  • blondee.. can't wait to hear how it goes for you!! and it'll all work out for you.

i see my surgeon on wednesday for a regular check up. and i actually ate lobster last night!!! i got through both claws before i was full. now, i still have all that yummy tail meat for something fabulous..

before surgery, i could have happily eaten the whole lobster, not that it's a BAD food, just that eating that amount seems so strange to me now.
  • I had my group discussion last week. I'm just as positive now as I was before the group discussion that the Lap-Band is for me. I need to return a phone call to the Dr's office tomorrow and see where I go from here. Things seem to be falling into place quickly.
I'm getting really excited! I'll post again as soon as I find out more info.

    YAY!!!!

  • great news blondee!!!!! full steam ahead!!!! what kind of aftercare/support does the doc offer?? and keep us posted.
  • I have about 75 lbs. to loose. I am 5'2" and around 200 lbs. Haven't weighed in a while so it could be a little less or more. I just can't seem to control my appetite. I am interested in the lap band, but I have no insurance. Around how much does this cost in Mexico? I am sure it is a lot cheaper than in the U.S.
  • I having all my pre-op tests done on Friday. After all the tests come back they will schedule my surgery in Mexico.

I'm going through a US doctor. He'll do all my after care. He'll do my fills and be available to me 24/7 for emergencies if they should arise.

Momma3times- I'm paying $10,500 to go to a very good Doctor in Mexico. I know there are cheaper ones too. I'll be paying travel and lodging expenses for my husband and I also. It will still end up cheaper then if I have it done here in the US, and I'm having it done by a Doctor with experience.

  • Thanks for the info.
  • Pre-op tests are done. Now I just have to wait for the results and then the surgery will be scheduled with Dr. Rumbaut in Mexico.

  • yipppeeee yahoooo!!!! you're really moving along here...
  • Congrats to those of you who were brave enough to go through with the lap band surgery. I too wish it was available for me.
Does anyone out there know if such a procedure is available in Ontario Canada. Doctors doing weight loss surgery down here are so rare and hard to find.
    Thanks for the help

  • Long time, no hear! Now post-op!
    Hi all!

    Sorry it's been so long!

I had my Lap-Band surgery with Dr. Rumbaut on October 1, 2002. Everything went great! I'm down 23.5 lbs. I'm still on liquids and will be for 2 more weeks. Then I progress on to more solid foods.

I get hungry, but my protein drink helps. I also have different soups. Well, I drain the broth out of campbell's soups. I'd had it with cubes of broth. LOL.

I promise to have updates closer together from now on.

  • yipppeeeee yahooOOOOOOOOOO!!!! so glad everything's going well for you..
  • first fill
    Thanks Jiff!

I had my fill today. Everything wen't great. I have 2 more days of liquids and then it's on to pureed food for me.

    Blondee
  • how did the fill feel? how's it doing today? i'm so fascinated by the lap band, so if i'm asking too many questions, just tell me to stop.

why did they have you on liquids for so long? and what kind of pureed foods will you be starting on? meat? veg? fruit? all of the above???

tell ALL!!!! inquiring minds want to know. please. [that's my polite upbringing battling with the curiosity... LOL!!!!]
  • I've been on liquids so long because that is what my Doctor believes in. He's a bit more strict then most Lap-Band Doctors, but his patients rates of success are very high. I can start all pureed foods and then when they are tolerated (and they have been) I can move onto soft foods and then a regular diet.

My fill went just fine, the Doc numbed my stomach with a teeny, tiny needle and then used the bigger needle to actually fill the band. Then he sat me up and had me drink water. My band was a little too tight so he took out just a tad of water and everything was fine. I'm drinking and eating very comfortably. No nausea or vomiting. I just get full and satisfied very quickly. It's funny, you think that you won't be satisfied if everyone around you is eating and you can eat so little, but once you are full you don't care. It's so cool!

Jiff, you don't ask too many questions. I'm very open to all questions from anyone.
