Default TMI-Adult material OMG it's happening again!!!

Ok, I've been married for nearly 22 years. My husband and I are sexual human beings and we've always enjoyed our sex lives. I've always fairly easily reached orgasm during sex. It was great!

Then, 5 years ago when I was losing weight, like a switch, I stopped having orgasms - during sex and even very difficult, sometimes didn't happen during masturbation. At first I thought it was the medications I was on. Wasn't the blood pressure meds as I went off those after awhile. I started to suspect it was the generic synthroid.

For TWO YEARS I had 2 orgasms TOTAL. And it was HORRIBLE because my husband was more sexually attracted to me with being thinner and (more importantly) healthier, so we were having more sex, but the sex was frustrating!

Then, I got switched to synthroid just before we went to Europe 3 years ago. I started to have orgasms again. Hallelujah! BUT... something else happened at that time - I wasn't calorie or carb restricting as much during vacation.

YET... I went back to carb watching and so on and same for last year... I had no sexual problems.

Then, starting about 3 weeks ago, it started again... I'm on synthroid. i'm on BP meds. I'm restricting calories and carbs (but my carb count isn't super low) and I am having problems reaching orgasm again... just as my husband is getting friskier again... SERIOUSLY STINKS!!!

Is it a fluke? Is it perimenopause? What??? I'm not fretting about it, etc... I don't think my mind is creating some block. It's something with my diet and/or med combination...

When I mentioned it to my primary and specialist for thyroid, they both were stumped... my primary blew it off. Like, "What's the big deal?" HELLO!!! I was 41 years old at the time and the idea of never orgasming again for the rest of my life was a bit more than I was willing to deal with!

ANYONE have something similar?

Hi Berryblondeboys! I don't actually have that problem, but I do have a guess. I really don't think it's directly related to your weight loss. I think it's hormonal. And the hormone shifts are related to both your stage in life (perimenopause) and your weight loss.

All our hormones work together. When you lose weight, estrogen is released from your fat cells - this will make your progesterone low in comparison. Whenever I have a more than 5 pound weight loss in a single month, I begin spotting. At first I was terrified, but then all the tests came back normal. My doc told me it was fairly common and that I had the double whammy of being 48 and losing weight and both those things were going to screw with my hormones. Don't forget, synthroid is thyroid hormone - you've actually got a triple whammy!

Other than the spotting, I can't say I have been terribly bothered by hormonal changes so I'm sorry I can't be more help. One of my friends got a lot of relief from seeing a doc who specializes in bioidentical hormone replacement. She's on several things, including progesterone.

Good luck! I hope you can get to the bottom of this.

You are probably right... it's probably the huge hormonal upset I'm in... but that also should mean it's TEMPORARY... however two years doesn't feel overly temporary!
