what was your biggest gain in a year?

im pretty ashamed of the 40 lbs i gained in a year before restarting. wondering what other peoples worst year looked like?

AmyAmy 09-19-2012 07:58 PM

28 pounds was my worst. It was so frustrating because at the beginning of the year, after working do hard, I had managed to get to my lowest weight ever, and throughout the year I put it all back on and then some.

Thedollylala 09-19-2012 08:04 PM

Probaly 30 lbs I'm honestly not 100% sure

gardenerjoy 09-19-2012 08:28 PM

Mine matched yours. 40 pounds. Maybe it's the regional water supply?

LockItUp 09-19-2012 08:36 PM

50! It took me about 9 months to lose that 50, then I put it ALL back in in LESS than a year!

If you count one of my pregnancies -- I had lost down to 175 then gained 20 before getting pregnant then 43 during my pregnancy for a total of 63 pounds in less than a year. BUT since pregnancy is expected to add weight I don't know if that quite counts.

Arctic Mama 09-19-2012 09:08 PM

I honestly don't know! I weighed 180 before college and was 240 for my first pregnancy, but that was a three year gap. I honestly don't know when I gained what, but I'm assuming most of that came on between dating and baby (which was a year and a half).

I didn't weigh or have any real inkling of my size for several years, I honestly have no data before I began this journey, and I haven't had a regain of more than ten pounds during the course of it since. Occasionally I get lazy and start sliding up the scale but I always catch myself early and fix it, which makes things easier :)

It's very frightening how fast you can gain it back! It was like that November I was in the 140s and by that August I was in the 190s. And for no other reason than my insane eating! My gosh it just makes me cringe!

JohnP 09-19-2012 09:39 PM

I'm not sure but I do know over a period of threee months back in 1998 I went from my pants fitting well to not being able to put them on.

Prim2012 09-19-2012 10:03 PM

I gained 50 pounds my freshman year in college. I had gotten my weight down for my senior year of highschool through a low cal, high protein diet (lots of boiled eggs and greenbeans) but that first year in college it was eating out for every meal. A regular day would be McDonald's for breakfast, a medium pepperoni and sausage pizza with extra cheese for lunch, stuffed burritos for dinner and a quart of ice cream for dessert plus snacks. It was crazy and I was unrecognizable by relatives and others who hadn't seen me in a year because I gained so quickly. I did lose about 30 pounds the following year but college was really the start of my weight being out of control.

berryblondeboys 09-19-2012 10:20 PM

I lost 50 pounds in 1997-1998. As soon as I hit the 50 pound mark, something snapped (I now realize that lack of sleep was a HUGE part of it - I had a baby who didn't sleep, was working out of the home, commuting 2 hours every day plus the job 40 hours a week, my mother in law was half living with us as she was moving to the US and needed to get set up and my husband was doing his PhD in a very rigorous program at Wharton. I was trying to do it ALL and I fell apart - I was barely sleeping and survived on sugar - basically).

I think I gained 70 or 80 in one year. I kid you not. I'm not sure... All I know is I went from 185 to 275 - 90 pounds in 3 years, but most of it was the first year... probably 70.

I fortunately have learned the biggest lesson for me - sleep is crucial CRUCIAL. Every major weight gain I've ever had was during times I had little/bad sleep. That time there and when my second son was a baby until 3 years old (who I now know is autistic) He woke up 5-7 times a night - every single night until he was 3 and he couldn't resettle. Some nights he was up half the night, which meant I was up half the night, and then from ages 3-4 it slowly dwindled... I think that's when my health all went to H-E-Double toothpicks. He's now 7.

alaskanlaughter 09-19-2012 10:30 PM

the biggest weight gain ive had was about 60 pounds when i was pregnant with my son at age 19...i was poor, ate like crap, ate junk food, and was morning-sick constantly...the biggest weight gain i've seen aside from pregnancy was about 25-30 pounds a few years ago over the holidays, when i decided to start this current health journey

shishkeberry 09-19-2012 10:31 PM

I honestly have no idea. I didn't pay attention to it at all as a child/teen, but I remember weighing in at 220 when I was 17. Both of the significant gains I've had since were from pregnancies. Come to think of it, I think I gained it all rather slowly. The 220s seem to be like a stair landing for me, though. I keep getting here again and I don't struggle to maintain it.

Vls6984 09-19-2012 10:40 PM

Oh yeah I did it

I gained 80 pounds in a year.

penmage 09-19-2012 11:12 PM

Maybe 15-20? I know in the course of 3 years with my ex, I was up 50 pounds. And I know that in less than 2 months, I gained 14 pounds (while trying to actually LOSE weight!)

drixnot 09-20-2012 01:41 AM

30 when I quit smoking.

JossFit 09-20-2012 04:58 AM

I gained about 50 pounds in a 6-7 month timeframe in 2008. Divorce can do that to ya!

kathie67 09-20-2012 05:07 AM

Probably about 50-60 when I quit smoking

inkleberry75 09-20-2012 07:32 AM

I lost 90 pounds in 1999- got a divorce, got pregnant AGAIN and gained about 25. I then moved and yo yo dieted, gaining about 35-my ex husband died (early this year)Devastating our children and I (we were always the best of friends) and I gained about 40-I sabotage my efforts daily to lose weight.....feel like an obsessive dieter with no success, a food hoarder of sorts-

juliastl27 09-20-2012 02:09 PM

all the "quit smoking" posts are scary, as ive been considering trying to quit!

i feel like i gained weight FASTER after i lost a bunch.. but maybe it just seemed that way since i had finally gotten to goal and then it all started coming back

gardenerjoy 09-20-2012 02:29 PM

juliastl: now, you know we'll be here to help you quit smoking and lose weight at the same time. Go for it! :)

Mimzzy 09-20-2012 02:45 PM

I am ashamed to admit that I gained 30lbs this year already and the dang year is not even finished... However I have taken back control of my eating and exercising so hopefully it will stay at 30lbs.

Samantha18 09-20-2012 05:51 PM

I gained 70 pounds in under a year when I was younger and in 8th grade, going from 170 to 240. I remember it because I went from chubby to obese and the weight never did come off.

IsabellaOlivia 09-20-2012 06:35 PM

I already regained 16 this year between may and August...

No exercise and never having an idea of what constitues a portion size will do that.

kellost 09-21-2012 10:19 AM

Almost 50 in 2 years. Although since May, I feel I've been packing it on quite rapidly, and I don't know why. Well, overeating. But I don't know why it seems to have happened so fast over the summer.

susiefleshner 10-02-2012 11:06 AM

I've gained 32 pounds in on year *sighs*

Elladorine 10-02-2012 01:51 PM

I gained 100 pounds between 2002-2003. I kid you not. Which was on top of already being 100 pounds overweight! :o I'd found myself in an abusive relationship, and eating was more than just trying to escape or distract myself, the ex constantly threw fits if I didn't join in on his pigging out. It was easier to cave in than get involved in yet another fight.

Never again.

Smiling_Sara 10-02-2012 01:53 PM

Well, I caught it at 21 pounds. Would of been a year if I waited till Thanksgiving. And by then who knows what the number would of been.

Pink Hurricane 10-02-2012 02:08 PM

47 lbs from July 2011-July 2012

I basically gained 30 of it from July 2011- December 2011, maintained around 205-215 then put on the last bit from March 2012-July 2012, putting me at 231.

mariposssa 10-02-2012 02:12 PM

I don't know about the whole year thing because when I go off plan I tend to not get on the scale. I did gain 35-40 pounds in just a little over a month once!! It was when I had a never ending cycle that lasted longer than a month. My hormones and thyroid went CRAZY and I was diagnosed with PCOS and hypothyroid. I could only wear sweat pants and dresses because none of my jeans or dress pants fit.

toastedsmoke 10-03-2012 08:00 AM

40 lbs. I gained 40 lbs my freshman year, pretty much stayed the same weight all through college give or take 10 lbs. Then I gained another 40 lbs my first year in grad school.

So yeah lesson: 40 lbs in a year is pretty much my record and lesson 2, I don't do too well with changing academic environment.

novangel 10-03-2012 10:06 AM

Oh Lord. I had a desk job in 2003 before I went back to Dental Assisting. I went from 143 to 174 in a matter of months. I have never eaten Quiznos since. That was awful. :(

Me too, when I was pregnant. It took me exactly one year to take off that 80lbs!

novangel 10-03-2012 10:35 AM

When I got down to 143p after having my son in 2002 my skin looked much better then than it does now after carrying the 174p for a few years. I really screwed my mid-section with all these weight fluxuations. :(

PinkLotus 10-03-2012 12:10 PM

I gained 50lbs in the year after meeting my husband. We spent that year eating out constantly. I gained 50, he gained 5!!
I also gained 60lbs when I was pregnant with my daughter...but I don't count that.

I lost weight when I quit! I finally took up running, maybe partially because I could breathe.

Garnet2727 10-03-2012 06:17 PM

I gained 50 pounds the year I quit smoking.

mimsyborogoves 10-04-2012 09:36 PM

I put on 40lbs during my freshman year in college, between 2008 and 2009. Took me 3 years to lose that. What I'm working on now is the extra 100-110lbs that took me my first 13 years of life to gain and carry around for another 9.

olleharr 10-04-2012 09:48 PM

I gained 50 last year. :(
