I have heart problems, and personally I can't drink much coffee because I get heart palpitations, but I do like tea a lot. But even tea will give me palpitations if I have too much of it in a day.
I'm think I'm more sensitive to changes in my heart rhythm than other people are. Every year I get a pacemaker test done, where my heartbeat is altered in each chamber of my heart, and I can feel the differences strongly. But when I asked the tech if everyone feels that, he said some people can't even feel it at all, and some people (like me) can end up in a coughing fit because it feels like my heart is pressing on my throat or something.
So, I think either the caffeine or tannins or something else in coffee (and to a lesser extent, tea) can cause physiological changes which you might not even be aware of.
I still drink tea (just not 4 cups in a row), I avoid coffee for the most part because I don't like how it makes me feel, but I'll still have it from time to time (in small amounts) for flavouring.
I think like with everything else, moderation is the key word.
Edit: I realized after posting that I'm in the WLS section. I haven't had WLS, just to clarify. So I don't know how things are different for you guys.
