Is 10 pounds always the same??

  • I was down to 146lbs, then regained 10 lbs...I am in the process of losing it, but I noticed at this weight 10 pounds is a lot more noticable in my body and clothes.
When I was nearer my heaviest weight, I'd have to lose at least 20lbs to even think about getting into the next size. Also, I notice it took a lot more for my weight loss (or gain) to be noticable.
Now, 10lbs, has push me from a comfortable size 8 to a size 10..the 8s don't even zipper. And its really noticable! Like my back fat is back! I also remember when I was 150lbs and lost only 5 lbs down to 145, people really noticed, an I noticed a difference naked

Has anyone else noticed this? I didn't think 10 pounds could do so much damage!
  • I've noticed the same thing. I lost down to 142 (saw that for maybe a second, I was really still bouncing up to 145 at the time) and then regained to 158. I went from a comfortable 8 to only my stretchy jeans 10s plus my only pair of 12s. It's such a big difference. I felt great at 142, and now have a hard time not being discouraged because I know how I felt just 10 pounds from here, and those darn 10 pounds refuse to leave now. I try to remember where I started, and realize that I'm so much better off now, even with the regain.
  • Yep, before getting pregnant with my now 4yo, I found that 5lbs was the difference between jeans fitting/on the loose side and being uncomfortably tight. Several sizes bigger, it's more like 10+lbs per size.
  • Bodies definitely lose and gain differently. I recently read an interview from Mila Kunis who played Natalie Portman's opposite in The Black Swan. She had to drop a ton of weight (on her already slim figure!) for the role and after the movie wrapped up, she regained the weight and it went to all different parts of her body and said her body was not the same as it was before.

My body in the 130s right now is definitely flabbier and 'bigger' than when I was in the 130s years ago during my first weight loss . I was much more trim and could fit into size 6 pants. At the same weight now, I am wearing 8s-10s!
  • makes sense that 10 pounds when you are smaller is a much larger percentage of your body
