Scale Addict Anonymous

Hello, My name is Hotsplashes and I'm a scale addict. I like to get on my scale every day. I used to get on my scale several times a day before I joined SAA.

When I get on the scale now...it's first thing in the morning. I take off all my clothes including my skivvies. Make sure I go potty first. Remove all jewellery and hair scrunchies. Then when I take that final step onto the scale, I exhale till it hurts!lolol

Thanks to SAA I now only get on my scale every Thursday. Except when fall off the wagon and maybe sneak in a weigh-in on a monday to see if I gained on the weekend. But those slip ups are rare.

My doctor has diagnosed me with isulin intolerance/resistance and has put me on a low carb diet that seems very much like Atkins and South Beach. I haven't been on it a full week and have already lost over 2 lbs.

I'd like to see all you other Scale Addicts come out and join me here !!!

chikitababe 08-29-2003 09:01 AM

Hi! Ok, I have to admit, I am a victim of the scale! I feel the need to weigh myself every morning, even though I know it's not a good idea. I have the urge to weigh more than once a day, but, don't do it. The downfall to weighing every day is that your weight will vary, as much as 4 pounds depending on water intake, salt intake, size of meal eaten, etc. I always get discouraged when I weigh in on Mondays, after the weekend at home because the scale is at leat 1 pound higher than Friday. Probably due to weekend indulgence, but, in reality, it takes 3500 calories to gain a pound, the same to lose.

at last!

Oh, Oh , OH!

Is this like a 12 step programme for scale addicts!?!

'Cause I'll tell ya Hotsplashes you are describing me to a T. I do leave on my night gown and jewelry, creep up on the scale, press down on the window sill with my right hand and s-l-o-w-l-y release the pressure allowing the scale to ever so gently get to it's spot. Hopefully at the same or a lower spot than the day before ...I figure it is relative, but other than that I do the same thing every morning.....AND many nights before I go to bed!

However I feel that allthough it is an obsessive behavior, it is a relatively harmless one. No one is affected by this except me, and I think it helps motivate me at this point. I'm less likely to lose control if I'd weighed myself that day....

I'm so comforted to know that there are at least two other persons like me out there!

Ahahaha! I do that! We are so funny.

Thanks for staring this hotsplashes!

My name is Shelley and I am a scale addict. I used to step on the scale every single morning.. but always making sure I go potty first and am nakie.. I make sure the scale is set right on the floor.. maybe give it a little bump to make sure it's working properly. Then I step on it really soft, meanwhile leaning one of my hands against the wall... (maybe that will help?) to try and take off a tiny pressure off the scale with one foot. LOL

mthrgoos68 08-29-2003 09:44 AM

OH too funny!!! That is exactly me! And never ever ever get on the scale after taking a shower, because then the water in your hair will cause you to weigh more!!

Amarantha2 08-29-2003 09:55 AM

Can I join? :) I don't exactly get on every day but I have a longstanding rule of only hopping on once a week. However, I often break this and decide I need to just look so I won't have an unpleasant shock on weigh-in day! THE PROBLEM IS, many times when I am taking this peek, I don't like the number, so I get off, get on, get off, get on. I've been known to throw away the scale (literally) and go buy another one and when I get on the new one, it says the same thing, so then I just go take a nap and feel frustrated! :yikes:

Last Sunday (my ceremonial weigh-in day), I obsessed for hours because the first time I got on the scale, it showed an error message. So I got off, reset it and it gave me a believable weight consistent with what I've been losing, but I still obsessed for hours abou that error message. Now I'm obsessing in advance of Sunday that I'll be UP when by virtue of my actions I should be DOWN!

The thing is a DEMON! :yikes: :fr: ... argh!

Thanks for posting this, Hotsplashes! I enjoyed that vent!

It's a demon, I'm tellin' ya!

chikitababe 08-29-2003 11:22 AM

Sometimes I will weigh myself after getting up, and again 30 minutes later. Suprisingly, I am usually .5 pound lighter 30 minutes after getting up!

Hi Hotsplashes!! I'm here, I'm alive!! I didn't realize I had to get access to the forums too, I thought I had access by signing up for the journals. I'm learning. Anyway, I posted a journal that's about a mile long :blah: but it explains why I haven't been around for the last couple of days. :tired:

Hi to all the Scale Addicts! My name is Michele, I'm a scale addict, and today I'm proud to say that I only got on the scale once. :sumo: Nah, seriously, it wasn't a gain, it might have been a real loss, but it is what it is. You know, I'm not sure getting on the scale everyday is a bad thing necessarily. If you say that "it is what it is" and let it be, instead of letting it dictate your mood and self esteem, then I think it's an ok thing to do. I'm not sure I'm there yet. So, I'm going to try to not weigh myself tomorrow or Sunday and just go with my official weigh in on Monday morning. :bomb: But, you better believe I'll be naked and have gone to the bathroom before I step on that evil scale on Monday!

Hotsplashes -- thanks so much for starting the thread and for looking out for me!! Hope you all have a great labor day weekend!

Hotsplashes 08-29-2003 08:42 PM

YAHOO

Only once, I repeat ONLY ONCE, yesterday. But I've already been on this morning :s: and that  scale didn't see me comin'!

I have a couple of tough eating-type opportunity days comin' up and I think the scale thingy helps me. OK I'm an addict!

Amarantha2 08-30-2003 10:27 AM

Thanks for your welcome, Hotsplashie!!!

Fellow Scale Addicts, I loved reading your stories because now I know I AM NOT ALONE and others in the universe really DO worry about the weight of wet hair on the scale, take off scrunchies and weigh themselves when they get up and 30 minutes later!!! :spin:

I'm not one of those people, though, who believes the scale should be done away with altogether! I honestly do think it's a useful tool for tracking losses, but as stated before, I have come to terms with its EVIL DEMONIC NATURE    EXCEPT on Sunday mornings when it gives me a good reading, then I realize it is truly an  and my BEST FRIEND!!!

So, my challenge today is to STAY OFF THE  until tomorrow. I was having EVIL thoughts this a.m. of taking a peek to see how my new WW program is coming along, but I MUST RESIST, RESIST, RESIST!

If that  isn't an  tomorrow, though, it's outta here. It can be replaced by a tape measure! I hope it's reading this!

Hotsplashes 08-30-2003 11:48 AM

Good Morning SAA ladies! It's a nice and cool sunny day here! I hope everyone is enjoying this long weekend so far. I'm off to see my horse and take the pups for a HUGE walk...I'll be burning off thos evil calories!

Amarantha! Congratulations on only getting on once! And YES...DON"T GET ON TODAY!!! Wait tilltomorrow! I will not be on my evil scale again until next Thursday or Friday...hopefully I can last until then!lol It's nice to know there are other folks who have "scale rituals" too!

Have a wondeful weekend ladies!!!

Shelley0574 08-30-2003 11:49 AM

Thanks for the welcome hot! I can see that I'll be in here lots! You all are just halarious..

Well, I broke down and stepped on the scale again today.. Like I'd loose a pound or two overnight.. right.. lol I plopped down on the couch and told hubby I couldn't believe I'm still the same after 2 weeks... He told me something that lifted my spirits a little.. he said that I may not be loosing pounds but I'm definitely loosing inches. I feel all better :) Darn that  grrrr!

Amarantha--that was funny.. "I hope it's reading this" I LMBO when I read that..

chikitababe 08-30-2003 06:07 PM

Hey! I LOVE my mother's scale. I weighed myself nakie after getting out of bed and going potty, and my scale said 149.5. I went to my mom's house, and just for kicks decided to weigh myself on her digital scale. Her's said 147, with clothes! I don't know which scale to believe, but, I like my mom's better. I weighed in between 153.5 on August 1, so that would be 6.5 pounds lost in one month! My mom did say that she could tell that I have lost weight by looking at me. I haven't seen her in a month.

Holly

trulyunique 08-30-2003 06:41 PM

Well, after years of addiction, I am finally in recovery. I have removed the battery from my digital scale and it has been banished to the storage area in the basement. I decided this was a ridiculous way to live when I put on an outfit that I could not get into 3 weeks ago and was thrilled, stepped on the scale and was immediately down in the dumps because it didn't show a loss. How stupid is that? I am obviously losing inches so why should that one number have such an impact on my day? No more!

Amarantha2 08-30-2003 08:59 PM

Yo!

Hi, guys! I'm hangin' on by a thread here as Demon Scale wants me to just have a little peek. Tomorrow, though, is the day the Empress Amarantha has her Imperial Ceremony o' Stepping on the Golden Scale of Good Intentions, the best scale in all the land, that measureth good intentions as well as actual poundage!

Inches are definitely more important ... and we almost always lose inches before the scale registers anything, so anyone who's losing inches will eventually find the Joy of Scaling before too long. :)

Shelley: Your dh sounds like a winner ... who cares what the scale says, you've got your own way of measuring progress! :)

Trulyunique: Congratulations on getting into that outfit! :cp: Good job on banishing the  ... but watch out, sometimes those batteries jump right outta the trashcan and they can find Demon Scale even in the basement and when the two demonic forces reunite, they magically transport themselves back into our bathrooms and bedrooms. Just when you think it's safe ... :fr:

Holly, it's a LAW OF NATURE: the lower reading scale is ALWAYS the correct one! :spin: And mother ALWAYS knows best!!! :)

Hope you enjoyed your walk with the pups, Hotsplashes!!! Who needs the approval of Demon Scale when we have puppies and horses. (Well, I don't have a horse and my Old Dog's not a pup, but you get the concept!) :dancer:

Shelley0574 08-31-2003 09:22 AM

Well, good lucketh on the scaleth Miss Empress :)

Yeah, loosing inches gives us back that girly figure we once had.. he he ;)

My DH can't keep his hands off of me! LOL I'm like, where were you about 20 pounds and lots of inches ago??
He's a good man.. he's been very supportive of my diet and motivates me to get off my butt and exercise... and always gives me the best compliments :)

I have a digital scale too.. I thought about taking the batteries out of that bad boy for some time but I just can't do it.. *sigh* Kudos to you, truly, for taking that big step!

Holly, I need to find a scale like that! Mine is forever stuck on 148 and won't budge!

HEY We need to come up with "The 12 steps" of Scale addicts anonymous! Here's one! :)

1. We admitted we were powerless over the evil scale and that our temptations had become unmanageable.

Amarantha2 08-31-2003 11:08 AM

Well, I did have good luck, thanks to Flexpoints. A half pound is consistent with what I thought I should go down after three days on that program, so the  has become an  ... for the moment. I need to be stronger than ever to not get on until next Sunday and I feel I will be rewarded with a solid loss at that time!!!

I dunno if I should be in this meeting, 'cause right now I love my scale and feel I've taken CONTROL o' the :demon: !!!!! :)

Tulip-Fairy 08-31-2003 04:46 PM

I'm Here...I made it...at last!

Hope i'm not too late to join in??
It took me a while to get here...

I too have a confession... Tulip is a scales addict!!! I not only weigh myself every morning, nakie after going to the potty with no jewlery, I move the scales around the bathroom until i get the best results, for some reason i'm heavier nearer to the window than by the door [something to do with the floor boards me thinks!!!] but that's the way i like it to do it :o

I'm up for a 12 step programme, what do i have to do, weigh myself ONLY 12 times a week??!! he he he:D :D :D

Glad to meet like minded SA!!!

ceara 09-01-2003 07:42 AM

A-H-H- H-A!

Well I snuck up on  again this morn.....down a pound. That is good. I did hop on last night for a preview before bed and things were lookin' good.

Empress A, that all wurn't no luck! That all were HARD WORK and GOOD MANAGEMENT on yure part...it's always fun when you beat that scale!

I hope that inch thing holds 'cause I should drop more then....I feel less jiggly

I need to cruise on....gotta a lot of things to do...lotta of strategies to build on how to weigh myself...never thought of moving the scale!?! I'm learnin' new stuff here!

:dizzy: Ceara

Rowan Bailey 09-01-2003 11:05 AM

I have suffered from this cruel affliction! I had it so bad at one point that my boyfriend at the time took the scale from me and I threw an abosolute embarassing fit....I would weight several times a day (I am not controlling or obessive :) ). I now happily weight myself only once a day, and only in the morning and if I miss that time then I don't until the following day.

I used to do the bodily excavation, removal of all clothing, and the extreme exhale before weighing myself. Now I just take off the clothes (oh, and I do wait until after the bathroom) so I guess I just done do the massive exhale <giggle>.

It is nice to be able to laugh about something that I always found strange. My old bf thought it was funny and he too make me laugh about it, but I did threaten to cause him bodily harm in a most precious area!!!

Have a great day all!!

Tulip-Fairy 09-01-2003 12:33 PM

After posting to this thread last night, i went to bed and resisted weighing myself just so i didn't have to own up to it on here!!! ;-)

See a problem shared is a problem halved [or what ever the saying is!!!]

Down a pound this morning so i'm really pleased...weighing myself daily encourages me to eat healthier during the day ....that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!! :-D

Hotsplashes 09-01-2003 04:15 PM

Happy Labor Day my lovely ladies! Hope this post is finding everyone enjoying themselves!! I have not got on the dreaded scales today because I truly wanted to enjoy my day. This weekend was a tuff one as my eating was not on target. I had a two bad sugar crashes and had to eat what was at hand, a power bar and peanuts. And of course I did cheat and had a burger with a bun at the horseshow. A county fair ain't a county fair without a fairburger! But today has been good!

Welcome Rowan Baily! glad you could join us! And what an encouraging story of you being able to only weigh once a day! You are to applauded!lol The boyfriend story was a good chuckle here! Hope you will continue to visit us here at SAA!

Tulip fairy!!!! Wonderful news of the pound loss!!! Keep up the good work, and stop getting on the scale at night! You are more likely to disappoint yourself at nite. Naughty girl! BUT we are glad you came to the meeting to confess!!LMAO...GOod Going on the pound loss!!!

Ceara!! Congratulations to you too on the pound loss! What a bunch of wonderful LOSERS! we have here in SAA! I'm proud of my fellow scale addicts! Make sure you pop in again to keep us upto date on the continuing losses!!

Amarantha...glad you are becoming a regular here! I hope the Empress is Losing along with the rest of us!!!

And to all the rest of our members of Scales Addict Anonymous, I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and hope to see you all posting in here this week!

Shelley0574 09-01-2003 05:55 PM

OY!! I have to stop getting on the scale.. It's driving me crazy.. I am UP a pound today.. possibly due to PMS.. but still.. why do I do this to myself?! I refuse to reduce myself to a freakin' number on a scale. Although it still depresses me a little... I just want to take the darn scale and throw it in the trash! grrrrr!

Saidamom 09-01-2003 09:32 PM

I'm finally here! I just figured out how to register yesterday and now I am making a "post" - I promise to be more informative next time...

Shelley0574 09-02-2003 10:42 AM

Hi Saidamom! Welcome to SAA! :)

Oh boy.. I have a lot of making up to do this week. I did SO bad this weekend. LOL So don't feel bad hot! I ate terribly and drank for 2 nights straight. OY! Hey, what can I say.. It was labor day weekend.. lol

I'm not stepping on the scale again until weigh in.. That's Friday.. I may wait until Saturday though.. so I can give myself a little time to loose this pound I gained back!

Hotsplashes 09-03-2003 10:10 AM

Good Morning fellow SAAers!! Sorry to have been gone so long but farmwork kept me so busy yesterday that I was too tired to get on the puter. Sometimes I think we all need a break from the puter like we need a break from the dreaded Scales! I tweaked my diet a bit and found out that having cereal for supper doesn't work for me. Doc said to try it...I did...it didn't work. Had a hard time getting to sleep, tossed and turned even tho I was tired. Got up this morning all bloated and groggy and had weird dreams too. So no more cereal for supper. Just don't work for me!

Saidamom! So glad you finally were able to find your way through the evil mazes that the evil demon scales have set up around our little club to waylay wary travellers! It's never too late to join!! And we're just happy to have you here! Can't wait till your next post!

Empress Amarantha!! How did the Royal Weigh-in go? We are excited to hear! Hopefully none of the evil demons:devil: crept up on you!! Please log in and let us know!

Shelley, I owe you a great thanks for keeping the posting going while I was away. I make you honorary Vice President of this chapter of SAA! When the posting started dieing in the last two days, you kept it going!! YAYYYYYYY Shelley! What would I do without you? Hope you decide to stay with us!:smug:

:D :D OK LADIES!!! The Thread is dieing here!! Where's all my Scale Addicts Anonymous Members??? Let's get busy and keep this Thread on the first page!! I nearly had a heart attack when I didn't see it on the first page. Don't let me down ladies!!!!!!!!!! Let's show the world that we are a bunch of LOSERS!!!YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY :D :D

Shelley0574 09-03-2003 10:22 AM

Cool! I'm an HVP! :) :cb: I think this is a great topic and it definitely keeps me motivated and keeps me from stepping on the dreaded evil demon ugly scale! (Until weigh in that is)

I went to the gym yesterday and I think I over exerted myself! :faint: My body cramped and ached all night last night and I had the worst headache. :headache: I think I was just trying to make up for not going to the gym for 3 days.

I'm going to a Pilates class this afternoon. Never done Pilates in my life. I think it will be a nice break from my hard work out every day. Has anyone else here done Pilates before?

Come on guys.. Jump on in.. the water is FINE! Start posting and keep this thread busy! :comp: I'm sure there are lots of other SA's out there who would love to see this and join in :)

Hope everyone's having a great day!

Tulip-Fairy 09-03-2003 11:41 AM

Stupid Scales!!!!!!!!

Well this morning i did the whole strip off chase the stupid things around the bathroom and they still told me that i'd put on a pound!!

I HATE THEM - I HATE THEM - I HATE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mind you, it is my own fault i went out on saturday night  for our end of summer staff party and ate :hun: and drank way too much

I was soooo dizzy :dizzy: the next morning i couldn't do my exercises or ride my bike!! I even had to have an emergency take out burger / fries and large soft drink to easy my pain :stars:

But to put the balance back i got up this morning and did two lots of excercise to make up for it, and my diet has been okay today too :^:

Shelley0574 09-03-2003 11:55 AM

Breeeeeeeeeaaaaathhhheeeeee... lol Okay so you had your fun.. Just like I did.. and I put on a pound too! All ya can do it start over the next day and put things back into perspective.. I think we're allowed our fun once in a while! Just don't give up! :)

Hot.. what kind of cereal did the doc tell you to eat? and why eat it for supper? Just curious :)

I was SO tempted to step on the scale this morning... but I kept myself busy so I just forgot about it. I was wanting to see if what I did yesterday helped anything. I would have been so disappointed and it probably would have ruined my day if I didn't see a difference.. So I'm glad I didn't!

chikitababe 09-03-2003 12:03 PM

Hey Ladies!! Well, I decided to put my scale in the bathroom cupboard to resist weighing myself. I did not weigh in yesterday, or today, and am trying not to until Saturday. I ate way too much fatty food on Monday, so, didn't dare step on.

Holly

Shelley0574 09-03-2003 02:23 PM

Good for you, chikita! :) Then you and I are waiting until the same day.. Let's keep each other from dragging that dreaded thing out until Saturday! 3 more days. We can do it! :high:

Idealperson 09-03-2003 02:34 PM

Hello! I am truly a scale addict. I just bought a scale 3 weeks ago (I'm practically a scale virgin) now I weigh myself every morning (after I pee) and again before bed every day. I also go to Curve 5x a week and weigh in there as well as once a week at Weight Watchers! Is there help for me... it really does control my mood for the day:^:

zadie k 09-03-2003 04:08 PM

Hello. My name is Zadie and I am a scale adict. And now for the past two weeks my boyfriend has taken away my scale (to his workshop to weigh stuff to estimate shipping costs for ebay) and I am going through withdrawl.

I laughed very hard at the slowly taking hands off of the window sill becuase that is exactly what I do. Also, I used to have a scale that I weighed different ammounts depending on how I stood on it or where it was placed in the room. So of course I would have to migrate with my sclae arroudn the bathroom. And then I would pick the highest weight. My new scale is very consistent, but unforgiving.

Usually I weigh just in the morning, but sometimes i will step on before bed.

I want my scale back. Is that so wrong?

ceara 09-03-2003 05:40 PM

HELLO!

No Zadie K, that's OK....my scale was kittywonkers this a.m. because the male members of my family had taken it OUT TO THE FIELD AND WEIGHED THE TURKEYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was like 5 lbs heavier....talk about my heart goin' "WHOOSH!!!!" Especially since I have been excellent on my eating behavior. Was relieved when I noticed the calibration was OFF. The good news is that it behaved itself when I re-set it and that the turkeys are 22-24 lbs (hens) and 34-38 lbs (toms). So they are off shortly.
And my scale should stay in the bathroom for another year..sigh...

Ceara

Shelley0574 09-03-2003 08:26 PM

Welcome Ideal and Zadie to SAA!! :) Glad to have you join us!

Ideal-- You control the scale.. Don't let the scale control you! :) This is the reason why I only try to weigh myself weekly.. I refuse to let a piece of metal and plastic decide what kind of day I'm going to have!

Zadie--It's not wrong to want your scale back..but maybe it's a good thing that your b/f has it! You might find that being without it for a while will do you good.. especially if you weigh yourself after it's been gone a while and you've found that you've lost a few pounds!

Ceara-- LOL!! I would have been chewing someone out!

chikitababe 09-04-2003 07:08 AM

Good morning! ARGH, the scale monster won today. I stepped on and it said 148. So, now I have to try to stay off the darn thing at least until September 9, next Tuesday. I never like to weigh in on Monday, so, I guess if I can make it 5 days, it is better than weighing once a day!

Shelley0574 09-04-2003 09:46 AM

LOL chikita.. Well, mine won too! I couldn't resist stepping on it this morning (shame on me) but I'm down to 145! I think I lost about 3 or 4 pounds in a week.. Is that healthy? LOL

Hotsplashes 09-04-2003 11:41 AM

Hello Fellow Members of SAA!!! Sorry I missed posting yesterday! Had a rather Odd day if you will notice in my journal. Got shot at while riding my horse! All is well now. So let's get on with today subject!! Our Scales!!lol

Thanks for keeping the thread busy during my absence Shelley!! :D Yes I too sometimes over do things in hopes to make up for the lacking the day or two before. I don't know why we torture ourselves like that when we should just be realistic and say, "Ok, I messed up a bit. Time to get back on track." Easy as that. Instead we go, "OMIDOG!!! I need to overcompensate!!! MUST OVER COMPENSATE!!" We are such silly people. And finally...... CONGRATS on that BIG weightloss!! What a wonderful loser you are!!! It's prolly alot of water...so don't fret too much! :D

Ahhhhh Dear Tulip Fairy, It's ok to fall off the wagon. The weight gain is truly only water weight and will be gone soon. We all deserve a treat now and then. Even my Doc told me that even though I am on a pretty strict eating program, I can treat myself to something I truly adore...like cheesecake...as long as it's not a daily thing. He said once a week as a reward kind of thing. And only in small doses. The headache was prolly a sugar hangover...BUT!! You RAllied Back like the LOSER That you are and hopped back on the Wagon and Back On Program!! YAYYYY TULIP!~!!! :bravo:

See.. I held on to 148-149 for 3 weeks!! So I am just on cloud 9 today! :cloud9: It seems to be that way for me though.. I'll stay at a certain weight for a few weeks, then boom.. I have a big loss. Wander why that is? I remember being stuck at 158 for almost 4 weeks.. then all of a sudden I was at 153.

Heck, maybe it's my  scale trying to trick me..
