Looking for a support-a-buddy!
So far I love this forum! So much to look at and so many stories from so many walks of life. It is very interesting however it is a very large community and I am looking for someone that I can maybe check in with daily and get to know. Hoping we can motivate each other and keep each other on track.
I am 28 year old female, married, no kids. I am currently 177 which is about 20lbs above normal for me as I recently quit smoking and packed on pounds! I like to ride my bike and am thinking of calorie counting, gonna start tomorrow. Let me know if your interested! :kickbutt: |
I'm up for it, if you're still looking for a motivation buddy
:) |
I'm up for it too. I'm new to this forum so I'm sorry there's not a lot of info about me.
I've been doing well the last month and I've lost around 5lbs. However I completely lost control the weekend that past and I've put on 6lbs. Than I realized I seriously need help. I live in Auckland, New Zealand. Married male in a great relationship with 1 child. Unfortunately my wife doesn't quite understand as she eats just as much as I but doesn't put on a pound. I have the willpower but when I have the weak days, I REALLY have weak days and I just need someone to talk me out of it! Please be in contact if you know what I mean. Chris |
Sure to both of you! How about we have a daily check to talk about the good and bad things we have done for the day. I don't really know how to work these forums to well yet. I don't know if there is a way to private message. I guess the three of us could use this thread to report daily? Any ideas or thoughts?
|
Hey! I'm in too! I'm 22 and in the same ballpark with your height/weight. We can use this thread and I will private message you my email. :)
|
Oops, never mind. I can't send you a private message yet, I don't think you have enough posts. We can just use this thread until you do.
I had an okay day today. My appetite is not there today as I was a little upset over family issues, so I came in under my calorie goal of 1500. My victory of the day was ordering a salad at a restaurant instead of one of the calorie laden foods I would have normally gotten! How did you guys do today? What are your goals? |
Hi mirax3! What part of MD, are u in? I'm in Bowie.
|
Hello PudgyFellow and Mirax3
Personally my day today was pretty good, spent an hour er so exercising. Im doing Weight Watchers and keep falling short on my points. Am hoping to find a way to get healthy points in. Otherwise my day to day journey is going well. I have a current mini-goal of 265 by the first of July. What're your current goals? |
Hi everyone!! I like our little support group I think this will be good! We will use this thread and we can all colloberate here.
I official start my lifestyle change tomorrow, however while ordering out at work today I got a salad instead of a huge pasta dish Mirax you've already lost 68lbs good for you!!! You can be our inspiration! You look great! Sorry that you have family probs right now : ( Bre way to exercise! What kinda exercises do you do? I as thinking of joining ww online, but wasn't sure if it was good or not. 265 no prob you got this girl!! As for me my current mini goal is to lose 15lbs by my bday on July 19 so I can buy a new dress! Fingers crossed. |
Nice! Plenty of responses already! You know, even seeing this is encouraging.
Since I completely missed out my plans, here it is. I'm currently weight 209lbs, at 5'8". I started about a year ago at 231lbs. Sorry for the odd numbers but I'm having to convert from kilograms. I started my weight loss journey with a diet someone at work mentioned to me called Dukan Diet. If you know the diet, you'll know it goes by 4 phases. I started phase 1 and 2 only as I decided it wasn't a good idea to continue it. Phase 1, I lost 13lbs in 2 weeks! I know it was all water weight but I didn't care. I just wanted the numbers to drop. There were some rough patches as I became obsessed as I was weighing myself on a daily basis and if one day I didn't drop, I would get depressed. Plus I'm pretty sure a zero carb diet wasn't healthy. I decided to change and tweak the diet for my own sake. At the end, I was eating brown rice, grilled chicken and broccoli on a daily basis. After 2 months of this, I lost about 11lbs. I was doing a lot of weight training as well, so I didn't expect the weight to just shed right off. The problem I have now is, I've plateau on my current weight for 6 months now, between eating healthy on weekdays (easy to do coz I'm at work) and binge eating hard over the weekends. For example, I whacked down 3 rounds of full fat combos at Carl's Jr, a combo at McDonalds and 2 Gü desserts.. all on just Saturday. I completely lose myself and I'm starting to think I'm mental. It's like the floodgates had opened and I just couldn't stop. I promised myself, I will give it to MOST starting now, so baby steps, 11lbs by end of July.... As today is Monday, it's been pretty busy at work so I'm pretty sure I'm way under my current calorie requirements. Still got dinner to go, guess what.. brown rice, broccoli and grilled chook! Hit the bike for 1/2 hour before bed. By the way, do you guys count calorie burn when you're on a exercise machine? if so, how much is your goal burn? |

All the best on your journey and I sincerely hope we can help each other :) I am trying out this website, which is free to assist with my calorie count. wwwdotmyfitnesspaldotcom If you are going to try it, let me know and I'll add on. It's basically loads of food products and how many calories you need to eat per day in order to reach your goals. However, I presume ladies shouldn't go lower than 1500 per day for your own sakes :) |
That is the difficult part; making the change but you can do it!
Just be sure to stay away from heavy amounts of white and yellow foods..I have a weakness for them myself :( But as for exercise I used to do Zumba (but seeing as gas is 4.25 a gallon, i don't have the extra cash to go) so instead I either do Wii-Fit or Just Dance in the comfort of my living room. I try to focus (since this is the beginning of my journey) on doing yoga or different exercises on the Wii-Fit to help with flexibility/balance/control. Then a few weeks into it I'll change it up and do the more difficult exercises. But of course that's just one approach. Personally I don't waste my time or money with the "real deal" of Weight watchers. There are plenty of websites online that have the distract conversion calculator and as long as you can google the chart to know how many points you need, you're set. :) but then again some people have the preference. The best part of weightwatchers is the 'you can eat anything' aspect. No food is off limits and if you want that extra large piece of cake. Then eat it :) just know the point value Girl you got this is the bag! That dress will be yours in no time! |
If any of you are looking for a new breakfast idea do try, try a Breakfast Parfait.
Of course breakfast parfaits come in many different fruits and flavors but this one involves: Applesauce, cottage cheese and mandarin orange slices. You take: 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and put it at the bottom of a small bowl Add 1/4cup of applesauce (sweetened or unsweetened shouldn't matter. With the amount you're using it should be the same WW point value). Place applesauce on top of the cottage cheese. Then take 9 madarin orange slices and place on top. Its a nice little heathly parfait :) If tracking WW points its only 4points. :) |
Good Day Everyone!
I love the response here its really encouraging! Hey Pudgy I hear ya on having a spouse that can eat whatever and have no clue how you are feel about your weight! My hubby eats burgers and fries everyday and loses weight from chewing his food. Makes it really hard cause he is very picky about food so there will always be bad food available in my house so it is all about the all mighty :dust: And binge eating junk food is all to familiar once I start I just keep going. But together we can do this. 11lbs by the end of July no prob just stay focused on the goal. Great breakfast idea Bre! Sounds Good I think I will try it. Ya I don't think I will pay for weight watchers I found all the points charts. I am gonna download myfitnesspal app too, I found calorie counting worked for me before. I love playing dance central for xbox kniects such a fun way to work out, but usually my husband is here as he works from home so I can't really do it. I try To bike ride and elliptical but have had no motivation at all lately. Well hope everyone has a productive day! Hope to hear from about it later! |
Sounds like you got it all planned out.
As for dancing and not bothering your husband, is there at least once or twice a week where you could do itm? Like make plans to where he will either be out of the house or willing to join you? Oh elipticals are my favourite :D When doing the eliptical either watch tv or listen to music. If helps you keep your mind occupied so you're not focused on exercise. That's what I love when I'm at the gym at school, every stationary machine that focuses on legs has a television. I Went to eliptical for 2 miles once and was in the middle of a movie and Went about another halfmile just to finish or xD Also, I printed out a food/points/flex point sheet....Thought I'd see if you guys would be interested in using it? |
Sami- Thank you!! At times it has been rough, but I am so happy that I am down almost 70 pounds! That would be awesome to be able to buy a new dress for your birthday. I'm sure you will look great in it! And congrats on choosing a healthy option, I know that can be hard.
PudgyFellow- Congrats on your weight loss so far! I totally know how you feel. I too have been stalling because weekends are so bad for me. So many temptations. It's just mind over matter, though. It is good that you are back on track. When I exercise I don't always aim for a certain cal burn but when I do it's around 500-600 minimum. I always feel accomplished if I at least reach that. If not, that's ok too. At least I was moving! I do have MFP with the same username mirax3 :) I need to start using it again. How did your day go today? BreighRenee- I'm glad to hear you say you love ellipticals. I do too! I always feel like I get a good work out that is still low impact on my knees. I'm sure you will reach your goal. :) Thanks for the recipe, I love parfaits and I will have to try it. Today was good for me. I was very successful with my eating but I didn't get any exercise in. :( Tomorrow for sure! My current goal is to be well into the 170's by July 15th. Ultimately by the end of the summer, I want to be near to my goal of 165. How often do you guys weigh yourselves? |
Quote:
I'm 28 too, unmarried no kids, used to smoke too. I was about 140 to 150 lbs when smoking. Post smoking I'm at my highest weight ever: 175 lb Anyways I don't mind supporting. I'm always available online PM me anytime you like :):carrot: PS what type of Cigarettes did you used to smoke and When did you stop? |
Mirax3: you're so close, no way you could fail!
I personally try to only weigh myself once a week, but sometimes I do more than once a week. Just depends on the day, but I definitely don't like to every day |
Positive to each of you! How about we've a daily test to speak about the good and bad points we've done for the day. I do not actually understand the way to operate these forums to well yet. I do not know if there's a method to private message.
|
Hey All, another day, another milestone, yea?
PatriceChild: I don't think there's a set format here, but I kinda see it as a venting place :) We probably should log a motivation diary of some kind but I read all your comments here so I don't care if this grows to an insane number of pages. Anyhow, my day is just about over, and it wasn't too bad. I haven't listed what I consider to be a healthy diet yet, so here it is. Please feel free to comment in if you think I'm missing something: Breakfast - 3 tablespoons of raw whole oats soaked in rice milk (20ml) for about 1/2 hour. I usually just prepare this in an air tight container and eat it when I get to work. - 1 banana Mid morning breakfast - 33g can of tuna - 1 scoop whey protein shake approx. 30g (no sugars) Lunch - tuna with kidney beans, chickpeas and broad beans - 2 tablets fish oils - 2 tablets multi-vitamins Mid afternoon - 33g can of tuna Pre-workout - 400mg caffeine tablets - 1g L-Arginine tablets post-workout - 5g creatine - 1scoop whey protein shake Dinner - 1/4 cup cooked brown rice - 1/2 chicken breast (usually grilled/broiled with whatever spices I can find) - 1 cup broccoli occasionally I get really lazy eating this dinner as 1 cup of broccoli can be quite a lot, I just blend it into a soup, adding about 500ml of vege/chicken stock. surprisingly tasty. bridge meal (before sleep) - 1 scoop whey protein shake geez, reading the above, now I know why I binge eat on weekends.... I probably should be eating more fruits but I'm limiting my sugars, so I'm kind of hoping the multi vits will balance things out. I sometimes change the dinner and lunch around, or instead of broccoli, I have spinach, or both if I am short of both in the fridge. My wife eats the same as I in the evenings, minus the protein shakes and I'm glad she doesn't mind it at all. I rarely eat red meats these days as chicken is so much easier to pack for the next day. Please feel free to list your daily food consumption. I will be super interesting to see what you are doing to reach your goals. Mirax3: 500-600cals?!! wow!!! I sit on the spin cycle for 200cals and I call it. that usually takes me around 1/2 hour to do that. that's awesome! keep it up! I'll try for 300cals tomorrow morning. I usually(try) to cycle each morning and evening before bed. I don't do cardio in the evenings on Monday, Wednesday and Friday as I hit the gym with a buddy. Sunday is rest day, minus the binge eating!!! Lord give me strength! Cravings today: I'm dying for some patato chips Did I succumb: no! could have done better: drink more water. I only managed about 1.5 litres today. Talk tomorrow! Chris |

I jump on the scales everyday... it's a horrible habit but my curiosity gets the better of me. Especially the Monday,.. dum dum DUMMMM!!!! how much damage did I do? |

I can't PM yet cause I don't have enough posts but feel free to hang around this thread! |
So I must admit I didn't do really well yesterday :( Better then the day before but my husband brought junk food into the house and I am such a sucker, I don't know why it is so hard for me to say no. So I did pretty good with my meals but ended up snacking on Twizzlers and had a cookie.
I have to buck up for real! Going to get some more fruit today as I find that is a good way to curb my sweet attacks lol NO MORE JUNK SNACKS I SWEAR!!!! Mirax I think that is a very reasonable goal for you and you will have no problem getting there! You seem as tho you have a very strict regimen when it come to working out. What are you eat habits like do you count calories? I definitely have an unhealthy obsession with weighting myself and do it every time I go to work sometime like 5 times a week and lately it has only been getting worse. BreighRenee how did you do yesterday? So I just bought the new Dance central game and can't wait fir it to get here. Me and the hubby set a couple hours where I can play for exercise and he will join me too sometimes. :dizzy: I love watching my shows or movies when ellipticalling it makes the time fly. I will download the latest episode of gossip girl or something. I would be interested in the points sheets can you email them? Chris looks like you did great yesterday, you have thing very well planned out! That is one of my major downfalls not being able to plan meals and end up grabbing quick thoughtless choices. You have tons of protient which is awesome! I hope I can learn from your habits! How many calories does that equal for the day? Do you do any kinds of exercise? Well got myself a new bike seat yesterday as the other one sucked and made my butt hurt :hyper: and the sun is finally coming out around here so looks like I will go for a ride today. So far I have a had a cup of chocolate cherrios with skim milk and a BBQ turkey burger for lunch. Have a good day! |
First off HELLO THERE EVERYONE :)
Hope all is well. I want to say that I have an annoying habit of eating candy, so sometimes when I list what I've done, or how I've effed up for the day, it will involve candy. I've been trying to curb my sweet tooth though. Today I've been very good and haven't had any sweets. I woke up around 10ish, went running and came back. I'm sipping on water now. P.S. I ran a mile and a half in 20 minutes so I feel great :) Kay now let me respond to this: Quote:
Yeah ever since I stopped "hanging out" and partying cigarettes have been a none factor. I still sometimes get the urge though. I smoked for about 5 years. I started off with Marbolo Lights, then moved to Virginia Slims Menthol, then switched back to Marbolo Lights, and moved to ***wait for it*** Newports! Them thangs are addictive! I hate to say it, but my cigarette change reflects my social/economic status change as well lol. Anyway here is what I'm working with: http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...psfafa2845.jpg Yes its horror, but good news is I've got a plan team and I'm working on the first part of it now :D Support Group question: What are your thoughts on the Game of Thrones? |

WHO ARE YOU?! We're like the same person! This shizz is weird... |

I know about the snacking, it's horrible. 3 weeks ago, I went out to the supermarket to buy a couple of replacement bulbs. You'll expect to grab the bulbs and pay for it, 5 minutes tops. I spent 2 hours walking between the supermarket aisles arguing with myself about how I need to be discipline, but that box of chocolate biscuits are just so tasty, perhaps a rice cracker substitute might be the go? While I'm doing this, I've got the 2 light bulbs in my hand,... I finally walk past the magazine stand and there you have it, Men's Health Magazine staring me in the face with a picture of a ripped dude on the cover. Yes, I walked out but the craving was still there and it would sit in my mind for days. I don't know if my case is extreme or do you guys get that too, or do you simply just give in. Yes it's will power but if it festers in your mind for days, it's a pretty steep hill to climb. Perhaps I should have pictures of ripped dudes on my wall! lol. If you have a tactic to curb your cravings, I would love to know it! As for exercise, cardio is just spin cycling for about 1/2 hour, twice a day. Once in the morning before work and evenings before bed. As for the gym, I do weight training, separate body parts by doing compound exercises like bench press, squats, deadlifts to abs, arm, shoulder exercises. edit: regarding calories from my diet, it's around 1300-1500 per day. It's not a lot but it isn't long term. I'll cut for 3 months and start maintaining around 3000 once it's over. |

Ya I am Canadian so I don't know about newports lol I quit smoking because I work in a hospital and see people dying and sick everyday from smoking. So that made my mind up for me. I don't really crave them anymore, but I think I have replaced them with sweets so that no good. We will do this girlfriend!! just gotta stick together! |
Hey Pudgy good job on the exercise everyday! Man I really wish I had that kind of discipline! I did go for a bike ride today went about 6km, not too far but it was a good workout, it been a while since I've gone riding. Hope all your hard works pays off and lets agree to only weigh ourselves once a week.

All the best ladies for the rest of the week! |
Kay I have a terrible habit of sleeping at 5 amish that I am trying to break.
I stayed up all last night(no surprise there) and just got back from a mile run(half a mile run there, and half a mile walk back). Now I was not sleepy at all last night. I was wide awake all the way until 5:20 this morning. I pushed through it though cause I really want to get my sleep pattern in order. Of course now I'm getting really tired, and its starting to affect my body a bit. I ran all the way there without any problems. On my way back I walked, and towards the last 2 blocks I started feeling like I was gonna pass out! I started running real fast towards the end because I was not sure if I was truly going to faint or have some other problem. I made it in, but I still feel funny. Regardless of how I was feeling I wasn't going to miss my running time, because I am making it a daily thing. I'll start strength/weight training in a couple of weeks. Anyway just an update. Take care everyone. |
IJustCant| I'm the exact same on the sleeping habits which then makes me end up late-night snacking. :(
I just weighed myself. Am down to 277/278 (the scale varied between the two) Pretty stoked. How's everyone else's goals coming along? P.S. I will get that WWpts sheet uploaded later tonight :) |

Regular sleep is essential for weight loss. I've posted a link to an article in the title as I'm under 25 post. Please do read it. You'll need to get your regular sleep pattern back before you consider doing weight training as it will be dangerous and counter productive. However I do admire your determination on running, but I am worried you are wearing yourself thin. |

come home early today, was tempted to get some KFC on the way home. Didn't! |
PudgyFellow| good news on not being tempted on kfc!
Thank you as well and WWpts is just short for WeightWatchers points :) |
Hey everyone!!!
Good for you breigh!!! Thats awesome! And Pudgy not going for the KFC.....that great your willpower inspires me! So bad news for me I don't know what the **** is wrong with me......so friggin frustrated!! I went from 176 to 180 apparently.......:( I am going to lose my mind soon........ I went for a bike ride on Tuesday with me new extra supportive extra comfy seat and it exacerbated a recurrent medical problem I have with my tailbone. So that put me outta exercising for the rest of week as I am in alot of pain. So I pretty much just sat around eating twizzlers, feeling like I wanna give up  Sorry for being such a debbie downer....... |
Samiannie| don't be discouraged! I too have been in that mood. I put on about 0.3 lbs the last few days
Which doesnt seem much but its not going according to plan. I blame mothernature :( |
Quote:
I just weighed myself today and it does appear that I've lost 2 pounds. :carrot: I made my fat camp fitness goal, but I still feel very sickly. I felt so sickly on Wednesday that I went to google(Cyberchondria much?) and felt as though it was runner induced anemia. All the symptoms were and are there. I'm not certain though cause I'm spotting as well (or I was) so it could be a combination of me starting my period, not eating right, sleep deprivation, and over working out. Now I am just not able to work out at all without getting dizzy. I skipped Thursday completely, and tried working out yesterday to a simple Tae Bo tape. I stopped after doing neck turns because I was getting dizzy again. I really hate not being able to work out, but I feel absolutely lightheaded when I do. I bought some Natures's Plue Chewable Iron supplements and I'm going to see how I do this week, but if I still can't work out I'm going to the doctor. Sorry are you a woman, Pudgey Fellow? If not I still love ya , I'll just feel uber weird about mentioning my spotting. :dizzy: |
where is everyone? still doing well?
|
I don't know about everyone else, but I'm down to 170 lbs! Thats a full 5 lbs lost!!!
Now granted I was working out pretty hard towards the end of May/Early June. Then I had my various health issues which have not exactly cleared, but I've started up with Tae Bo again. I can't do it all the way through without my heart feeling like its going to burst out of my chest. I've decided to do it this way. I'm going to work out to Tae Bo 2 times per day for 10 minutes of the part that I know I can do. This way I don't get sick and I still get some exercise in. I'll come back here when I make it to 165 lbs. I've got to do very low impact so I'm very doubtful that I'll get back into full on weight lifting. I was on my way there. I was doing Tae Bo, then added running, and then in July I was going to start with weight training. And I don't just mean 5 lbs, I was going to be in there with the 15 and 20 lb weights, because that how I was taught to do it. But I think my heart was mildly damaged a couple of weeks ago. No matter, I'm still going to lose the weight. Does anyone know of any inspirational female trainer on youtube? I've been watching a lot of weight lifting docs, and trainer vloggers, but I have yet to come across a female workout vlogger(who talks). Don't get me wrong there are a lot for female work out videos on youtube like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OdQitd5kOpI But no one in these videos every really talks or brings that real aspect/inspirational aspect to youtube like the guys do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0bm3RE4v2o If I wanted to just look at a workout and had no questions this would be great, but I do have questions about my workout, food I'm eating, etc. Would be nice if there was an Fitspirational Female Vlogger out there on Youtube that I could watch and listen to. P.S. Just in case anyone is wondering: I have not changed my diet. I have tried putting things like carrots in my soups, but carrots are pretty darn groady. The only thing I've really done consistently for a month is work out! |
