Believe it or not, you can overdose on water. People have even died from it. It can deplete the sodium in your body to dangerous levels. But it's not common. A healthy person's kidneys can process almost four gallons of water in a day. But yes, you can drink too much water. The recommended daily dose of six to eight 8-oz glasses really is enough.

My doc told me some years back that when dieting I should drink 1/2 my body weight up to 100 ounces. He said for me not to go over 100 ounces ever and to drink at least 64 ounces a day no matter what I weighed. Hope this helps you.

i'm confused, are you planning on fasting and only drinking water all day? Or do you mean you are going to replce all your daily beverages with water?

Watch out for caffeine withdrawal if you are giving up caffeinated beverages.

You might want to start out switching one glass of water for something else and working your way to no soda.

Admirable goal, just don't want you to get knocked off course by very real withdrawals. Been there, not pretty, now I rarely drink soda and usually just one cup of coffee in The a.m. Two at the most.

Best of luck

I've heard you can "OD" on water, but I think it's when you drink many gallons a day. I'm never in fear of doing that- it's hard enough for me to drink the 64 oz that is required for me- but I do it. I mean, when we diet, we need to keep our kidneys happy, right? Interesting question though, thanks for the post!

People OD on water when they drink a gallon in 10 min, like people who are on exctasy or other drugs or with medical condition sthat make them always thirsty.

The best indicator is the color of your pee; it should be light yellow. Darker you're not hydrated enough, and clear is maybe a bit too much.

I drink 2 liters everyday just at work (add 2 big decaf, water at home and the occasional beer / wine glass), and my pee is light yellow, and I feel great.

I've actually noticed that drinking a big glass of water makes me feel better when I'm grumpy, tired, stressed out.

I find it hard at first drinking just water but I found every now and then squeezing a bit of fresh lemon and lime in to it gave it a bit of flavour and made it easier to drink
