I know I know, you shouldn't be drinking when you're on a weight loss plan. But sometimes a glass of refreshing white wine just tastes really good.
And so that was my story last night. My partner prepared dinner for us and he served it with a nice cold glass of chardonnay.
It was hard to stop at just one let me tell you. I would have liked to have had the whole bottle! But alas I restrained myself and only had the one.
This is one of the things that I don't like about losing weight. I like to have a few cold ones on the weekend, but the calories are just too much. Quite frankly I would rather eat food instead of drink my calories.
Has anyone been able to maintain consistent weight loss and continue to drink in moderation?
Usually I'll just cut back on my daily calories of food that day if I want to have an extra drink. I'm a beer person, so it makes it hard if I want to drink anything other than light beer. It has taught me to savor what I drink instead of mindlessly chugging it, though!
Oh yeah, I still make room on the weekends!! But, I've also slowed it way way down.
Mind you, I'm sure my weight loss would be going a lot smoother if I were to cut it out all together, but since this is a lifestyle change, I know I can't go the rest of my life without a little indulgence every now and again.

Who says? If you can fit it into your plan, there is no "shouldn't" about it.

Yes. But like you said, it's a question of whether it's worth the calories. You did great to stop yourself at one glass. If you can do that, there's really no reason you can't work a glass of wine into your plan now and again.
I prefer martinis to wine, and they are pretty darn calorie dense, so I think carefully before I decide to drink one, and often I decide it's just not worth it.
However, I follow a calorie-cycling plan, and I tend to arrange my days so that my high-calorie day is the day I am most likely to think about drinking a martini. So every couple of weeks or so I find room for one.
I have cut way way down on what I drink.. also I only drink on special occasions and yes, I also had to change what I thought was a special occasion! LoL - watching a hockey game on tv no longer affords me a few beers
I stay away form the mixed drinks since the mixes add a lot of calories. I also stick to light beer and wine, but I'm more aware of the calories they contain now and I also try to fit them in.
My weight went up when I was drinking more but it's unfair to say it was just the booze as I really didn't eat well. I think it can be done but with the points mentioned above... everything in moderation right? If you like to drink (sounds like you do... me too!) then let yourself have something now and then. Reward yourself Good job at stopping at one glass.. it was Canadian Thanksgiving up here this weekend and I wish I could say I did that
Have you tried Skinny Girl Margaritas? They are strong, but low in calories! LOVE THEM, especially when I have friend's over I can still get a good buzz while still sticking to plan!
ETA: It's 110 cals and 4g of sugar in 4 ounces (that's 4 shots!)
I have 2 glasses of red wine a day (before my diet, I would have a bottle, over several hours). And no, I am not alcoholic... just European
Those 300 calories, combined with ~150 from my nonfat lattes, make up almost half of my daily calorie allowance, and that's just fine with me. As long as it fits within your diet, I think it is fine. Especially since - a diet is something life changing that you do for a long time, so while you need to limit yourself, you should never cut something out that you cannot live without. Like me and my wine . Glad that there are others out there who appreciate it !!
I can't seem to figure out how to fit alcohol into my calorie plan. If I drink 200 calories of beer, I get super hungry that night and the next day.
I haven't been tipsy in a LONG time.
I decided to allow a glass for super special occasions. Maybe when I hit maintenance, I could use the few extra calories for alcohol.... but in the losing phase, I need those calories in food form.
I definitely need my wine!! I fit wine or vodka in about three times a week. 3 ounces of vodka is only 200 hundred cals, so 6 ounces makes 4 drinks for only 400 calories. I have a couple higher cal days a week (1700-1800) and these are the days I'll drink. On a weekend I usually have a whole bottle of wine one night, which is about 600 calories. I'm also not a fool enough to not factor in snacks which I will want after drinking lol! I usually will eat about 800 calories during the day on a Saturday which leaves room for a bottle and 300 calories worth of snacks (usually a 100 calorie popcorn pack and sunflower seeds). That would add up to 1700 calories for that day, which isn't too bad considering the whole bottle of wine!!
A few drinks now and then can totally fit into a weight loss plan, you just have to plan for it!
I'm another one who allows for alcohol in my daily life.
I'm calorie counting, so I try and save some calories from elsewhere to allow me to have a bit of a drink later that evening or use some of my calories from exercise at a push. I tend to stick to wine (small glasses) or beer (not light though) and have been known to make a pint last an hour and a half.
There are some nights where I'd rather drink some of my calories and some nights where the food is too yummy and I'm happy drinking water to indulge in the food.
I have to say that I do tend to get tipsier quicker since I've changed my eating habits, so I don't need as many drinks as I used to!
Funny enough, I'M getting used to being the chick that drinks only Perrier at Happy Hour! I do miss alcohol to celebrate... but I think I will be able to fit in a botle of bubbly on New Year's Eve or another special moment...
I'm still not in a place where I can give up my alcohol, so congrats to you on stopping at one glass!
I go out a couple times a month to drink with friends. I try to stick to lower-cal drinks--vodka soda, mostly--but it's rough. Everyone's having a fun, drunken time and I often get sucked into the desire to have "just one more" or go for a midnight McDonald's run (!!!). I'm still managing to lose weight but I'm looking forward to the point when I can tell myself that getting healthy is more important than getting drunk.
I'm absolutely one who HATES to drink calories. I like soda and all, but the thought of using 150 cal (or however much is in a regular soda) on just a beverage is mortifying to me. Sure, my thirst will be quenched, but I'll still be hungry. It's 150 calories down the toilet (literally, lol). Even on my worst out of control binge days when I'm eating everything in sight, I can't get myself to drink a regular soda, lol.
Buuuut, I have drank alcohol all through my weight loss and maintenance. I'll either plan in a cocktail or a light beer (or two...or three) just like I would any other treat or food or I will indulge on my treat days. Days where I truly honestly just don't care what my calorie count looks like. Days like my wedding day or my birthday. I'm going to splurge on my birthday, and I don't care one way or another about it.
I don't drink as much as I used to. I was never a big drinker, but I'd have a beer or two a few times a week just because the beer was there and why not? Anymore, I've decided that's something I can definitely eliminate. But I do enjoy a (light) brewski on the weekend.
