  • Is there already a thread around here for that? I could not find one.

Anyone else in the 170's trying to get out?
  • Me! I hoping to get out soon. I was 170.8 this morning on my home scale!
  • Me! Me! Me! I was 170.6 this morning. I'm so close, but those scales haven't budged the last couple of days. I keep telling the scales, "Just go to 169.8 & then you can stay still!"
  • I'm 179...lol
I just got out of the 180's but I'm hoping to be out of the 170's by thanksgiving
  • Ooh, perfect timing! I love these "traveling" threads because for some reason they really help me on this "strange" journey. So thanks for starting this one, abbysue!

Anyways, I weighed in at 176.5 this morning.
(And apparently I've just put obesity in the rear-view mirror. Or so my BMI says )
  • Coreyle and Livingthelifestyle- I am so jealous that you are so close to leaving us already!!!

SarainMN- Wouldnt that be nice?! I feel like every year I have a thanksgiving goal. I have met the last two but this year I don't even know what it is. I am thinking of just liking the way I look in a certain outfit enough to wear it. Which would require some more weight loss before then.

JenteIsving- Our stats are really similar!!

So what is everyone doing for their weight loss? What kind of foods do you eat and how often are you exercising?
  • I've been trying to mix up my workouts
I've been bit by the zumba bug and go to zumba when ever I can but am signed up for a class on Fridays so I for sure go then
otherwise I try to get a hour workout in...today I did 15 stairmaster, 15 mins treadmill and 30 mins on the elliptical
  • Everyone raves about Zumba! I have never tried it. I am not sure I can handle all that... I am really self conscious.

What do you do for your food?

How is everyone else doing today?
  • Quote: Everyone raves about Zumba! I have never tried it. I am not sure I can handle all that... I am really self conscious.
Same here! I'm kind of curious, though, and - confession! - I've been trying to challenge myself as of late, to be a little more... daring maybe. Leaving my comfort zone every once in a while. Um, does that sound silly?
So anyway, in that spirit I've been toying with the idea of trying Zumba. I'm not quite there yet, but, you know, I just might...
(If I can find a class that I actually have time for. They tend to take place when I'm busy )

What do I do for exercise? I sometimes think my exercise plan is a bit underdeveloped compared to those of many others here. I basically do a lot of walking (a few kilometers most every day) and I still do my exercises for the morbidly obese. That's how I started way back when, and for some weird reason it looks like I still haven't understood that I'm not morbildy obese anymore and that I could - and probably should - do a different kind of exercise now. I'm getting there, I'm getting there...
Oh, and I took up Pilates a few months ago.

Diet-wise, it's mainly "intuitive eating" and portion control for me, sprinkled with a dash of calorie counting. Through my - admittedly few - previous attempts at weight loss, I've discovered that I don't do well with restricting or banning this food or that; in the past that's always been a surefire way to make me want to rebel and sabotage this new way of eating. So I figured "intuitive eating" coupled with portion control and calorie counting might be the ticket. Or at least something that might be worth trying.
It's been working fine so far...

Speaking of which - I'm still at 176.5
    (Oh, the irony, hm? )
  • Hi! I'm not as close as some of you, but I've been in the 170's for far too long! In fact, I've hit the dreaded plateau I think. So I've totally changed things up starting last week, and I'm confident the numbers on the scale will start going down again. I will be soooooo glad to see a 6 after that initial 1 on the scale. It will be the first time in years!

Hope to check in on a regular basis. Good luck to all of you!
  • I'm trying to get in! been losing and gaining the same three pounds for the last two months. I can't wait to see the #7 on the scales. 170's here I come!
  • Jente- I have done the same thing! Haha. Maybe its something about once being morbidly obese that makes us such fearful creatures. Tomorrow we are going to the fair and I plan on riding the rides... Which is something I have not done because of fear.

Forkeeps- I am with you! Not so much on the plateau thing as much as just getting too comfortable with the food and not being active as much as I should. Or at all as of late.

Seaurchin- WELCOME! Hopefully you will see it soon!

I was looking at my number since January 12th and its a little disheartening. This has definitely been my slowest year of weight loss since I started. I am hoping that I can get to 162 by January 12th of this year.

    Does that sound doable?
  • abbysue: No, I don't think you'll get to 162 by January 12 of this year, unless you have a time machine (and if you do, send me a pm, I may need to borrow it!). Just kidding, I'm sure you meant next year. That's a little less than 20 pounds in a little over 2 months. Possible, but tough. Is that your ultimate goal weight? If so, maybe it would be better to focus on the pounds you lose, however slowly, rather than a deadline. You have come so far, you should be so proud of your accomplishment! Just a little while longer, you will get there. Good luck!
  • Oh the pains of the 70's. I've exercised like crazy, but instead of leaving the 70's in the rearview mirror, I gained a pound. Now I need 2lbs to get to 169.8.

It's funny because I was so thrilled to get into the 70's as I haven't seen them since college (11 years ago) and now I can't wait to get out of them.

As far as Zumba - I love it and this is what has lead to a lot of my weight loss. I do it about 4 days a week. The first time I went I stood in the back with 1 goal - make it through the whole class...and I did (barely). Just modify it to what you can do - if they are jumping, just step. In my class there are people of all sizes. I have made such great friends in there and met an instructor who literally is helping me change my life. She has encouraged me to do step, spin, body sculpting class, and now I am doing personal training with her. Never did I think I could do all this. Also, I now can jump and do all the high intensity moves in Zumba for the whole hour - a big change from just trying to make it through the class!

One thing I will say is after you do Zumba for a while, you must branch out and do some other exercise to mix it up.

So for now I'm just going to keep on trucking and hope to leave the 70's soon.
  • Forkeeps- Haha, yep I meant 2014.

I think that would be my ultimate goal. I know I have come a long ways but it seems like this last year it has been soooooooo much slower. If I get down to 162 then it would be 50 pounds in a year and that seems like a decent amount. I dont know why I am so hung up on the numbers though.

Living the lifestyle- That sounds amazing! How much time would you say you spend every week in the gym or working out?
