The carb ghost of Christmas past

  • So yesterday christmas was lovely, hope everyone had a good one! But I indulged in carbs mostly rolls but the dinner I made and was heavy in veggies,
Did have red potatos in it tho. So I step on the scale this morning and it wasnt that bad, 185 when the previous day I was 186.2 .. Now are those carbs gonna come back and haunt me? Or is the damage done and I just drink some water and keep on doing what I'm doing. Not sure on how carbs fully fully work. Explanation?
  • I don't know how carbs work, but it sounds to me like you did really well. A lot better than I did. I made chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies to take to the neighbors. I did quite a bit of sampling along the way.
  • It can take up to a week for our indiscretions to show up on the scale.
  • re:
Non scientifically, I've found for me that the morning after carbfest is still pretty good and I don't see the gain until the 2nd day (tomorrow in this case) and it takes probably a good week to get the water off.

That's me though. I've purposely decided to not weigh until maybe this weekend this year - doubt if I'll make it that long.
  • Very interesting, I have a feeling I ate at maitence, but sodium and carbs can be a pain
  • In my personal experience 1 day of high carbs don't do anything to me weight wise, it actually starts moving things in my digestive system (if you know what I mean...) To see a gain for me, I have to do high carbs for at least 3 days and that's when I see the bloating and water weight back on the scale...
  • If I've been keeping my carbs on the lower side for me, which I've been doing recently... It took about 2 days of higher carbs (but nothing too crazy...) for the water weight to show up on the scale... Which I'm usually prepared for, although I was a little surprised by how much the scale bumped up considering that I really didn't over do it...

The one thing that has been a bit of a drag... is that I'm having some residual cravings that haven't been an issue in the past when I've done this before... And I'm not exactly feeling super motivated to get right back on track... I think it's gonna take being pretty strict again for probably a week or so, to get the scale back to where it was...

Don't get me wrong, it could have been a lot worse... But I'm just not sure I want to keep putting myself through this... even if it is only a "baby" roller coaster ride... I could probably think of a few better ways to spend the next week... Not to mention I'd much rather come into the New Year not having to deal with a few silly "water" weight pounds... That I'm just not sure were really worth it... Oh, well... what can you do...?
  • I actually find that as long as its not too often, a high-calorie/high-carb detour from my normal low-carb eating actually can push my weight loss along! As long as its only a day detour and as long as I get right back on track. I think sometimes it sparks you metabolism to do something a little different from teh norm for a day every so often. You may be fine and might not have hurt anything.
