I had lots of "bony" problems at first. But after a year of maintenance, the problem has diminished greatly. I think we get used to it or our bodies adjust. I had tailbone issues so bad I thought I was never going to be able to sit on a hard seat again, but it's fine now.
As for the bed, I'd really look into a new one. I bought a new mattress a couple years before I lost weight because I really needed one. How the heck can you tell how it's really going to be by lying on it for a couple minutes in the store? They should lock you in and let you sleep the night! Anyway, I thought I had made a huge mistake. My back hurt every morning, I tossed and turned. (I did that in the old bed, too - figured I should have saved my money!) Now that I'm at a pretty normal weight, this bed is wonderful. All that said, I think the adjustable type beds might be the best bet - they can be adjusted for 2 people, and also adjusted as needed to meet changes in what feels good to each at a particular time. Good luck.
