Sitting on the couch in front of the tv, stuffing my face and binging made me gain weight over a course of doing it for 25-ish years.

A dislike of excercising or will to move in general. I'm just lazy, and I'd rather be sitting at home than running around town most of the time unless I'm really in the mood to shop. And it's so hard to get the motivation to exercise, grr. But I need to learn to love it.

Dieting? Every time I start a plan, and then go off it, I gain back everything I lost PLUS 10 MORE POUNDS before I stop rapidly gaining. It's the main way I've gained so much weight, because 5 failed attempts = 50 pounds. It's more incentive to stay on track, because I know if I go off plan I'm going to end up bigger than when I started.

For me, it's my perfectionistic mentality. I'm all or nothing. Either I'm eating 100% on plan or I fall off the deep end. Sometimes my binges are for only one meal but I've had binges last for weeks and even months....once I gain that much weight rapidly, I can just throw in the towel and just not care (suppress any feelings of concern, of course) and eat anything I want. I've gotten much better but that's how it has been for years and years.

My typical binge foods: Nutella, chocolate, bread with butter, pizza, ribs, nuts, peanut butter, cereal, cake, pastries and ice cream.

Minus the ribs and the cereal from the binge foods, this is me to a T!

For me it was comfort eating! I would eat when I was sad, happy, bored... the list goes on! Luckily I've realised it in time and am trying to reign it in.

My main reason of overeating was stress and depression.

These two psychological conditions are getting linked with obesity more and more every day..

Emotional eating, lack of will power etc.

I gained 45+ lbs in about a year during grad school due to the following:
1. lots of booze/beer...all weekend and sometimes into the week.
2. Lots of bbqs/bar food/restaurant food/pizza...and then taco bell after drinking.
3. failing to workout at all except...walking to the bar/above places.

I wasn't just sitting around, I was out drinking and eating constantly when I wasn't studying. Weight came off fairly quickly when I corrected those behaviors. But now, it's mostly due to having things around I can graze on: chips and those little individual candy bars are so bad. I can add an extra 300 cals onto my total just by snacking on those throughout the day. And I found out it seriously impedes my progress if I eat lunches out more than like once a week, even if I order healthy food.

Boredom, and watching TV (either on the TV set itself or the PC). This makes me feel like grazing like mad.

Hm. In fact, anything where my hands and mind aren't properly busy, in fact. I don't count "TV" in "keeping my mind busy", it's too passive for that. Same goes for a family (or other) meal where I'm bored (I'll eat to help kill the time).

Oddly enough, being tired makes me lose my appetite.

pizza.... and chocolate
