This is essentially how I eat in maintenance. I'd rather have three decent sized meals a day than break it up into a bunch of smaller ones like many diets currently recommend. I think this may be a great method for people with not much to lose, but I don't think that I'd have gotten to my current weight using those guidelines. At the very least it would have taken me a whole lot longer.
This would never work for me. I don't snack or eat much sugar but I like to eat big portions. 3 meals a day is inferior to 2 large meals a day, for me.
One thing I do wonder about (didn't read his whole page) is if he talks about portion size. No seconds is fine but plates are a pretty standard size so what might not be enough for me might be far too much for a 5'0" inactive female.

I think he deliberately chooses not to get into such prescriptive details (e.g., use an 8-inch diameter plate if you weigh less than X), because his whole approach rests on using common sense. If a 5'0" inactive female wants to cheat the system by using very large plates, she's only cheating herself (and knows it deep down). So I guess I would say No S is most suitable for people who are ready to be honest with themselves.

I'm not talking about people manipulatng plate size I'm simply pointing out that the energy needs of people vary ... but plate size not so much. If he doesn't talk about portion size ... so be it.
I was using plate size as a proxy for portion size.
I lost over 50 pounds doing the No-S diet. It appealed to me because there are no specific forbidden foods. No sweets on weekdays (not a huge problem for me b/c I am not a big sweet eater -- case in point, it is almost Halloween, and I just opened a bag of Easter candy), but they're fine on weekends or "S" days. The basic premise of the No-S diet is simple, even simplistic, but that is the beauty of it.
No discussion of portion size beyond plate size. There are discussions about specific plate sizes among adherents, and different things work for different people. There are many "advance No-S" ideas out there too.
i agree that this seems like an idea i might use for maintenance, but even then im not sure. i cant seem to ever do the intuitive eating or anything where im not tracking. apparently my intuition when it comes to food is WAY off.
I definitely don't think all things will work for all people -- whether it be an eating plan or a TV show.
Folks who are interested in No-S should read their forums (at Everyday Systems.) There are dozens of people who have discussed "tweaks" and who might combine No-S with say, Atkins.
