Dieter's enemy #1 : Mom
I was doing my workout [TurboJam] this afternoon. I'm incredibly self conscious; I don't like people to watch me. But, hubby was in the room with the kids, and that was OK. We are living with my parents at the moment, and have been for the last five years since I was pregnant with our oldest daughter. We're moving out, and this is one of the reasons why.
My mother comes in, plops herself down, and sighs. As I'm panting while I move to the floor for the mat portion, she says, "It's amazing [or something like that]. Before all this modern stuff, housewifes never needed to do this to stay thin."
My knee jerk reaction, "Mother, don't be a such a CENSOR."
She teared up - a common reaction when she's caught being such an, y'know - and said "I was talking about myself!" A lie, of course.
I ignored her and continued my workout. Finished, popped in another disk. My father gets home from work. Now, this is where I draw the line and she knows it. My father makes remarks about how it's so silly and I don't need to do it [not in a nice, honey, you don't need to lose any weight kind of way] or that it's a waste of time, yada yada. So, what does she do? "Oh, darling, let's eat out in the living room and watch Becky exercise."
I held my head up and continued on for another 10 minutes before getting so obscenely embarrassed that I fled the room. And here I am.
