Anyone else really cold?

  • I guess it is part of the process, but ever since I started trying to lose weight I have been freezing cold!!!
  • All the time, especially now that it is winter. I have had to ask my landlord 4 times to turn up the heat! I can't tell if maybe she turns it up for a day and then turns it all the way back down but its freezing in my place all the time! Of course, my space heater zonked out 2 weeks ago also wouldn't ya know it?!

    I don't know if this is true but I tell myself it has something to do with the fact that I don't have as much blubber on my body to insulate myself from the cold lol
  • Yes. I used to be a furnace, warm all the time, and from my house to my car, from my car to the parking lot, from the lot to the office I would never wear a coat unless it was less than 30 degrees. I might bring it with me, but I'd never wear it. This summer, I started getting cold!! In summer! I looked it up and one site stated that if you're cold during weight loss you need to eat a little more to warm your body up. I took that advice. Also, a sure fire way to warm up when I'm home is to vacuum!!!! That is like a mini work out. Wear slippers and a sweater, make a cup of tea, and have a little something to eat if you don't warm up.
  • Constantly. Not just in the winter. In the summer too..It usually hits 90-100 where I live and I find that even in those high temp's, I don't get hot or sweat. Guess thats the plus side...But as i'm currently writting this, its 72 degrees in the house, and i'm still bundled up under a blanket. I find drinking hot tea helps
  • ALL. THE. TIME.

    I used to be hot all the time. I hated summer. Now I'm freezing and drinking tea all the time which freaks people out because I always hated hot drinks.

  • I have always been chilly.. even when I was 200+ pounds... now I'm FREEZING! -.-. I wear layers and sweaters and drink hot tea and that helps.. Wearing socks really helps as well. Nice comfy fleece socks!
  • Still got a ways to go, but I'm a heck of a lot colder than I used to be! My husband thinks it's funny, because he's one of those people that can wear shorts in negative temperatures. It's really annoying though--even with a sweatshirt and socks and blankets and space heaters, I'm still freezing
  • I used to be hot at all times, even in the dead of winter. Now I notice that my hands and feet are really cold. I live in Northern California so it's not really cold here compared to other places but I still complain about the cold and notice it more then I used to.

    I used to be made fun of for always having the coldest room in the house. Even in the middle of winter I would turn on the air condition and complain that my bed was simply too hot and I couldn't sleep.

    Now? I'm the first one to bundle up, my fingers and toes are always cold (I heard it could be a hypothyroidism thing? Not sure) and I haven't turned on the air condition since October. It shocked my family quite a bit!
  • Yes, I have that problem. I think your metabolism slows and that's just one of the side effects. Or so I've heard. Bundle up!
  • My temperature dropped when I started dieting, clearly observable in my morning temperature readings (I do FAM charting), but it cleared up easily when I started taking a couple of 500mg capsules of ginger every day. It's a good circulatory stimulant, I recommend it strongly.
  • I've been a freeze baby ever since losing the weight... I use a space heater even during part of the summer and still wear hoodies when it's in the 70's. The only time I go out in a t-shirt is when it tops 80 degrees...

    I'm contemplating moving south!
  • Yep. Frozen half to death, all the time. I used to be one of those people who never got cold...half the time I didn't have to turn any heat on during the winter, I was so overheated. Now, though....ohhhh boy. I have had to learn the fine art of layering. *L*

    It makes sense, I guess...body fat does act as insulation of sorts, so when you lose fat, you lose "insulation", ergo you get colder more easily. It sucks, but I'll take being cold over being unhealthily overweight any day!
  • Yes, lots of people find they feel colder when they lose weight and eat healthier -- myself included, and I used to be hot, hot, hot all the time. I still get hot in the middle of the night though, and have to throw my blankets off (onto my DH, but he doesn't mind too-too much ).

    SOLUTIONS: I put on loose, fuzzy socks and a sweater (esp my fleece ones; very warm) to start. Running warm water over my hands helps, as does exercise like someone else mentioned earlier -- yes, vacuuming, sweeping, or other household chores will do the trick too. I am an avid tea totaller as well; warms up the hands and your insides at the same time ...
  • Oh yes, I am always freezing these days. Between my Reynaud's and the inherent heat issues of restricting caloric intake, I am chilly even in summer! It's the nature of the beast but it can get better with maintenance, as opposed to active weight loss.
