Well fudge. LOL

Yeah, I do understand that it's not 'just' bad eating habits. Although I've been told my gallbladder attacks were my gallbladder spasming (sp), not gall stones. I would assume there is a difference? ( I am very ignorant of these issues)

Anyway, thanks everyone for the input. I probably will have it out as soon as there is a good opportunity to do so. I don't want to be in an emergency situation, and I've had enough gallbladder attacks to know that the pain is WAY beyond intense.

Awww, the joys of getting old. LOL

I'd talk to your doctor but from my understanding, gall bladder attacks happen because your gall bladder activates due to a fatty meal, but you have gall stones and those gall stones may get dislodged and have to travel through small ducts. I am not sure if you can get gall bladder attacks without the presence of stones.

I remember one time I had an attack that hurt for days after. My doctor did prescribe me anti-spasm medication but mostly because I was going on a trip to China and was worried about what would happen if I had an attack during my trip. I never used the anti-spasm medication though.

I had gall bladder problems when very young. I don't think it is a function of getting old.

Good luck.

Also, isn't very low fat supposed to be bad for gallbladders too? You need fat to process so the sludge doesn't just sit in there.

Whether you realize it or not, when you have a diseased gallbladder it can make you not well in other areas or just in general not at all 100%. I didn't know that until I had my gb removed had badly I really felt. I thought I was fine when not having an attack, boy did I feel "finer" once it was removed.

I have gallbladder problems too and I feel like they do keep me in check. So far my attacks are not as terrible but they do wake me up at night.

With time I've learned that my attacks are trigger by a high fat/high carb meal.

While doing Atkins induction, I ate high fat/moderate protein/very low carb and I never had a problem. I felt the best during that time. But, if I have a big plate of pasta with some heavy sauce, I KNOW that it will keep me up all night.

Again, my attacks are not super bad but they are painful.

I don't know what kind of pain you have when you have these 'attacks' but for me, my gall bladder attacks were worse than labor -- and I had two completely unmedicated home births LOL

I had my issues when I was a teen -- and I wasn't even *that* overweight then (though I was overweight). The pain was absolutely unbearable stabbing and I seriously wanted to die. I had my gall bladder removed when I was about 15, tiny scars that aren't noticable at all.

At the time, I didn't have anything to compare the pain to but years later when I did have my kids I did... and yup, I'd give birth any day of the week before that (My kids were 8 and 9lbs respectively lol). I've also broken bones and the pain didn't hold a candle to the gall bladder pain.

Since having it out in my teens I've never had an issue losing weight or even eating fatty foods or anything. My health has been perfect even as a fat person. I am a very natural, holistically-minded person so I'm not one to run around recommending surgery but I'd have it out again in a *millisecond* that's how bad the pain was (not to drive the point home LOL).

I only ever gained weight because I ate more calories than I was burning. I have zero GI issues, zero problem eating fat, zero problem losing weight (when I stick to plan).

I think if it's not causing you issues now it's fine to take a 'wait and see' approach. For me, the pain was way too much to deal with.
