|
That great amount to lose...Nice and slow. You will keep it off longer....
What you doing to lose? How long have you been at it? |
i'm pretty much just counting calories and trying to eat healthier and trying to only eat when i am hunrgy, not when something just looks yummy. and i just started a week ago, but i lost about 3lbs so far. i started at 130 and this morning i was 125.5 but this afternoon i was 127. what about you?
|
|

Some days I can gain 6 pounds. Just depends what you eat and drink and your body bloats - it sucks, but it is normal :)
|

|
mmm i have lately been eating well breakfast(carnation instant breakfast) is 220, lunch(apple) is 74, and dinner is chicken or fish usually and thats like between like 60 and like 200 so about 500 or so, but it varies occassionally i have a little snack or something though and all i drink besides my carnation instant breakfast in the morning is water.
|
You really really have to eat more then 500 calories a day!!

I’ve lost about 30 lbs in 30 weeks, but it’s been far from an even pound a week rate. My body tends to hold at a weight for a couple weeks and let things go in spurts. |
I agree. You HAVE to eat more than that a day. 1200 is the minimum. If you don't eat enough then you won't be giving your body enough fuel to function everyday. It's like trying to drive 200 miles on one gallon of gas. Not going to work.
I want you to be healthy in your weightloss and in everyday life. I've been eating around 1300-1500 calories a day and have been losing an average of 1-2 lbs a week. Your weight loss might be slower, but you will be alot healthier because of it. Wishing you the best. |
I once went on a crash diet, and then gained it all back. Don't eat fewer than 1200!
To answer your question... 30 lbs. in two and a half years. Yeah, if I ate 1200 calories a day, I'd be done by now. But I would have gained it all back, too. |
I started much higher than most of you. I've lost 78 pounds in 9 months.
I calorie count, currently eat 1800-1900 calories a day and exercise an average of 30 min a day. I also have a long way to go. I regularly lose 1-2 pounds/week. It was more at the beginning. |
Ive lost about 29 pounds took me three and a half months just about
Lost about 2 pounds a week at first, now its about 1 pound a week. I eat about 1200-1400 cal. a day and exercise about 2 hours everyday. |
Yup - 500 is WAY too low (i think the 5 year old I look after needs more than that!). It's true that you will lose, but it'll wreak havoc with your body and it's really, really unhealthy - I've been there. It's a really bad mindset to get into, and there's absolutely no way you can get the nutrition your body needs out of 500 caolries a day. The problem is that your body will go into starvation mode, storing fat. This means it'll burn anything, including muscle, before fat, because in a survival situation fat is the thing that'll keep you alive the longest. It serisouly messes up your metabolism, too. And if you start eating normally again once you reach your goal you'll shoot right back up, because you'll have trained your body to think it might have to go for long periods without food, so it'll start storing what you eat as fat again. Even as a sedentary person you'd need about 1200 calories a day to maintain 110 lbs. I'd definitely re-think what you're eating, maybe talk to a nutritionist to help you come up with a reasonable eating plan. I just don't want you to get sick - we're all about losing weight in a healthy, maintainable way, even if that means it takes awhile.
I've lost 22 pounds in four months (a little over a pound a week), which has at times felt agonizingly slow - but it hasn't been difficult to keep losing, so I'm happy with it. |
I honestly think there's been an increased in wannabe-pathetically-thin teenage girl users here. I mean seriously, why would anyone want to eat so little? Food is great! I can survive on 700 calories each day without my stomach even bothering me but why would I? Even if I had NO apetite at all I would make the effort to eat at least 1300. It's funny, because the more calories I miss each week, the likelihood that a binge day will hit m in the near future increases.... that just tells me that the body eventually gets you back for all the calories youve unrightfully deprived it of.

I have been working on my fitness for the last 23 months. In that time, I have lost 291 pounds.

I have a feeling that some users will attack the starvation mode theory, but sierra ttw is absolutely right ("Starvation mode" is a term used by biochemists indicating the alternate pathways of metabolism in which the body digests any available source of its preferred food, stored skeletal muscle glycogen rather than proceeding with fatty acid metabolism; this is NOT the same "starvation mode" people dispute about here!) Eventually, when you intake less of your basal metabolic allowance, your body will have to find some other carbohydrate source. I hope you love your organs enough to eat more than 500 calories a day, young lady. Because I had a friend with damaged heart tissue due to prolonged starvation and glycogen depletion. |
If you only eat 500 calories a day your body is going to starve itself and hang on to all your fat. You will not lose weight that way. You need to eat at least 1200 cal a day. How much do you weight by the way? How much are you trying to lose? We just want you to do this healthy.
I started my weight loss Jan 6th this year. I've lost 42 pounds by cutting calories and exercising 5 days a week. I have lost about 1-4 pounds a week depending on the week. |
I have to echo the whole.. 500 cals a day is absolutely insane! And yes the "starvation mode" its not psychobabble. It happens. You may lose "weight" but you wont lose fat. Then you will be 110lbs of bones and flab. Thats not sexy in a bikini at all. In my opinion 1200cals is way to low. Sometimes I dont get the calories I should, but I try to make up for it the next day. You may not be that hungry but you should sneak in some nuts, peanut butter with your apple, olive oil on your salad.. ect. Small things that make a huge difference.
I have 1c oatmeal in the mornings ( thats uncooked, Im sure its like 2 cups after its cooked) with a 1/2 of raisins and a tbsp of smart balance light and 2 teaspoons of honey. So my breakfast in itself is almost 600 calories. Its the meal that has the highest amount of calories for the day.. I eat a little less at lunch, and then a little less or about the same at dinner. I stay satisfied, I dont have any cravings, Im getting my calories.. and I lose weight. Everyone is happy! Eatting like you do, makes me scared of you falling into anorexia or bulemia. Dont set yourself up for an eatting disorder. Skinny doesnt equate beauty.. if you are unhealthy on the inside it will show on the outside. |

I myself have a hard time making myself eat that much a day, whenever I get a little hungry I grab some healthy food like fruit or a lean slice of meat to keep my body feeling fine untill Lunch or Dinner. Or if I'm craving chips I get some pretz sticks instead. But anyway, instead of thinking of it as eating too many calories, eat something really healthy that is good for you. I'm sure you will feel better about eating something healthy while maintaining a good number of calories. I know I would feel okay eating a fruit bowl and adding 300 calories to my daily intake than I would eating a couple slices of pizza.. it's easier to get it in if you think of it that way. |
My record so far:
This is my weigh in day and the number of weeks on program in () 3/22 (01) 9lbs gone -- this week was detox 3/29 (02) 6 lbs gone 4/05 (03) 1 lb gone 4/12 (04) 3 lbs gone 4/19 (05) 4 lbs gone so far a total of 23. I do not count calories. I am on Atkins, measure my food and do LOTS of exercises in the morning. I also only weigh in the mornings as anything you eat adds the weight of the food in your body up to 3 hours (my nutrionalist told me this). :lifter: |

No, no , no.... pathetically THIN doesn't mean the chick's PATHETIC. Pathetically thin is my way of saying, the girl's really really thin. 90lbs 15 lbs underweight for a 5'3 girl. I know, I was once 90 lbs! |
I just got a FitDay account and I really feel that it will help. I registered my weight goals and found that I have to lose 1.27 pounds a week to reach my goal by December. It sounds alot easier to say 1.27 pounds than to say 45 pounds! Listen to your body, eat when you're hungry, stop when you're satisfied.
|
I have been trying to eat more today and so far i have had, for breakfast carnation instant breakfast-220, for lunch some cheesy crackers with peanut butter in the middle-220, and yoplait whips yogurt-140, so a total of 580 calories so far.

this morning i weighed 124, and i want to go down to anywhere between 100 and 110. |
anonymous girl -- How old are you, how tall are you? Is 100-110 even a reasonable goal for you? It sounds very low.
|
5'3" and 100-110 i think is a reasonable goal for me. i am built very small. and i was less than that only a year ago so i wouldnt look too thin being that weight. and i want to reach 110 by july, thats 3 months so losing 14lbs in that time i do not think is unreasonable.
|
at 5'3 100 pounds is consider underweight meaning unhealthy.
http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/...calculator.htm You may find losing 14 pounds in 3 months hard. Becuase you are already at a healthy weight for your height your body has a harder time losing weight. Because I am so overweight, my body has no trouble losing 14 pounds in one month. You may be able to do it but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure you do it in a HEALTHY way! |
oh i do want to lose it in a healthy way. i am trying to eat only when i am hungry instead of just out of habit and trying to eat more fruits and vegatables instead of junk food
|
And nobody will be surprized that I pop in and recommend protein and weight lifting :D
|
anonymous girl - I think what wyllen meant by "reasonable" was is it healthy...not "can you lose 14 pounds by July". I'm sorry, but I've seen several of your posts on here lately, and I think your problems with your weight are much deeper than just the physical side. It's sad that we have these twiggy celebrities as "role models" so to speak, because that makes us younger girls think we should look like they do. I'm not perfect in any way, and I admit to sometimes wishing I looked like Lindsay Lohan or Eva Longoria, but I also have to realize that that's not attainable, and not healthy either. These celebrities are PAID to be skinny...it's basically their JOB. If they're not skinny, they don't have work.
I'm not saying you look up to people like that, but all the media these days are pressuring girls into thinking they need to be skinny. And certainly at 5'3", you already are pretty skinny. I saw on your other post you're a size 2?? I just don't understand how you can look in a mirror and think you need to lose weight. It's sad to me. :( I gave you advice in another thread to maybe start working out (lifting weights, etc.) so that you could maybe tone up if you want to look better. I also think maybe you should deal with any issues you may have had while you had your eating disorder, because those issues are not gone. I highly recommend going to a nutritionist and asking for advice. I'm by no means an expert, but you NEED to GO to an expert, because your thinking right now is NOT healthy. I'm sorry if anything I said upset you...but I'm just concerned about you. You do NOT need to be 100 pounds to feel good about yourself. I promise you, you WILL NOT look good at 100 pounds...you'll look sick and weak. Just my opinion...take it or leave it... |
I wanna be skinny... well not even skinny I just want to be at a healthy weight but still nice and curvy and bit a 'chubby' cuz I think thats sooo cute! haha
|

i just posted on there, thanks

I think SusanB has the right idea - weightlifting at 124 would just be about perfect for you. You may not lose much more weight, but it will look like it because you'll be toned up. Weightlifting will also help your bones. So many systems on your body would and will thank you, especially when you get to my age, from the benefits of weightlifting. Having and developing strong bones at a young is vitally important, and with a good, healthy diet as your starting point, your bones will last a long long time. You only have one chance to get it right because after about 25 your bone density won't increase anymore, and the best you'll be able to do is to prevent loss.

Good luck sweetie - stay smart, read as much as you can on nutrition - you'll find a lot of them say pretty much the same thing in the long run. Use your good common sense in making appropriate choices in food and don't look at the scale so much. You also may want to check in at your local university to see if they have a body composition lab available to you. They will test you and will tell you what your lean body mass is, and what your total fat weight it. It will help you decide what is truly a healthy weight for you. Stay healthy - you only have one body! |
I agree hun, you need to get some help and make sure you are keeping your body healthy. Also from Pamela Peek's Body For life (love that book! ;) ) :
Because women in Milestone 1 (post puberty, prior to having first child) tend to connect their looks with their self-worth, they are particularly vulnerable to eating disorders. In one 1995 study, it was found that 35% of normal dieters progressed to pathological dieting. So just please be very careful. When I was in high school I did what you are doing. I skipped breakfast, ate 3 crackers for lunch and only ate what I had to to not have questions asked at dinner. I used to think I would die if I was over 125. Now I am clinically obese and I think my metabolism is just now recovering, getting used to normal sized meals. Don't let it get that far. |
