I had a WW leader tell us that sometimes the jump up on the scale isn't from what we ate yesterday or even the day before, it could be from last week. She went on to say we sometimes overeat and our scale doesn't show a gain, so we repeat it, and still see no gain, so we do it again, and then the scale catches up and slams us. Losing is the same, you might fast one day and lose some water but the lbs are from the deficit you made day after day after day a week ago.
If stayin' on plan, isn't working. then you need a new plan. I don't call what I am doing a diet. We usually think of a diet like a bandaid-something we do until the condition is not the same. So we diet, lose, then we go off the diet and the weight comes back and brings friends. A good food plan is sustainable, it doesn't make you feel like you are punishing yourself. You still have to exercise the will to make good choices. If I feel I really want something, I look for a lower calorie/carb alternative and allow myself to have some but I log all my food, I don't guess at quantities, I weigh and measure, I don't guess at calories and carbs, I log every bite. I have 2 simple breakfasts and lunches that i pretty much cycle through every day. dinners are always a lean protein and lots of veggies, once in a while some edamame pasta or shirataki. I do not feel deprived, I don't long to eat things that are not good for my plan.

Ceejay and Ann thank you for the kind thoughts.

My weight, surprisingly, was not too bad today. The likelihood of it being good tomorrow is slim but there is always a chance. I meant to start tracking again today. I haven't and it would have been really misleading. I ate my main meal at 4:40 pm so it would not have been in the tally. Tomorrow at 5:00 pm I will start again.

Today felt really busy. My two biggest walks and my ice skating session were done before noon. Then in the afternoon I went to the rec center. It was necessary to get it before we went to a friend's house for games. And I am just realizing I didn't do my last walk- gotta go...

Last night my last walk, the shortest one, was after midnight but it still counts. I was quite surprised when my husband hauled himself out of bed to join me. As we were walking up the driveway, we could hear coyotes howling in the nearby open space. Today is a day of rest from exercise which always feels nice.

I have a big meeting first thing in the morning that I am in charge of. It is making me a little anxious and I am worried I will have trouble falling asleep. Since I need to be sharp in the morning, I can't take anything to help me sleep. All sleep aids leave me groggy in the morning.

So not a great weekly weigh-in this morning. It seems the best I will be able to do is a maintain this morning despite several weigh-ins promising otherwise.

It's looking like it will either be a small gain this month or a maintain. I need to wait to see what the scale says tomorrow. For today I was on-plan which is fantastic.

Alas, I was over on calories today. Trying to do better for tomorrow.

Ultimately, my weight is up for the month. I have my choice of being up either1.5 or 2 pounds for the year. I also get my choice for how to split it across the January and February. In addition, I may just wait and see how March goes. If it goes well, I'd select the 1.5 pounds for the year (0.5 for January and 1 for February). If it goes poorly, I'd go with 1 pound for each month.

Just a bit disappointed because I put in some hard work. I wasn't perfect but it seemed like it should have been better.

For reference, here's what Jan/Feb of years past looked like.

2019: Jan -0.5/Feb +1.5
2020: Jan +0.5/ Feb -1.5
2021: Jan +1/ Feb +3

I have been doing this for a long time. I wish I were better at it.

The Good- The scale was kinder today. Plus, I have lost 45% of the my excess weight.

The Bad- I was over on calories today and it is not looking good for tomorrow.

The Ugly- I got up to get a diet soda and returned with a box of cookies. What the what?!?

Pipsicle, have you ever tried taking Benadryl when you can't sleep? I am like you, that anything I take for sleep makes me groggy in the morning, but recently I have taken half of a Benedryl and I slept well, no grogginess at all. It is actually an allegry med, but causes drowsiness. I can never take it during the day for allergy symptoms.

Hi Carol- I have tried Benadryl for sleep and it makes me very groggy in the morning. Even on a very low amount, I feel almost like I have a hangover in the morning. It takes me until about 4 pm to really wake up after taking it. It is the same for melatonin and tart cherry juice. I drank a half a cup of tart cherry juice once and I could barely get out of bed in the morning. Also, if I take Benadryl or melatonin more that three days in a row to help me sleep, I start to get bouts of dizziness during the day. The best thing I have found to help me sleep without the grogginess the next day is dramamine. There's not a lot of info though on taking it for sleep so I rarely do that either.

So the box of cookies is gone. The scale and ketone test strips are looking good. None of this makes sense. I already threw my tracking paper away but I am sure I was over on calories. I have this relatively random supplement that I really think was a 2:00 am purchase out of desperation. I tried it when I first got it and didn't really like it. It made my stomach hurt and I had trouble falling asleep. I really only took it a few days. Recently, I gave it another go thinking it would go better if I took earlier in the morning and less often. It still made my stomach hurt but sleep was okay. Honestly, I was thinking it could help with my consistent weekend weight bump up issue.

I couldn't really remember how I picked it, where I read about it, exactly what it is suppose to do and what are the side effects. Generally, I am really careful about which supplements I use and spend a lot of time looking up each ingredient if there is more than one. Apparently, not this one. It has a lot of side effects. That's why I think I bought it late at night in a fit of desperation. It does not pass my typical standard for supplements. I guess I still have an edge of desperation because I am curious to see what happens with my weight this weekend. The side effects are dose dependent and I only took 1/6 of a daily dose. If it seems to support my weight loss effort, I may try to see if a 1/12 of a daily dose once a week works. However more than likely, I will toss the bottle on Sunday.

I started taking Tart Cherry capsules because they help with gout but I never noticed any sleep improvements. Melatonin made me groggy like a drunk. I am afraid of. supplements but I do take a few. Most don't do anything helpful for me.

The scale looked great today but pants are a lot tighter. I am curious to see what the scale says tomorrow. I have restocked my secret weapon so that should help me.

It is suppose to snow tomorrow so I refilled the bird feeders today. We are planning on doing our walks unless it is icy. I also need to go skating and to the rec center tomorrow. They are fairly close so the drives shouldn't be too bad.

Today was a tough day. I had trouble sleeping last night so I took a little Benadryl and as usual, I had extreme grogginess. I woke up late for skating so I only had a short time to skate. It was also at the rink that is more crowded and the ice is in worse condition. In the end, I only skated about half as much as I usually do.

Then after lunch and a nap it was time for the rec center and that was tough as well. About three quarters of the way through, I had to give up on reaching my target heart rate. I was just focused on finishing.

My walks were also very slogging. I finally started to feel awake around 5:30 pm. Hoping for a good day tomorrow.

It was another whatever weigh-in. Weight was higher than it has been all week. I even skipped dinner last night. Geared up to face another week but was off the rails today. I didn't do any tracking ate what I wanted until I felt full. It was wonderful but I wish it wasn't quiet so wonderful. Also, I threw away that supplement. It is nothing I need to be messing with.

I am going to work really hard and will stay on track this week. The progress will still be slow but it is better to be working on it than not

I've seen many people that I haven't seen since I lost thirty pounds. No one has noticed and I get it. It bums me out but I get it. I was so overweight, it isn't noticeable. This next thirty though- there is not way it won't be noticeable. I just have hang in there. I have to be really careful though; the energy seeking behavior is coming back full force.

Well, just trying to roll along. I was trying to eat less in the evening. Today was not the day I started that. If I am careful, I can stay on-track tomorrow.

Although, I have no real complaints, life feels not great at the moment. I am very disappointed by several things. In the grand scheme, they are minor and I wish they wouldn't bug me so much. Time for the serenity prayer. I have trouble with the last part. I don't know the difference. Onward to tomorrow...

Funny story- the universe is looking out for me. I tried to order a sugared pop with dinner. After I ordered, I was wishing I had picked differently. The pop I got was diet- LOL.

Had great day and was on-plan. It is not looking good for tomorrow though and I will be lucky to stay at my maintenance calorie limit.

If I could start to limit how much I eat in the evening, I would be in a much better position. It is tough for me though. One of my cats is on a diet too. She was so hungry, she jumped in the dishwasher to try to scavenge something. The other cat likes to snack all of the time. It seems like she wants to eat six kibbles every twenty minutes. I keep a bowl for her at my desk so I don't have to interrupt my work to get her a snack. It does feel really unfair to the other one but it seems to be working out for the best.
