Default confessions of a wannabe Ex-chocoholic!

Ok so, I have decided to do the unthinkable (well for me anyway) I am giving up chocolate. Its a trigger food for me-one taste and theres NO stopping! Tonight was mylast "fix". It was a fix alright, let me tell you!!! Heres to a new day tomorrow!

The Plan:

When a craving hits I will do one (or all haha) of the following:
Walk
Read
drink a full glass of water
come on 3FC
call a friend
eat an fruit/veggie serving.
do some photography

My planned diet April 17th
BF-oatmeal with raisins
L-turkey (small bit of gravy) and salad w/
S-Apple
D-turkey, stuffing (on a side dish so as to keep my serving small)

so heres to a life without chocolate...

thanks for the support!

haha.. good lucky girly. It can be done. I did it!! Well.. I have chocolate every now and then, but it doesnt grab a hold of me like it used too. Now when I do want some.. I get the 88% coca organic chocolate. It really works for me. So now Im not sure if its the chocolate, or if its just milk chocolate or conventional chocolate with additives and all that jazz. Keep us informed.. I used to love chocolate so much that if it were a man I'd have married him. I couldnt even see chocolate without craving it.. now it doesnt bother me.

Hi fitgal,

I think I'll join you! I've been so down because I've gained 3 lbs. in the past few weeks and I think chocolate is to blame (not the chocolate itself - my lack of control around it )

It all started when my DH decided to start having chocolate in the house because it is "so healthy". There has been a lot of hype about it lately in the media and he's convinced it's the best thing since sliced bread! There are many other foods that are high in antioxidants, but of course chocolate is also so yummy.

I started getting his favorite dark chocolate and then slipped into the habit of getting some milk chocolate for me 'for its health benefits'. Hence my weight gain. Well, hubby is just going to have to keep a stash of his chocolate hidden away and he'll have to buy it himself from now on.

Like you, chocolate is such a huge trigger for me. Once I get a taste I can't stop and it also leads to me eating other no-no foods.

Maybe we should start a recovering chocoholics club!

Good luck in your efforts to avoid this addictive food!

One of my friends just went off of pepsi, she spent 3 days with flu like aches and pains.
I know that when you go off of sugar its like going into withdrawls,,,you may experience headaches and feeling flu like.

I haven't had a chocolate in probably 4 years. I had problems with my bladder, which were aggravated by caffeine, so I just stopped having chocolate and other caffeine products, including my beloved iced coffee. Rarely now and then I may have a fat-free chocolate pudding, or my dietitian friend will make me a low-fat chocolate muffin, but these are VERY rare and I don't really enjoy them as much as I thought I would.

Basically now I just tell myself that I am 'allergic' to chocolate. This is true in a way, because even if they didn't affect my bladder (which I don't know if they would anymore), they DO affect my body by making me put on weight, so that makes me 'allergic' to them in a kinda weird way. HEY! It works for me!

I finally convinced my latest class of kids that I don't eat chocolate. Not ONE chocolate for my birthday or Easter this year. I haven't been able to totally convince all of my kids before. Hubby doesn't really eat chocolate anymore either, as he simply feels better without it, so we used to have to give it to friends and neighbours when I got it as gifts. Our neighbours usually LOVE Christmas around our house, but they may be sorely disappointed this year.

I'm not sure whether I had 'withdrawal symptoms' or not when I stopped chocolate and other caffeine products. I may have, but I can't remember them, so I can't imagine that they were too bad. Trust me, I would have remembered if they were bad!

Anyway... I hope you find some way to stay away from chocolate, at least for long enough so that it doesn't control YOU, and you control IT.

Take care,

Zelma

thankfully i am not a huge chocolate person. i do like it on occasion, and if I have it in my office though I WILL eat it...

however, i bought just a piece of chocolate cake on Friday at the grocer (better than buying the whole cake) and it took me till late yesterday to eat it all....THATS willpower!! i was so so so proud of myself! I basically would just eat a bite or two here and there, amounting to a third a day!

good luck on your endeavor!

I am quite a chocoholic myself. Being the day after Easter, I've had my fill of it and would definitely benefit from avoiding it. I will certainly ponder the notion!

ZedAus: You mentioned that you say you're "allergic" due to the bladder complications. I'm allergic to it too....I break out in fat....(old joke, ha-ha)

Not to Hijack the thread because it really has to do with chocolate.. but I have heard of hidden food allergies that can be causing you to hold weight and by cutting it out you will lose weight pretty quick. I dont know how true it is. Maybe I was allergic to soda lol Cuz I dropped weight hella quick when I cut it out. Maybe I wont have chocolate until sometime next month lol I havent had any in like 2 weeks. Maybe I have a food allergy to it and I will drop the last 20 Yeah right.

Maggie : It might be an old joke but Ive never heard it.. and I plan on using it

April 17th went well...a few time I wanted some chocolate but I didn't give in. I even went out for coffee with my friends and REJECTED the cafe mocha that I sooo wanted! I oppted for a cappacino which was still very satisfying!

April 18th= day 2

Yay for you fitgal!

Substituting the cappuchino for the cafe mocha was a good idea and still a nice treat .

I haven't had any chocolate for the past couple of days and hubby has agreed to buy his own chocolate from now on, so I won't be tempted to buy the kind I like. He's used to having me hide it from HIM so that he doesn't eat it all at once. We'll, now HE's going to have to get some willpower!

Keep up the good work! Here is some willpower dust

Hey - that willpower dust must be working - I've resisted temptation again too!

I was at our new shopping plaza checking out stuff at Sur La Table and right next door is my favorite coffee shop that has outrageous chocolate biscottis. Well, I decided not to even go in the coffee shop and after I got home I made myself a cafe latte and had some apple slices warmed up a bit in the microwave and dipped in a tsp. of sugar mixed with some cinnamon. Yum! Healthy and tasty!
