I just got back from my check-up and I now weigh 259 lbs. I haven't weigh that for 32 years, right after my son was born. I'm so excited. I know that I will plateu, slow down, but 259 FREAKIN pounds. My next goal is 25 pounds by March and 25 by June ( I want to golf with my DH and grandchildren). I might and I might not make my scheduled goals, but I will make it eventually.
Thank everyone here for all the encouragement and advice. I have been afraid to weigh until I went to the doctor's because I would get discouraged and throw a wrench into it.
No problems, and started me on prescribed pre-natal vitamins and insurance won't cover them. So I'm trying to get an RX for one of the $4.00 prenatal that Walmart carries and my doctor is pretty adamant about this certain brand. I figure with all the suppliments, prevacid and mirapex, I'm going to be spending close to $1,200 a year. OUCH! I'm worth it, but guess I'll be shopping at Goodwill the rest of my life! LOL!!
I had my first ground beef today and it settled kind of heavy, but I managed to walk it off. Oh, does anyone know a way that I can take Omega 3's? I have the nicest capsules that have mint in them to mask the fish oil taste, but they are huge. The doctor gave me permission to finally start taking them again and I really need to start them. I can't seem to get enough in through my diet. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
To all you newbies, those who are just starting and those who are plodding along, YAHOO!! If I can do it, anyone can.
In answer to your Omega 3 question, here is what I learned from Drs. Oz and Roizen:
If you squeeze some fresh lemon juice on top of a tumbler of 1 TBS. Cod liver oil, you can choke it down mighty fine. That is what we now do. It is cheaper than the high grade fish oil capsules I was buying from The Zone website and mercury free.
It worked for our grand parents, so good enough for me. I would think that for you right now, it might work. It still tastes fishy, but hey, it is not as bad tasting as broccoli and I choked that down tonight, too! lol.
Wow congratulations and go golfing :-)
I think the healthiest and tastiest source of omega-3 would be flaxseed(linseed). They have a slighly nutty flavour. They are best ground and added to cereals oats and sprinkled over salads. Or you can add them whole to your smoothie. I has a good amount of mangesium and B12 and has a whole lotta of other nutrients.
2 tablespoons of Flaxseed gives you 140% of required Daily value. It has only 94 calories.
Co-incidently i have just done an extensive research on flaxseed as I wanted to take it. I read somewhere that is the best for women overall.
Best of luck

Congratulations on the Loss Nancy--Isn't it fun to get on the scale again? About the fish oil, I do the coated capsules, take them after I have breakfast & swallow with something warm (decaf coffee/tea)

you can grind up flaxseed or drink flaxseed oil BUT the omega 3's from flax come from ALA and other fatty acids - which your body is supposed to convert to DHA and EPA but your body may not if it is in less than optimal health. you can google "fish oil vs. flaxseed" to read about the differences.....fish oils contain DHA and EPA right off from the start, so you don't need to worry about the conversion.. you can take either but it depends on what your body needs. there are tons of different liquid fish oil supplements out there, too, in many different flavors (i've seen cherry, mint, orange, etc... helps a lot if you don't like lemon). I would ask your dr. what they would prefer you had (flax vs. fish) and then go from there... i'm not a dr, i just work in a health food store, and while i have friends and family who have had WLS, i'm not familiar with everything you're going through or exactly what your body needs....
congrats on the loss!!! I know a number of people who have had WLS and it's a tough journey but very satisfying one
Wow! Seems there is a lot about Omega 3s and Flaxseed oil that I don't know! And you all of given me a lot to think about and some good sounding advise. Cod liver oil?! Grandma used to give us this to keep us regular!!! LOL! Now that had results that I'm not likely to repeat to anyone but my participating cousins!!
Thank you all so much.
So has everyone sent in their paper work? It is all done? YES!!! December always goes so fast and before you know it you will be getting a date!! I'm so excited for you. Where are you off to this week? If you are lucky, you are some place out West nice and warm and no snow! Let us know when you get your date.
