So I just started dieting on the first. I am not doing a set diet, it's low (NO processed) carb, but it's not atkins. It's high protein, but it's not IP. Anyway, I'm not feeling to well today so I decided I was not going to cook dinner, and my room mate "convinced" me to just order food. We ordered from this greasy spoon I used to frequent and I ordered an egg beaters omelette (with ham and mushrooms and a little cheese), a side of sliced tomatoes and half an avocado. Doesn't sound like the worst thing to get at a greasy spoon right?
BUT I AM FREAKING OUT! I'm trying to at least roughly count my calories and I haven't the slightest idea how to count that.
Does anyone else have a panic attack if they don't prepare their own food. Btw, the only other thing I ate today was a grapefruit and a hard boiled egg. I just cannot get over that I ate out this soon into the diet.
Well, eating out is part of most people's lives, so incorporating it into your lifestyle can be a good way to 'train' yourself to make good choices.
Well the grapefruit was probably about 150 calories depending on how big.
The hard-boiled egg is around 80.
So that's only 230 calories. Your dinner would have had to be like 1800 calories to even put you at just over 2000 calories -- which with your weight and height wouldn't even likely be maintenance for you.
Don't stress.
The eggbeaters was probably around 100 calories (depending on the size, they're really just eggwhites).
The vegetables are nuthin', put them at 50.
Ham, hmm not sure. Let's round up putting it at 150.
Cheese, say they piled it on and put 3 ounces on there, that would be about 300 calories.
Half avocado hmm, they have a lot of (good) fat. Say 100 calories depending on the size.
So even rounding UP, the dinner is at 700. It IS a greasy spoon, so say they make the egg with a tablespoon of grease on the skillet. 120 more calories.
I'm rounding UP here and saying the meal was maybe 800 calories. That with what you ate earlier takes you to under 1100 calories for the day.
That should still give you a couple/few hundred to play with if you want a snack later. Like I said, given your weight and heigh you likely have a higher allowance for weight loss than say someone starting at 175lbs or something.
Don't stress. If you're being totally honest with yourself you are totally fine here in my humble opinion.
Even if you judge the meal at 1000 (and I personally think that's an over-estimation, but they could have used more fat on the skillet or whatever) you've only had just over 1200 for the day. You could still have 2-400 calories more for a snack (if you're hungry) and be on point for the day depending on your personal allowance.
Don't feel guilty! Eating out is part of life and if this is for life you're going to have to learn how to navigate these situations and make smart choices! It sounds like you did fine!
It does ease my mind thank you! And I forgot, I actually saved half of it for my snack later (I snack before bed, that's one thing I can't give up...yet)
Thanks. Unfortunately our friend came over, and now they're ordering pizza. I'm not going to eat any but...I sleep in the living room...and I have no where to go to avoid watching them eat it :/
Hmm, eat your other half while they are eating the pizza? Have any hobbies? Play a game on your phone or computer to distract yourself? Just all ideas.
PS- please be careful of eating and drinking right before bed. I learned the hard way that it can lead to acid reflux and/or hiatal hernias. Wait an hour or two after eating to lay down inbed.
Hah yeah I might play a couple video games, and when I say I eat before bed, I usually eat, then read for a couple of hours or watch a show, THEN sleep. I usually have a small snack around 9:30-10 and am asleep by midnight. AND HAH I had the first half of the omelette at 5, so I had the second half at 8. Just going to grin and bear it.
