  • lol. so, i'm nervous as **** about being a bridesmaid. the wedding is in August 2012 so I guess i have plenty of time to lose weight and look and feel great... but i'm sort of giving myself a goal... which scares me because then I have the opportunity to fail. if I fail I'll be really pissed and then the chances of quitting are higher. ugh! since it's my youngest brother's wedding... i know I'll be surrounded by lots of family and lots of 20-somethings that are still rocking hot bods (his fiancé is a dancer and all her friends are dancers)... so yeah... the pressure is on. I'm at 180 now and it would be great to be 140 by August though I would be happy with 150 too. My original goal was 140 by jan 2013 so do you think I can move it up to August of 2012 or is that too crazy? I don't want to do anything to drastic and end up flaking out because I pushed too hard. I already have the dress (size 14) and luckily it can be taken in 2 sizes w/o problem. Plus it's a little snug already. The dress is forgiving since it is off the shoulder and long to the ground. here's a pic link ...oops cant post link cause i'm too new. you can see it by searching alfred angelo style 6546.
  • Wow, that's a lot of pressure!! But that dress, Girl, is gorgeous!!! If I'm calculating right, you would like to lose roughly 5 pounds a month. That is a very reasonable goal! It's going to take some hard work and some dedication, but you can do that! You're not going to fail!! Any loss is success!

The question is, what is your plan? Diet alone? Exercise? Any particular diet?

I have to say, my 168 pound frame looks much better than previous and even lighter versions of myself due to exercise. I would definitely incorporate some physical time in to your weight loss regimen. Then, even if you end up not reaching that goal, you're still gonna' look great!

I use Bodybugg, and I count calories and exercise. I found my weight loss efforts to improve with my Bugg. I was going nowhere, but since using Bodybugg in August, I've lost 16 pounds, which amounts to roughly 3 pounds a month.
  • I think that's a great goal! If you do some diet and exercise, you can really be well on your way to losing the weight. I started Monday with a diet and exercise plan. It's Friday and I'm down 2 pounds. It gets hard sometimes but you just have to push through it. You can read all about everything that I did and the workout I'm using, The Firm Express, which I think has really helped me shed inches already! Hope to hear from you!!

It's so great to see all the comments.

Twinieten, My plan is to track calories with MYFitnessPal and keep under 1460 cal/day; exercise everyday even if all I do is push ups and get decent sleep each night. All three goals are pretty challenging for me. The calorie counting is actually going really well and since JAN 1st I have exercised daily... although, sometimes it's justs squats and sit ups. The only one i haven't been consistent with is sleep and I think that is key so i've been frustrated there. I'm not on a diet plan but I'm semi vegetarian (I eat fish but not poultry, beef or pork) and my husband can't have gluten... so our house is usually pretty carb and junk free. My weakness is cookies from Christmas that are in my freezer. i limit myself to one/day but i probably shouldn't eat them at all. I bought cross country ski equipment but we don't have enough snow. so, my plan to work out outside failed thus far. I should fire up the treadmill but i get so bored on that thing! Twin, thanks for the encouragement. it was very helpful. I'm checking into the Bugg thing you mentioned too.

AlexandraJoy, Thanks for sharing your blog. I read it and found it was helpful to me to hear your story so far. Seems like you have a great attitude! I'd be happy to chat again.

Quote: OP I'm facing the same ordeal because I will be the maid of honor at my sisters wedding in Sept. 2012 ...
Deltawifey, We are in the same boat! It's funny when I went for the fitting I felt like a giant. My brother's fiance is only about 4'10" or so and her friends are about the same height... so, my weight is only part of the reason I'll be self conscience standing with the wedding party infront of the 200 plus people they invited to the wedding. My saving is grace is the forgiveness of that dress. I thanked the bride profusely for finding such a lovely gown that can flatter any body type. Do you know what your dress will look like?

    DocAuD!

I really got bored when I just did treadmill for an hour or elliptical for an hour. It's hard, it's annoying, and it's really really redundant. That's one reason I love the workout dvds, honestly. With the 20 minute ones I have it's like I blink and I'm done, and they don't repeat anything. Theres obviously other ones out there, too - but these have been my most favourite to date! I also got Brazilian Butt Lift for when I'm done this round, and I'm going to couple that workout with Slim in 6 to see how I do =). But hey - one at a time.

  • Sounds like a great plan, and it sounds like you're already doing great! Moving every day has to be the hardest, and if you can just do that little something, you're doing good! Sometimes I don't get around to a real workout either, but like you, I try to get some sit ups and push ups in at some point. Just something.
  • I'm going to be a bridesmaid in August too!!!! Aaaaahhhh!!!
Unfortunately, we already had to order our dresses (last September) because the bride loved the dresses and they were part of the 2011 collection and was afraid they'd be taken off the racks.
My dress should get here anytime now....but I've already lost at least 15 pounds from the time I ordered it! So we'll see if the dress runs small at all....and by the time August comes around, anything could happen. I might need some major refitting done for it, or for all I know I might be back up to a horrible weight. We'll just have to see!
Best of luck to you! You'll look great!

AlexandraJoy, you make a great point. DVD programs may be a great way to get the workout and not get bored. Did you find the DVDs at a good bargain anywhere in particular?

Twinieten, Agreed! something is better than nothing. Still waiting on that snow so I can do the cross country skiing thing.

Rapunzel, I hope you stay positive! That is half the battle. I started logging into 3FC every day to make myself more accountable and to remind myself of why I'm doing this. I check into the January Challenge for 30-something to share what I've done each day. It's helped since somethings I may be thinking I don't want to do goals and then I realize that I don't want to log in with nothing to share. Good luck on your goals. I'll check on you from time to time and see how you're progressing.
  • got my bridesmaid dress today. Fits perfect at this point. I'm sure I'll be weighing-in at least 25 less by August at my current rate (which is about 10 lbs in six weeks). I guess we will see how well they can alter my dress when the time comes. I shouldn't worry right? As it is it has to be hemmed so it has to be altered no matter what my measurements are. How are you other bridesmaids doing?
  • I will be a bridesmaid in my best friend's wedding in January 2013! This will be the first wedding I've been a part of (besides my own) and I'm excited but nervous. There will only be two of us bridesmaids and the other one has a supermodel body, tall and super thin (seriously, she was asked to try out for ANTM! Haha).

The dresses haven't been picked out yet, so I hope I have time to lose the bulk of my weight by the time we order them. It's definitely great motivation to lose these last few pounds!
  • And I'm going to be the bride. I'm doing my best to get as low as I can by March 31, and I am pushing it hard. Right now I'm in that "losing inches" stage but holding fairly steady on the weight. That's ok though, it's the look, not the weight.

Delta, you have a great attitude without an actual goal weight in mind. It seems we have so little actual control over what our bodies decide to do. I must admit, I'm hoping for at least 150 for my big day and I'm trying really hard to get there. I wish I had your attitude because I'm afraid I'm going to feel like a failure if it doesn't happen. I can't help it though. I usually have your attitude, but this time 150 is stuck in my head. I think it's because I got down to 145 in May and have steadily gained back up.
  • Ugh. I was a bridesmaid at a wedding a couple of weeks ago. There were 5 bridesmaids and all of them--and the bride--were 5'5 or shorter. 2 are 5'0. All of them--the other bridesmaids and the bride are downright thin--on the low side of normal. I was a giant looming monster bridesmaid. We just got access to the photos and some of them just cracked me and dh up. There are all these tiny petite women and then me looming over everyone with huge boobs and giant shoulders. I had to laugh--crying seemed counterproductive!

That's how all my family photos are!! And I'm only 5'4"! The women in my family are all between 4'9" and 5'...and tiny! I stand out like a sore thumb.
  • My bridesmaid dress arrived. It fit perfectly in the torso, which is a little unnerving because it wouldn't have fit me when I had ordered it! What if I got the dress and it didn't fit? It would've taken losing 20 pounds just to fit into it?? That's insane. The worst part is that the company made sure to make me tell them all my measurements, including height and weight, and a description of my proportions so they knew what my body shape was like, so that the dress would fit. And I assumed they'd tailor it a bit to fit me rather than just picking a size to throw at me when I was the one who read the chart and picked the size myself anyway. I don't really get it.
Anyway, the torso fit well, but it's a good six inches too long! Even with 2" heels (I don't go any higher than that) it was still wayyyy too long.
Not only that, but the bust is HUGE. Seriously, I'd have to be a DD to fit into it! I hope the alterations can be done without screwing it up too much. I'm nervous about it because the neckline is a nice shape and I don't want to lose it through alterations.

    That's the latest from here!
  • Ugh, I've been there. It was awhile ago, but right after I'd gained the majority of my weight. I was ONLY 190 (I'd kill to be that low right now), but at the time I felt miserable. I was a senior in college and 3 times the size as any other bridesmaid. I luckily had a very understanding friend who chose a dress that fit all body types (no strapless). But as a broke college girl I had to hear, in front of all the skinny girls, that my dress would cost like $50 more! I was so embarrassed. But my friend's (the bride) mother who offered to pay for half the dress since she chose a more expensive one, also paid for the extra on mine. In the end I survived what I didn't know at the time was one of many embarrassing situations having a direct relation to my weight. But I survived and lived on to gain another 40 pounds.

    Good Luck on your goal!
