Default Is it my turn to be skinny?

Hey!

I got some weight to lose, and could really do with some support in form of sharing everyday little successes in eating the right calories and doing exercises. If anyone else is in the same boat, let me know and we can do it together.

I'm 33, 5ft7, 183.4lbs and my goal is to weigh 152lbs. "Only" 31lbs to lose

I'm also a vegan so if there is any other vegans around let me know, we can share recipes! But I don't mind if you are an omnivore, I don't care what other people eat I just want to lose weight

22/04/2015 update

Weigh-in Saturday morning (before I ruin my efforts)

SW 183.4

We are very similar in age, weight, and goal, but I'm a bit taller.

I had a good day yesterday.
Did my day 2 of 30day shred (It hurts now everywhere!)
Went to gym on my bike and did a big round (about 30 mins cycling)
35 mins of c25k week 6
10 mins of elliptical
bike home 10 mins
5k biking next to my bf when he was running

Calories stayed under 1500 so all good!

Scales were 183.2 - so a bit less!

Plan for today:
eat 1200 cal {done}
30 day shred {done}
walk 1 mile {done}

I thought maybe I'd treat this thread as my diary too.
Inspiration for meals and reminders for myself!

Breakfast:
Soy yoghurt 50g
hemp protein 15g
banana 100g
coffee with hemp milk

Lunch:
Porridge with water
chia seeds
kiwi

Early dinner due work:
Brown rice
beans in tomato sauce
broccoli
onion bahji

an apple later on

That's under my goal!
Whoohoo!

Lost a pound!! Finally, after exercising over 2 months.
I think I was just overeating and cheating. Not writing everything down what I ate. No surprise I didn't lose any weight. Well at least I didn't gain any!

So I am 182.3 lbs now! Whoo!!

Plan for today:

Eat 1200 cal
c25k (10 min run 3 min walk 10 min run) {done}
30 day shred {done}

Now we're talking!
Scales were 180.8 this morning!! Not long until the 170s now!

Did a 20km bike ride today. Will have a day off from the 30 day shred and c25k.

Super happy, will be able to wear nice summer clothes this year hopefully and get a nice dress for my graduation!

Oh dear. It is so hard to fall off the wagon during the weekend!
Saturday was food wise ok, I even squeezed 2 hours of cycling in. Did 21km. But went out in the evening, had 3 pints of beer.
Had a super bad hangover from that!
Sunday had my diet breakfast plus some bread and veggie sausage. That's plus 200 cal.
Then went out for late lunch.
Had 2 vegan sausages
2 toast beans
Mushrooms
that's probably 800 calories
Later had dinner
Spring rolls 280
Rice 100
Veg 100
Apple 50
Shreddies with oat milk 400
Nuts 100
That's like 2500 cal

Congrats on your weight loss goal! I lost my weight when my doctors told me I had high cholesterol and needed to lose (imagine that....I was only eating fast food 24/7!). I lost it too quickly the first time and couldn't maintain it, but the second time it took a good year and a half but the weight came off and I am in maintenance. I tried a couple different techniques. I ate clean which worked but then I got sucked into calorie counting which can be effective but nightmarish if you let it control your life. I think a healthy balance works. Since you're vegan (I ate primarily vegan when I was losing weight) staying away from cheese won't be an issue I let myself have one "treat" a day (like a small piece of chocolate) so I didn't feel deprived. I also had a weekly cheat meal. This isn't something everyone agrees with but I needed it. I don't like to restrict too much and looking forward to Friday nights (when I had my indulgences) really made getting through the week bearable. It takes time but it will happen! Slow and steady is what worked for me. I didn't want to have a huge calorie deficit because I am very active and need the energy. Remember, one pound of fat equals 3500 calories. So if you cut 250 calories from your diet daily and burn 250 calories exercising daily, that's a 3500 calorie weekly deficit. Keep in mind that everyone's metabolism is different so this doesn't necessarily mean you will lose a pound a week. It's just an example. Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated and don't get discouraged if you "plateau" after a few weeks or months. In the beginning the weight loss is usually water weight but trust me it will come off. I also found that stressing about it made me retain water (google Cortisol and water retention). Oh and I recently learned that Ibuprofen can cause water retention. Oy vey. Dieting is never easy and the best way to stick to a new eating plan is to not look at it like a diet but as a life style. You are making a conscious decision to do something sustainable and good for your body. When you're at a restaurant or party, wedding, ANYTHING and you feel your will power dwindling, know you are not alone! Remember you are doing something healthy and stick to your healthy menu choices. Personally, I have a sweet tooth so at parties I treat myself to the frosting on one slice of cake. Stay hydrated, keep focused, love yourself no matter what your weight and know you are NOT alone. We're all on this website for the same reason! Keep at it! Best of luck

Hey Kas0818!

Thank you for your encouragement! Much appreciated to get me going again!! And the helpful tips.
I hate this water retention. Messes up all plans at least one a month.
Bloody drinking is the worse. I love going out and having couple of drinks (not so often anymore) but the next day is horrible. I get a hangover after only couple of drinks and a bad feeling in my belly so I try to make it better with putting foods in it. All day long. And then I ruin everything with it.
And on Monday it starts again.
And then my body holds on to the water I drink because it is scared to be dehydrated
Will have to learn how to be social without having a drink.

This is not a huge problem, I drink rarely. Only mentioning it because my recent accident when I had 3 pints and a 2 day hangover!

I think I'm on the right track now. Eating healthy vegan food, plus some food supplements, trying to drink plenty of water, exercise at least 5 days a week, only one coffee in the morning. Trying to keep the calories to 1200 but on days when I have had lots of exercise I allow myself another little treat.
I don't deprive myself from anything. I eat things I like (I never been fan of junk food) just trying to make everything from scratch and not to rely on ready made fake meat products. Also trying not to have sugar.
I even make my own beans in tomato sauce! We love Heinz beans but even my bf likes the ones I make

Anyway, Kas0818, thank you so much for support, it is more appreciated than you can imagine.

What are your goals? Are you just maintaining now? How much did you lose if you don't mind me asking?

Hi you sound to be doing great on you're exercise! I'm a 30 year old Brit living in Vietnam, currently at 208lb wanting to make 154lb and then reassess, I'm also 5.7

I only got back on the wagon yesterday but am trying to do it in a realistic way so that it is forever this time. I've been good with my food and very focused but will still let myself go out at the weekend etc as that's what I need to keep sane!

Keep up the great work and don't beat yourself up about being human at the weekends....

I am really struggling to get anywhere with exercise at the moment, which was my strength in the past. It's hot and busy outside so without paying for a gym membership my options are limited, but then I know I'm making excuses!

Going to do a home strength workout in the morning and take it from there. Reading your post made me think I should get back on the thirty day shred, but having never managed to do all 30 days in the past I'm a little fearful of Jillian bringing me down!

Poppadum, I would say I lost 30-34 pounds (this morning apparently only 30 pounds but that's a rant I will get to in a minute lol). I am in maintenance but having some issues. I don't like calorie counting because I feel it restricts what I can eat unless it comes from a chain restaurant or a box (barf and barf!) simply because I don't like the hassle of eyeballing food, guesstimating serving sizes and so forth. My goal is to eat clean but I assume I will gain some weight back if I do. I keep reminding myself as long as I eat smart and exercise, my body will regulate itself. I openly admit that I eat a fair amount of junk. With that I mean sugary cereal and carbs. I maintain my caloric intake and exercise 6x a week but I treat myself. If I have 500 calories left for the day I eat that last piece of carrot cake, but lately I think I may be doing that too often because my cholesterol is still up. This week was very odd. I gained 4 pounds and although had a cheat night, don't know how to explain it. I cheated but had a calorie deficit to make up for it followed by two extra exercise sessions. From a mathematical standpoint of calories in, calories out, I should not have gained an ounce. I have been drinking a ton of tea and barely peeing which is irregular for me so I suspect I am clinging to water weight as I was recently taking a tidy sum of Ibuprofen for an injury. :Groans: Lovely, seeing as I have a wedding to attend this Friday. Ain't diets fun? Honestly, it's stressful and exhausting most days and I wish it were easier but alas, I am not one of the naturally thin. I need to work hard and rigorous to maintain. That's why I love that I found this site......empowering people to help and to be helped by! Best I can say as I have been maintaining for quite some time....you're not alone. It's stressful but remember the end goal you have set for yourself. Try and make it fun. Summer is approaching which means my fiance and I will drive through the lesser known parts of the state in search of little farmer stands offering up fresh fruit and produce. You will get there, it just takes time! Don't let any set-backs derail you. Glad to help!

Hi stepbystep!

Welcome on the wagon!
This is the first hardest thing to do.

I wouldn't recommend 30 day shred if you haven't done much exercise yet. I remember I tried it couple of years back and gave up really quickly. As much as I have been reading about it, you need to have a bit of fitness in you already.

Is it too hot to go for a jog? I have been doing the c25k and would recommend it to any beginner! This will first help you get fitter so you can face the 30 day shred

I sometimes just do little rounds around the block.
What I have found good for strength is fitness bands. I got these :
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ilpage_o08_s00

They're fun and there's lots of youtube exercise for them. You can lose 100 cal in 10 mins! They are good for home exercise and you can take them even to travels.

Anyway, I am happy to meet you, the weight will come down sooooon!!!
