Poor college student in an insanely intense workload major who has lost her motivation and can't even imagine how to fix it.
I have a new, weird craving... not of a certain food, but of just the act of eating food. I'm not hungry, but I'm craving SOMETHING and it seems like food should go there, but i've never felt it before now. It it an oral thing and I need to be chewing on something?
I seriously sit and think "Okay, I'm not hungry, I'm not thirsty, Nothing even sounds appetizing, but the only thing I can think of doing to satisfy this craving is eating" and I can't get rid of the feeling. It's bizzare. Anyone?
The numbers are creeping back up, and I don't like it. I refuse to go back. What am I doing wrong? How can I stop from going back?
I'm totally stressed and pressed for time. I'm running out of money for the more expensive healthier foods. I'm not getting enough sleep from doing homework into the night. I don't want to go back, but can't find my way forward.
Dear ashliebelle, Healthy food doesn't have to be expensive. Veggies are readly avaliable and cheap, chicken breast, turkey and other healthy meats.
If you don't have the time prepare ahead on weekends when you probably do. Pop a chicken breast in the oven, leave it there for 20 minutes, go study or whatever, come back and its ready. Add salad and a low fat dressing and thats a meal!.
Don't buy the stuff that you know is high in cals and fat!
You've lost almost 17 lbs, only 7 left to go, please don't give up now!!
I think what you are after is some sort of comfort because you are so stressed. Your mind is telling you food will do it - and it will but its not a good plan to go with that!
My advice is to deal with your stress and the 'hunger' will go away. Try meditation, for example, 5 mins a day might chill you out a bit.
I second that...get the stress under control! I sounds like you are way stressed out! Meditate, yoga, even a quiet walk, hot bath..will help. I bet your problem will so away at that point.
ashliebelle, I know where you're coming from. The weight that I'm trying to lose is weight that I packed on during a very stressful and busy three-year graduate program. I'm impressed that you have managed to lose while in school. What is your major? Are you in finals right now?

I doubt she has any more time on weekends. If her workload is anything like mine was, she is probably even busier on weekends trying to get caught up.

The techniques mentioned are definitely good, but I don't think they will cause the problems to go away. They may help her manage her reaction, but the problems of no time and no money will remain.
I agree that wanting to eat is just a reaction to the stress. If you have time, please try some of the techniques mentioned. They are likely to relax you and perhaps you won't feel the urge to eat. Hopefully this is a temporary, end-of-semester thing and you can take stock and get back on track in a few weeks.
I'm still a month out from the end of our quarter (yeah, UC sucks... we end so much later than everyone else!) I'm in design. No reading, no tests, nothing to memorize. Just time consuming projects. And they're never done... not like a math problem that you can just say "well, there's the answer!" I've spent the night in my studio twice already this quarter, and we're only just passed midterms.
I agree it's from stress - and I think what's freaking me out most is knowing there's still a month of this to go and also knowing that I'll be headed for LA at the end of it, and I want to look killer in a swimsuit. At this rate, I feel like there's no time for the gym and too much food in my belly.
Whew... okay... I can do this... I just need to calm the heck down and tell the guy who sits next to me to stop giving me his candy and cheesy goldfish :-D

Gosh. Don't have much advice. Good luck to you though. I can kind of empathize, because I start my undergrad next year, and i know i need to drop this weight before i go because if i don't it will only get worse! AND i will only continue my horrible ways. It is really hard to continue to do well when stressed to the max!
