

Since my RNY surgery 7 weeks ago, I've switched to decaf and I'm doing ok.
