  • I wear a 12-14 in pants and a small in men's shirts and a large in women's shirts. I weigh 170 pounds. Is that considered. Plus size? A few years ago I read that plus size was anything over 14. I also thought plus size shirts were 1X-5X women's. I'm not sure anymore though.

Technically this is considered plus size. But who cares what "size" clothing is? What matters is how you look and feel. Body shape also matters here, as a pear shape I wear size 16 on the bottom but a medium and sometimes even small in shirts. But I still consider myself plus size. Don't get hung up on clothing sizes, beauty is not one-size fits all.
  • Plus size clothes will have a w or an x - for instance 14 and 14W - the W will be cut more generously in places. No a 12 and a large top are not plus size. If you can buy something from the "regular" department in a store vs the "women's" department - you aren't a plus size.

Tell that to the fashion industry.
  • It used to be 14
Plus sizes used to start at 14. Now they start at 12.
  • Anything that you have to buy in a different "section" or a different store, in a larger size, is probably "plus size". It's kind of an old-fashioned term, in my opinion. Many retailers are moving toward a more inclusive size selection starting from XXS all the way to XXXL. Rickis (Canadian company) and Reitmans are two such chains. These stores know that it's frustrating for a woman to have to buy pants in a "plus sized" store and her tops in a different store. They know that they will make more money if four friends -- a Petite, a Tall, a Plus size, and a traditional size, woman -- can all shop together in the same store. They know that if a "Medium" gains weight and becomes an "Extra-Extra-Large" she will have some brand loyalty if she can stay in the same store. Or if a woman loses a bunch of weight, she can still shop in the same store. Anyway there's my rant for today
  • I know pretty well for the US because I am right on the cusp as a size 14. Yes, size 14 in consider plus for the most part. However, it's a weird gray area with sizes 12-16 considered being the beginning of plus.

As a size 14 I find myself wearing "regular size" L, XL or a plus size 0, 1X, or XXL or whatever they want to call it just fine.
  • We have one department in our town and they rarely have anything at all on their one and only "women's" rack (size 16 through 2X) - located at the back corner of the store next to the restroom. I guess we're supposed to be ashamed.

We do have a Walmart with plus sizes starting at 16 or 18 and usually costing several dollars more than the same thing only smaller.

My concern is that, at 210lbs, I'm currently wearing a snug 2X and no one has anything bigger. Where do women over 200lbs buy their clothes?
  • What I'm finding weird, is that I have G size breasts, and can fit comfortably in a boys L hoodie. The most baggy part is the chest area. To myself though, my breasts look bigger then my stomach, but my mom says my perception is off, and I am not big at all.

Oh dear. There are so many online stores for really great plus size clothing., you never have to step into one of those horrible places again.

  • The definition of plus size has definitely evolved over time and can vary between brands. Generally, plus size in women's fashion starts at size 14 or 1X. However, it's really about finding what fits you best and makes you feel good. You might want to check out curvissa, as they offer a broad range of sizes and could give you a better idea of where you might fit in their sizing chart. Remember, the number on the label doesn't define you!
  • Who cares what size you wear if you look good. I always wore larger sizes than my friends even though everyone said I looked better. Of course, I started losing weight. To have more time for the gym and regular training, I turned to https://canadianwritings.com/ for help with my studies. Now I already look better and wear the same size, although the figure has become much better

Torrid can get you some better quality but unfortunately expensive. I go to Burlington and it's like munchkinland how tiny everything is there but really, the best bet I've found for the over 200 pound woman is online shopping. Amazon clothing selections often go up to 4, 5X. And you can find some good deals there. Can always return if it doesn't fit. Can find cute stuff that comes in full range of sizes.

By the way adding this - it's TOTAL BS that PLUS SIZE technically starts at around 14 and all the "good clothes" only go up to size 12 when I'm pretty sure the average female at least in USA is a freaking size 16!!!! But then again I guess the average person in USA is overweight so it's like the fashion industry is chastising us.

  • Sizes can be confusing and vary by brand. Typically, plus size starts at 14 or 16 in women's clothing, and 1X is often considered plus size. But every woman is gorgerous in her own way
