Has anyone done DietBet?

  • Here's a link to their site: DietBet

It's like a weight loss challenge with a monetary incentives. I've been considering joining for a month now but I'm a little overwhelmed by the whole idea. I want to do the transformer (6 months) but it ends right around the holidays. That could either be a great push for me to stay driven when I'm the most stressed out and surrounded by sweets or be one more thing I give up on.

I'm curious if others have tried it and what their thoughts are on it? I love doing the challenges here and they are great for keeping me motivated, but with this I could possibly be making some money. Also, since it ends around the holidays, a lot more people might drop out and I could make even more money if I stay committed.
  • Money is always an incentive! Have you ever done a biggest loser type challenge with friends and family? My MIL and SIL are running one but I declined to join...
  • I tried to get a challenge going with family and friends a couple different times but no one seemed interested once they really considered the work they had to put in. I've done better with challenges on here, though, because people actually make the commitment.
  • I looked into it but decided not to. First, because I was (and still am) losing very slowly at the time, and I wanted to be okay with it. Second, because from what I read some people go to unfortunate measures to reach their goals and make money. I didn't like the idea of stressing myself because of money, but if you're the type that finds that to be a healthy incentive, go for it!
  • I have been considering it. I won't be using it as my source for motivation, but if I can get paid for something I plan on doing anyway, I might as well.
  • Yes
I am currently in one of the challenges. Also doing healthy wage

I agree and that bugs me that people risk their health for money. For me it's more less about making money and more about not losing money. As long as you reach your goals you won't lose any money. I like it more for the long term, structured challenge. It's the challenge that motivates, not the money, that's just a bonus.
  • I've done one, found it hard to be motivated on.... so ended up being a waste of money for us....

And while, it seems cheat proof, it really isn't.
  • I would love to do this but I lose so slow that it would stress me out.
  • I've only done the 4 week/4% bets. I've participated in three so far. Won two and lost one and I'm down about 26 pounds. I start another one August 3rd.

I am to afraid to do the 6 month transformer bets. I know my track record for commitment. Four weeks is pushing it for me.

I say if you have the money then go for it!
