Default New and looking for advice

Hey guys,
I am new on this and I have been trying to lose the weight but I am not sure where to start. I just finished university and those years have put the weight on. I am not using an excuse but I want to be healthy again.
As my doctor says I am a little chunky so if i could lose 20 pounds which is easier said than done.
My friends are all skiny so its hard to ask them for help so I thought I would try a support forum and see how this goes.

What are the tips, advice on how to lose some weight. Any books, trainning programs (not expensive) or anything helpful to help a girl out.
Where should i start ? Any suggestion is helpful.

Thanks guys

Hi and welcome!) Congratulations on trying to develop some strategies to lose weight. There are a lot of people on this website that have reached their weight loss goals therefore you could try reaching out to them. I post on a thread regularly called July accountability thread. Feel free to check in there if you like. All of us have different methods for losing weight (ie, calorie counting, carb counting etc..). I suggest you peruse the website and read threads that sound interesting or fit your situation. Of course movement is important if you don't already exercise regularly. Following others blogs might be another thing that might help you and there is a section on this website with links to different blogs. Congratulations on graduating from college! Since you have accomplished that major feat, you will also accomplish your weight loss goals. Best wishes!)

I find most helpful to see a real specialist in weight loss, exercise, and follow direction of dietician on what and how much of it to eat. Also find time to take care of yourself ,Ie class in gym or yoga and 1/2 hr aerobics day to begin, but then work up to 1 hr 4x a week. Drink tons of water , eat fiber, and dont forget your fruits and veggies and protein after work out.Good luck.

Great to have you here! Congratulations on your graduation!

I think it's great that your doctor is working with you to keep you healthy (a lot of them ignore patient weight), and I think it's great that you're collaborating to maintain your health/fitness.

One thing that helps a lot of people is to cut back on calorie drinks like soda and juice. Another simple thing that may help is reducing or eliminating snacks, or making sure they're healthy (a piece of fruit, a few nuts, fresh veggies, etc.). My sister did the latter and lost weight effortlessly without changing anything else.

If you feel like it's something you want to do, I would suggest starting with some physical activity. Not to lose weight, but just for general health. There are a lot of free exercise videos on YouTube (from yoga to pilates to kickboxing cardio, dance cardio, weight lifting, etc.). Or just walks or biking is good.

If you only need to lose 20 lbs, you probably don't need to make drastic changes, which is the good news.

Start walking a couple miles a day, drink 100oz of water, and start to track what you are eating. Stay away from fast food/junk food.

Hi agirl

There are some information that you would like to know to help you lose weight:

There are three macronutrients: Protein, Carbohydrates and Fats.

Do you know that your body is made mostly of protein, after water? What this means is that you need to eat protein every day!

Carbohydrates are the favorite form of fuel for our body’s energy level. Try to eat mostly slow burning or complex carbohydrates instead of simple or sugary carbs. After your body uses the energy it needs to function, the rest is deposited as fat.

As for fats, there are good and bad fats. The majority of us eat way too much fat, especially the bad fats (transfat and saturated).

Try to distribute your macronutrients when you eat as follows:
50% protein
30-35% carbs
And the rest in healthy fats.

Here are some healthy choices among each category:

Good Protein Choices: Lean red meat, chicken (no skin), turkey, fish, low-fat dairy.

Avoid processed meats and don’t be afraid to eat whole eggs (most of the nutrients are in the yolk).

Good Carb Choices: The best carb choices that are low in Glycemic Index are: Sweet potatoes, beans, yams, brown rice, corn, whole grain products, oatmeal, bananas, grapefruit, pears, apples, strawberries, and veggies.

Carbs to Avoid: Cakes, cookies, pastries, white flour, candy, high sugar foods.

Good Fat Choices: Sunflower seeds, olive oil, cold water fish, almonds, walnuts, low fat cheeses, peanut butter.

Fats to Avoid: High-fat salad dressings, deep-fried goods, high-fat dairy, high-fat meats.

Remember that balance is key. A diet too high in protein for example may cause nutritional deficiencies, deteriorating the kidneys and liver and increasing the risk of heart disease.

One last question?....Did you move your body today? Did you exercise or are you going to exercise today for at least 20-30 minutes? Give it a try! It will definitely help in your weight loss goals and make you feel better and less prompt to cravings.

I hope this helps!

Carolina

if you want lose excess weight ,you need to make your workout plan !!
The question is really - which are the best weight loss plans that would suit your body and match your lifestyle, which would assist you achieve your objectives and which you would be comfortable to apply rigorously and ought to be thought out well.
so here is some tips i read it from blogs
Making the approach

do you have the time every day for go to the gym ?
if yes , i prefer for myself this machines ,
Treadmill :
Sometimes I used it if it was raining
Group cycling bike :
the best in my maybe becuse i love the bike
Indo-Row Rowing Machine and StepMill by Stairmaster :
it's a perfect recipe for calorie burn .
if you shy or feel embarrassed to go to the gym you can do exercise in the home ,
like this:
Squats
Push-Ups
Plank
Lunges
Downward dog

Easy Food Replacement
For example, many of the foods that you already enjoy are available in low fat versions currently. Instead of just purchasing the fat laden brand that you usually do, start substituting to the low fat version instead.

eat healthy foods like :
Soup
Beans
Oats
Avocados
Salmon (i don't love it)
Pureed vegetables..........
A good rule to follow along with to lose weight in your own home in just a few days is to be able to cut calories by 190 from a model's Basal metabolic rate down the road cut only 50 over equation). Height, age group, and current weight all see how much one is burning just by simply normal activity.

maybe you need something Forcing you to follow-up your plan
(like me) so i bought this program ***** loss factor} it's good .
Finally, if you really want to lose weight you need a action not only read, Make a plan and followed,
If you do not like replace ,
