Why am I so hungry!!

  • Ok so I have been eating healthier and dieting since March of this year. I eat between 1200-1400 calories a day MOST days. The last two days I have been STARVING!!! Do you think it has something to do with adding exercise? I went from no workouts to 2 miles every other day walking on the treadmill. Should I be eating more or just deal with the hunger? Any advice is welcome! I could seriously eat half a cow. MOOOOO
  • If you are hungry, eat! Just make sure they are healthy, low cal choices to be safe...but imo if i'm hungry for a pb&j and I know I should be eating boiled eggs, I know I should probably turn to the pb&j..otherwise I'll be unsatisfied and eat it anyway
  • It could be the exercise. Has your rate of weight loss changed? If you can up your calories and still lose weight at the rate you want, then I'd go ahead and do it

I've also noticed that I've been hungry over the last week or two, which is unusual for me. Some other members have mentioned added hunger this time of year. Maybe we're like squirrels, storing our nuts for the winter
  • First, let me say me that everyone's body is different!

Ok, with that disclaimer out of the way the only way I am not hungry on a restricted calorie diet is if I'm eating low carb. Not ketosis low carb, but less than 100 grams per day. Too many carbs, not enough protein.....and I get stupid hungry. So, go ahead and eat that half a cow. Just don't have a loaf of bread and a bowl of mashed potatoes on the side.
  • "You are what you eat,
Thats funny because I don't remember eating any SEXY beasts today!"

I LOVE that line! Thanks for making me smile!

I agree with iixi - if you're hungry, eat!
  • I've noticed, since I stopped overeating, that some days I'm just hungrier than others. That was all masked before when I was overeating. Now, it's quite apparent.

The reverse is true, too. Some days are less hungrier than others. But I barely notice those!

In general, unless it goes on for more than a few days, I try to ignore it. Things generally stabilize over time. But, it's all a big experiment and a hungry day is definitely a good time to see if a few more calories would ease the hunger without stalling the weight loss.
  • I'm with Novus. Lower carb = less hungry for me at the same number of total calories. Under 100g (net and mostly coming from fruit and veggies) is where I feel best.
  • Thanks everyone, I will try and eat when I'm hungry but Ill try and stick with the low calorie/carb stuff. Hopefully I don't wake up in the middle of the night gnawing my arm
