Hello ann.
Well we are in the middle of summer here and its sooo hot here. 4 inches of snow, how lovely. Build me a snowman please!!! I need to lose lots of weight and looking for some new friends, thanx for answerring. |
Hi Aussigal, I'm another aussie girl, and have been a member here for ages. It sounds like you're doing really well so far - 24 kilos down! Woo hoo!
If you would like to be a buddy, I can either catch up with you here, or you're welcome to join me in my thread in the Support Groups, called "The Challenge to begin again". Right now, you've got almost the same weight to lose, so maybe we can help each other! I've got 2 kids and recently widowed...... Catcha soon! |
Hello from Perth!!!
Hello from Perth  . I’m 48, married with 4 kids. I am a stay at home mum but we have our own business and sometimes I get called in which I do enjoy. I’m on optifast at the moment and am very pleased with my weight loss – but it is harder that other diets I’ve done. The hardest times ahead – transition, when I have to move back into food. I have found forums like this very supportive and helpful and it is great to have others who understand what you are going through.
You have lost a fantastic amount of weight! Whats your secret? How long did it take you? :goodluck: Bev |
Hi everyone.
Thankyou for the replies. I have msn and would like to get to know you all and if you wanna chat buddy please message me with your nic name and I will add you. The more the merrier and maybe and just maybe we can help and support one another!!!! |
Good morning all!
Bev, what is Optifast? I haven't heard of that one. Aussiegal, I haven't got access to MSN yet, but am happy to keep in touch here. Support would be good right now. It's always hard to get started! I might be off line until Tuesday of next week, but look forward to hearing how you all went on the weekend! It's my nephew's 1st birthday on Saturday arvo, so I have to make sure I stay away from too many nibbles! I'm planning on making it back to the gym tomorrow - haven't been much since Christmas. Take care. |
Hi Lyn! Optifast is a liquid diet programme that is very popular in America and more recently Australia. It is for the severely overweight – obese and is a 23 week programme starting with a 12 week of shakes, veggies and water intensive phase followed by and 11 week gradual re- feed. It is approved by the medical profession to be used under medical supervision – though it is available over the counter in Aus. It is fairly harsh at first but I’m in my sixth week and feeling fine :cb: . Weight loss is fast but re-feed phase and is essential. I’m planning on low carb for re-feed and long term maintenance.
Aussiegal – No MSN either but happy to post here also. Love to know everyone’s plan of attach with there weight loss. Bev |
Hi all
Bev, that program sounds full on! I know I wouldn't be able to do it, so I commend you for sticking with it! I'm doing my own thing, but loosely based on WW, which I did a couple of years ago. I'm focussing on trying to increase my exercise, eat well balanced meals and stay away from the junk food! I weighed in on Saturday, and have lost my first 1.1 kg! Was hoping for more, but I did eat pizza with the kids on Friday night, so that would not have helped! Catcha later! |
hey aussie gal, I'm Prue, 27 Brisbane Queensland, married a 1year old daughter and stay at home mother. I'd like to buddy up with you girls too. You have done so well so far, you ought to be so proud of yourself!!! After the birth of my second child (my first a boy Gabriel born 2002 had health problems and isn't with us) I weighed 107kg, I went from 63kg to 105kg in one pregnancy, mainly becuase I just gorged on anything and everything I could find, I wasn't even really showing until 5months and the doctors told me my son was small so I started to pack it on, they have since told me I could not have fattyened him If i tried ha ha, with me second pregnancy I weighed 85kg at the beginning and went to 107kg, so the gain wasn't as big but I had a normal healthy pregnancy with Poppy. I have mainly been just slowly and steadily dropping weight, but recently gone on a 1200-1400 cal program and dropped about 4.5kg-5kg in 3 weeks and I am so proud of myself. I can see the difference in the mirror when I walk by and I get butterfiles in anticipation. Support is one of the main things that keep people going with anything they want to achieve in life, and when people notice you it makes you want to keep on trying, let's all notice each other!!!

Hi Prue, I had the same weight gain issues with my first - I went from 86kg to 110kg. However, with my second, I must have lost weight, because I practically stayed at 110kg the whole time - thank god! Sorry to hear about your son. I'm glad to hear you have a healthy little girl. I've got an 8 year old boy and 2 year old girl.
How’s this for a good way to diet – go to the dentist and get root canal treatment!!! I went in to get a filling on one tooth, but another one has been killing me the last couple of days, and it was one that I had a filling on about 2 months ago. Well, he assessed the damage, and said, sorry, it’s either gotta come out, or it’s root canal! Far out man, $500 later!!! He had to give me 3 local anaesthetics in the end, so he could get the filling out. I was so tempted to say, well seeing as how the filling didn’t work, can I have my money back!!!??? Anyway, he suggested I don’t eat on that side of my mouth for a couple of hours, and since I can’t feel anything, it’s best I don’t at all! So I haven’t had anything since breakfast, which I didn’t have much of because of my sore tooth (my favourite Just Right Meusli too!), and now it’s 1pm and I’m STARVING. I’ve just heated up a little quiche, and I’m nibbling on that... CAREFULLY! I’m having that with a cup of low fat noodle soup, and then I’ll have my low fat banana yoghurt…. I reckon I’ve lost some weight here – my 2 skirts that I’ve worn to work yesterday and today are DEFINITELY feeling looser around the waist. I LOVE it! :D I didn’t manage to get on my bike last night because I had such a bad headache cos of the toothache, but did do 15 minutes the night before, and will definitely get on again tonight. I’m trying to toughen up my butt so I can last longer!!! :o See you tomorrow! |
Hey girls, hi Lynne, omg are you ok? sounds painful!!! but if you can lose then that's a positive out of it for you :) does anyone obsessively bake when they are dieting? I can't stop I think it's some how theraputic for me and if I can't eat it, I want everyone else to be able to, talk about living through other people LOL, I have just finished baking some ooh wait I won't say it I just realised reading about food makes me hungry so that's a bad idea. Let's just say my freezer is bulging with stuff and I am running out of people to have for afternoon tea ha ha. My hubby isn't really a sweet tooth either, oh well it's helping to build my will power so I won't stop. When I am cooking I am never tempted to eat it it's bizarre!! How is everyone going? I thought of some tips the other day for when you are feeling hungry at night, and don't want to cheat. A cup of hot tea always works for me, I find it satisfies my hunger but next to no cals and then I get online and read the posts and before you no it it's bed time, when I am watching tv I get hungry, probably doesn't help that every other add is for a flame grilled whopper ha ha. When do you all weigh in? I usually do it on Mondays but I was tempted on wednesday and lost another kilo so I changed my ticker, I am not doing any exercise at the moment I really should be, but it makes me soooooo hungry when I go on my hour walk every day, I will start soon, hopefully I would have lost some more and I won't need all the extra cals. I am running after my babes all day too so that burns cals i guess. OK take care everyone :)
|
Yep – my oven is running hot and my kids are loving me for it. Not sure what it is doing to there waist lines but I always do this when dieting. This time it’s cakes and biscuits which is a bit strange as I was never into sweet things in the past – I am more of a savoury person. Would love to understand the psychology behind it.
Weigh in tomorrow morning - fingers crossed. :crossed: Bev |
Hey guys.
I definetly wanna get to know you all!
I am so sure we can keep each other on track!!! Lets hope we can keep in touch!! How do you suppose we keep in touch? I have msn!! Pm me if you want my details!!!! Please,we all need the support!!! |
I don’t need support – I’m here to boast!!!! :cb: Weigh in this morning and another 1.5kgs gone for good. :cheer: Not bad seeing I had a bad week with my diet. I’m happy!!!! :D
Aussiegal – My kids chat on MSN so I will put it on my computer with their help and let you know when I’m up and running. Bev |
Hey Bev.
That will be great! Looking forward to getting to no you . |
WAY TO GO BEE JAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HHAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWw!!!!!! I have this weird cold at the moment, and I have noticed my wedding band and other rings are so tight on my fingers, got on the scales and it said a gain of 1kg, (2.2bl)which cannot be right considering I have stuck to my diet, I am thinking fluid retention what do you think?
|
Definitely – you may have unknowingly increased you sodium levels. Actually Cough medicine and any thing with an antihistamine in it makes me retain a bit of fluid. It could also be those darn hormones - what ever I’m sure it will be gone in a day or two just watch your sodium intake.
Cheers Bev |
Thanks matey :) hey we are the same weight you know. I'm drinking the green tea now to try and get rid of the fluid, heard it can work.
|
HI guys!
Well, I'm trying not to feel too depressed about the small amount I lost last week - a loss is a loss is a loss! But was hoping for more I must admit. I'm trying to figure out where I went wrong and work harder this week. I KNOW I'm not exercising enough. I finally got out and went for a walk yesterday! Yayaaaaayyyyyy!!! Woo HOOO to Bee Jay on your loss! That's so COOL!  Hey, Wantmybodyback, (what a mouthful! ), fluid retention can be lots of things and it will pass. Keep up the water intake, that helps heaps. I'm off to New Zealand next week to visit my husband's family. I'm planning on getting lots of walks in cos my parents are going too, so will have lots of babysitters! hee hee It'd be great if I could come back LESS that when I went away! Catch'all tomorrow! |
Hey girls LOL Lynne!! just call me prue I know it's a mouth ful and to think the name i really wanted wouldn't even fit into the designated space ha ha ha :) well a loss is a loss! I didn't lose any this week I gained it's not real weight but it made me feel like crap, maybe I will see a big lossd after AF that is usually when all me fluid goes so fingers crossed! Aussiegal sorry about this am, I got booted off and then when I logged back on you were gone then Poppy (my baby) woke up so I just had to log off, but it was great to chat even if it was brief we should get together and do it more often, and I would love you to send me those recipes too :) as we were saying this am my hubby is not at all into low fat food and was brought up on food like lasagne, creamy bacon pasta, sheperds pie with wqait for it CHEESE!!! we never put cheese on ours and his mum used to add cream to the salad dressing!!!! so now I have a husband with big fat taste buds for big fat food, and doesn't gain weight aarggggggghhhhhhhhhhh, after my healthy choice episode last night (for those who don't know there was a weird little stick thing in my meal last night probably a lemon grass stalk but kind of strange considering their wasn't any lemon grass in the ingredients hmmm) I went looking for something new and different and stumbled on findus fish dinners, they are yummmm 250cal and about $2.50 cheaper than lean cuisine or healthy choice, tonight I had coriander and lemon fish, with risotto, asparagus, mushrooms and a salad yummmmm, I always make a salad or veges to go with whatever I have made. When i get some low fat recipes under my belt, I can cook portion freeze and reheat when I want dinner which will be easy considering I will still be cooking dh's dinner.
|
oh btw Lynne have fun in New Zealand you lucky thing you!!!!!
|
Hey Prue
Well you are forgivened about this morning!!!
I will get those recipes off to you tomorrow! Was really great to chat today with you. Maybe we can arrange a regular chat!!!! Would like to get to know yourself and others here too!!! We are all in the same boat, and the support would do us all good.,I know i could sure use the support!!! Keep up the good work hon......................and remember we can do this!!! |
Lynn – I have a soft spot for NZ. My brother lives in Tauranga in the north island. Actually my three brothers all married NZers which is amazing considering we are 6th generation Perthites. I hope you have a lovely time. Make the most of the baby sitters and have fun. :cb: I’m sure if you stay away form those bad Carbs you will fine. You can jump back into it when you return.
Prue and Aussie – Because I’m on Optifast I still cook the same food I always have for the family and I have been very good – not picking or tasting – I don’t think you can absorb calories by breathing in the fumes. I have warned them when I hit transition I will only be cooking low carb/low fat food and the look of terror on their faces was a picture. But I am getting prepared and have found a couple of Mini- Womans Weekly cook books while waiting at the check out at woollies. They are $4-5 (?) each and have the Cal count of each meal. The ones I have are “Light & Lean”, “Low-Fat Food” from the Healthy Eating range and “Simply Seafood” has some great recipes with Cal count also. The recipes look yummy and simple. Bev |
I picked up the Simply Seafood at the local charity shop the other day, no mean feat seeing as the charity shop is in England and the book is from Australia!!!! I find the varieties of fish here a bit confusing. I miss flake, blue-eye, flat head etc. It's all so different here, so I normally stick to tuna, salmon, swordfish and cod. I understand them!!! And I eat smoked mackerel.
Yuo are all doing so well, it's nice to have an Aussie thread. I have been in England three years now, and I really miss Australia. I do more exercise over here though, strange that really!! I swim three times a week here and struggled to do three times a month in Australia. I am so glad you cant inhale calories, I walked passed our fish and chip shop very slowly this morning, breathing in the fumes of the fat!!!! I suspect they still cook fish in lard here!!!!!! LOL |
Glad you walked passed Kylie!!!
Was great to have a chat with you, look forward to supporting 1 another in the future! All I have to say is AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OI OI OI. Hope that made you smile!!! :D :dizzy: :dizzy: :dizzy: |
Hi all!
Prue, I know what you mean about the weight gain - even though you know it's for a reason, and you'll see it come off later, it's hard not to be let down. That's how I felt about last week's weigh in. My husband was like your husband - able to eat custard berliners, oodles of cheese and anything else he fancied, and not a kilo extra in sight!! It was SO frustrating. To his credit, he was happy to fit in with healthier meals, but if I was feeling low and felt like something fatty, like pizza, he was happy to go along with that, which was a bummer in some ways - I needed a health nut who'd say "no, Lynne, you DON'T need that extra piece!" I'm sort of looking forward to my trip to NZ, but feel wierd about going without Marc. How old's your Poppy? Bev, Marc was from Auckland, and it was really nice seeing a bit of it when we went over there for our honeymoon. It's certainly a beautiful country. Marc used to be amazed at the size of Aust in comparison - the time it takes to travel most of the North Island is about how long it takes to get from Adelaide to Melbourne! Those little recipe books are great - I've picked up a couple myself in time. I must get them out again.... Hi Kykaree, glad to see you. Have you had the chance to come back since going? Some good friends of mine lived there recently for about 18 months, and were having a ball jumping in and out of different countries on their weekends! I remember when I was about 7 my family went to England (my parents are from there) and we got fish and chips - served in the traditional newspaper wrapping! It's funny how your tastebuds change. I used to HATE alfafa sprouts, until my sister had a sandwich with tuna and alf and I loved it! Now, I have them on almost every sandwich I have! Today was Helga's Classic Seed bread (yum!) with fresh ham, tomato and alf. I also had a cup of soup - you can buy these cool asian varieties, like Chicken Laksa now, and I just keep sachets in my drawer at work. Have a great night! |
I came back for two weeks about this time last year. It was great. I feel ready to come back again, but we are having a holiday in Greece this year instead!!!!!! I'm already planning how to avoid danger food in Greece!!!!! And we're not going until September!!!!
I miss Australian bread, I used to have such a bread problem, but I don't like it here. It's sweeter, and sort of doughier and you don't get the variety of bread here either. So that's a good thing!!!! I'm up early to go for my swim before work, I do this on two work days a week, I love my swimming. |
damn it I had a really long post typed out and I accidentally pressed esc and have lost the lot!! oh well time limit now Poppy is going to wake up soon (she's one Lynne) I was aying in my post in a more enthralling and interesting way that I fit into this size 14 just jeans skirt now that I used to wear and the other day I went into valley girl becuase they were having a sale and fit into a size 14 dress and a large top omg this is fabulous!!!! still no loss but 79kilos is so close I can taste it come on 70's!!!!!!!! Has anyone seen those chocolate chip hot cross buns? I bought a doz for my hubby's lunch boxes becuase I couldn't have one myself and really wanted one LOL it seems to work living through him ha ha but what if at the end when I reach goal I am lovely and slim and he's chubby he he he......well that would take a LOT of eating on his behalf but anything is possible right LOL. Took Poppy to the museum yesterday and she chucked a tantrum!!!! she is 1 she threw herself on the floor!!! LOL I was stunned becuase I wasn't prepared for that until 2 omg my baby is growing up so fast! so she had to stay in the pram for the rest of the trip. Kylie I have a friend in England who became very fond of the chip booty's that is my absolute weakness hot chips!! when we used to get fish and chips I would just eat the chips!!! good job on just walking past every time we do not give in to temptation it makes us stronger and empowers us a little more, I say to myself when I am tempted
NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS FEELING THIN and it is soooooooo true!! I would love to go to N.Z Lynne sounds beautiful, I think you'll be just fine over there. I am going to buy the womens weekly simply slim book I love those cook books they are so simple and use such beautiful ingredients in their recipes, I have been eyeing off for weeks at the grocery store so this shop I will buy it!! ok take care girls xx prudy |
My gym instructor wants me to go on maintenance for a week, now I have lost 10 kilos, to keep up with the exercise, but have a week of relaxation from the diet, so I am doing that over Easter. I am going to have one meal of fish and chips and I am going to enjoy every last mouthful!!!!
I went for a swim this morning, the pool was quite crowded this morning, our pool is tiny here, it's so unfair, and they don't rope it at all, so it's a free for all!!! If anyone told me two month ago that I would be swimming three times a week, I would have laughed in their face!!!! I do miss Australian swimming pools. Oh and walking in the snow to the pool.........not fun!!!! Chocolate chip hot cross buns...........was just thinking about them the other day, and the ones with dried blueberries in them, yum!!! Another thing we don't get here. I usually make my own, but baking is another thing I have had to give up, seeing as there is only the two of us. Most of it ends up on my hips and thighs!!! |
Don't do it!!
Oh! I hate the thought of you eating fish and chips as part of your maintenance week. Please don’t undo the good you have done. Speaking for myself - If I had a dose of fish and chip now that would be the end of me. The same with every non diet food I am temped to taste. It has happened a thousand times before – a taste here and there – then a piece – then … so on. I beleive we chould be trying to change our whole way of eating. Psychologically I want to see certain foods as poison to my body – a bit extreme may be – but I want to have that mind set – that certain foods are not on whether on or off a diet. I just don’t want to go back to that fat place again – not ever.
Sorry if I have spoilt your fun but I would hate to see you coming off your maintenance week 1kgs heavier – you have come so far. Bev |
i think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. The "all or nothing" mentality I have had in the past has not worked for me. I am good for ages, lash out and put all the weight on that I've lost. All the reading and research I have done shows that the ability to fit in "unhealthy" foods into a balanced diet is the key to long-term health. My personal trainer (who is a nutritionist) is supervising this, and I am confident that we are doing the right thing for MY body, which may be the wrong thing for yours
On my maintenance week I will continue my three sessions of swimming, and three sessions of cardio and weight training I am very unlikely to gain the weight i have lost. And I will still be eating basically healthy meals, with the odd treat. I think it's really important to find what works for you, and on this site we are all on very different programs. I may not agree with Atkins, Optifast, South beach, whatever but I think it's really important not to judge other peoples weight programs, and to support one another in our journeys. |
Sorry Kykaree - I really didn’t mean to tick you off. I was under the misunderstanding that we were here to help and support each other through our own knowledge and experiences with the purpose of keeping every one on track with there weight loss and certainly didn’t mean to upset you in any way. I promise to bite my tongue in the future however please feel very free to kick my butt as hard as you like if I ever look like straying.
Bev |
Hey big losers LOL that doesn't sound like a compliment some how hey successful weight shifters... better? A bit geeky, G'day shiela's LOL congratulations to you Aussie gal for another kilo down!!! That is excellent ! can't wait to see what the scales say for me after my period and the water retent goes away it is STILL there!!! oh well, today was hard it was raining and I was hungry and pre menstrual and my baby girl had her shots so we had a quiet home day watching nemo together, but gee don't the rainy days make you hungry? anyone? how does everyone cope with pms and lack of chocolate? any hints tips please. I am starting my walking again on monday my route is an hour and I love it so this should set things in faster motion. Have a great week end girls love prudy
|
Finding Nemo would have to be one of my favourite movies – my youngest is 13 and he is like – “Oh Mum, do we have to watch it again?”
I hate weighing in at TOM but I suppose you just have to remember it is a temporary condition and it all balances out in the long run. Rainy days do make me hungry and though it is not raining in Perth the sky is black and there is the sound of thunder in the distance – I think it does something to your mood and energy levels also – so I have ween guzzling water all day – no doubt I will spend a good part of the night on the loo. Easter is coming and I don’t have a plan of attack yet – and I’m lucky I don’t have a big sweet tooth and though I like chocolate I never crave it. My husband and kids have been very supportive and I think they are planning something else instead. I just hope I stay in control. Boy- that water goes right through you – gota go.. Bev |
kykaree-
I don't use an all or nothing mentality either. I eat and exercise very strictly and am a calorie counter, but I do indulge in a bit of chocolate or a slice of pizza now and then. The keys to making it work for me are: ~limiting my portion size of a treat food-like instead of eating a 230 calorie candy bar, I will have 2 Hershey Kisses for 50 calories and suck on them ~Making it a "treat" and not a regular occurance-I don't eat low fat ice cream or unhealthy foods every day-but I know a lot of dieters who do-and think that they are fine eating whatever they want as long as their calories are in the correct range. Most of the time my diet is pretty strict-so it is only a small indulgence once every couple weeks ~Making the indulgence a little healthier if possible-if I have a slice of pizza-making it veggie instead of meat, thin crust instead of pan, etc. so that the caloric value is lower, and the nutritional value is higher while still satisfying the craving I also think that for some all or nothing mentalities-that the problem lies in the "Well, I just ate a piece of cake, so the day is ruined. I may as well eat what I want to the rest of the day and forget my workout" type of thinking. I think if you have a bad incident, leave it at one incident and don't let it spread into the entire day, or week, or month. Just go on like it didn't happen. |
Hey girls, bee jay, aphil, that is some good advice right there. LOL B did you have fun on the loo all night he he. I did end up buying the slim for life womens weekly cookbook, most of the mains recipes are around the 400-500 calorire mark and they serve 4 so I thought if I divide the portions into 5 and see how that goes what do you think? I agree with you aphil, if you add treats into your every day meal plan it isn't a treat anymore and just as long as we all recognize our treats as what they are which let's face it when you have one you damn well know what it is straight away LOL then it is a good thing, I know some people who allow them selves a "cheat" night once a week and while that may work for them if I let myself have one once a week then it would turn into the weekend and so on and so on, I think that is how I got into this mess in the first place I just ate treats every day!!! I stopped recognizing them as treats. We were brought up on very healthy whole foods, and this is how I'm bringing up my daughter, but if she wants a cookie or a peice of cake at a party then she can have it, she will recognize that kind of food as a treat. OK I have to go tend to my dh who now has my cold and thinks he is dieing LOL xx
|
Of course - to maintain a healthy lifestyle requires balance, moderation and exercise. It is also about control and changing the way we look at food. Changing your mind set is saying – “I’m hanging out for fish and chips – how do I deal with this? - I will buy a nice piece of snapper from the markets and grill it with black pepper and lemon and serve it with home made chips baked in the oven with a spray of olive oil and a sprinkle of chippy salt”.
Farewell Chickies! :goodluck: with your weigh loss. Bev |
Hi guys
Interesting debate! Would love to join, but this is just a quick post to say g'day and goodbye, as I'm off to NZ on Tuesday and won't have a chance to get in before I go. I hope you all have a great couple of weeks, and I'll see you all lighter! :D Bye for now! |
