I think poping your own fat free popcorn was a good idea. I know the smell of popcorn always gets me craving some. It's one of those kinds of food.

Yes but in most places it is against their rules to take in your own stuff. A few years ago I actually heard of where some movie theater had had someone arrested for it... I don't quite get that since wouldn't it have to be against the law so not sure; I just remember reading it. But in any case, they could easily kick you out if they caught you. They don't want you bringing in your own food.

Purses and pockets! In the summer, I normally carry a cardigan to the movies (because I hate too much AC). I just slip the snack into my rolled up cardigan. I have never had an issue with taking food into the movies!

I'm with Ms. Crockett.

I always eat before I go. A delicious something healthy meal. But I also make sure I have water with me in the theatre.

Come to think of it.. I always have water no matter where I am. :)

At home it is a little different. When watching movies sometimes we have nothing and sometimes we have a variety of this or that... fresh cut fruit, squid with hot sauce, etc....and occassionaly but not usually popcorn. Air popped with olive oil spray.

I can control my eating habits easily at home when watching movies because I can SEE what I am eating and because we have choices. Also sometimes we talk during the movie.. pause, rewind, take a break... If we don't finish something I can easily wrap and put in the frig.

It seems to me that a lot of people eating in theatres are finished with a large bucket of popcorn in no time flat. I wonder if they eat it so quickly because they can't see it and don't even realize that they are eating... also their mouth is not usually engaged in talking or even laughing out loud for fear of bothering others. I know that I used to finish a bucket just because I bought it.. its so expensive..

Water.. its enough for me in the theatre.

Me neither. Honestly, if you have the stuff in your purse... are they going to search you? If you have a bag of candy in the auditorium, is anyone going to think "Oh man, they snuck that in!". Probably not.

Glory87 04-29-2006 10:15 PM

Heck, ushers don't even come through the theatre to make sure rude people aren't yapping during the movie, much less searching around in the dark to see what people are nibbling on!

jillybean720 04-29-2006 10:25 PM

Yeah, you're technically not supposed to bring in any outside food or drink, but it's really easy to do it anyway. I worked in a movie theater for a few years, and I can tell you right now that aside from management, 99% of the regular worker-ant employees won't even care :p The only thing we really cared about was when teens would come in and then let their friends in through the fire exit doors with cases of beer :o Yeah, they would get kicked out and probably threatened with a call to the police, but the police were never really called.

I don't eat anything at the movies anymore. I sometimes bring in cans of diet soda in my purse, and if I absolutely must have candy (which is VERY rarely nowadays), I buy it at Target where it's like 2-3 packs for $1 rather than $4 for a single bag of Reese's pieces at the theater :dizzy:

And yeah, the popcorn, even without added butter, is horrible! It's generally popped in some nasty, yellow oil, and there's usually already salt added during popping (a big scoop of yellow salt to give the popcorn that nice yellowish color), so any additional salt added is actually extra. And the "butter?" HA! All I have to say is that anything that doesn't even have to refrigerated after opening is NOT actually butter--it's just more butter-flavored oil

Order a kid's size popcorn

Misti in Seattle 04-29-2006 11:03 PM

Well I am searching <G> and I just read that it is actually illegal in Colorado and other states to do it. And I can't find the article but there WERE people actually arrested for it a few years ago! I kid you not LOL.

And yah I have sneaked stuff in too. :)

FeistyRoo 04-29-2006 11:11 PM

I had always sneaked my own treats inside. I would never touch their popcorn, come to think of it their popcorn is a huge turn off for me.

I have sneaked in a little bag of almonds
a Luna bar
box of rasins
My own season chex mix.

Nope you don't supose to be sneaking food in but my goodness I am not eating what they sell. The only thing I do buy time to time is something to drink. That is it.

Misti in Seattle 04-29-2006 11:19 PM

LOL well if she goes to jail at least she will lose weight from eating nothing but prison food! LOL I would love to find that news story about the arrest. I remember how ridiculous everyone thought it was. Probably too old to be found now though LOL

MtaTJac 04-29-2006 11:42 PM

Interesting that it's illegal in Colorado (I just moved from there  )

I know in our town that the theaters are all locally owned... and my father in law is friends with the owner so under some bizarro reasoning that I'd have gotten caught I could have probably gotten out of it

I took some popcorn and a 100 calorie snack pack in the end! But I didn't even touch it! So it was no big deal at all ;)

Arrested? You got to be kidding? I figure the worse they could do is kick you out of the theater. :s:

Misti in Seattle 04-30-2006 12:24 AM

No I swear it! There was someone arrested a few years ago. I remember because we were all talking about how stupid it was.

And LOL about Colorado... I don't know for a fact that it is; I just saw that on a message board but couldn't find actual verification.

And yay Mta... glad you made it! As you can see you gave us an interesting discussion while you were gone LOL

almost there 04-30-2006 12:29 AM
